Sony’s revealed the PlayStation Store’s most downloaded games of 2019, and there are few surprises when it comes to the biggest winners. Over in North America, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was the hottest title on the Japanese giant’s digital plaza, followed by Minecraft: PS4 Edition and NBA 2K19. In Europe, Grand Theft Auto V took the top spot, with FIFA 20 in second.
Days Gone was the most downloaded exclusive in North America, finishing in 10th position, while it didn’t make the Top 20 in Europe – in fact, no first-party titles did. Beat Saber was the best-selling PSVR game in both territories, but Blood & Truth took second position in Europe, where developer London Studio must be extremely satisfied with the response.
Fascinatingly, Fortnite absolutely dominated the DLC lists in both regions, with no other game even getting a look in. But surprisingly it wasn't the most downloaded free-to-play title, with Apex Legends taking that accolade on both sides of the pond. You can view all of the data for North America and Europe through the respective links. What did you grab from the PS Store last year? Let us know in the comments section below.

Blood and Truth was my game of the year. Anyone with PSVR that hasn’t bought it, do yourself a favour and buy it now. Simply amazing. Praying for a sequel.
Talkin D/L games there is a little isometric murder porn gem i found last night called Ruiner. Devolver Digital Published😁. Mechanics are DEEP and the geography is very well realized and more open than the deceiving corridors would have you believe. Any fan of Hotline Miami will dig it. Glad an Exclusive made the charts!!
i bought the same thing last year as i did in 2018, nothing. kinda surprising that days gone didn't make the top 20 in the european store, can only assume physical sales dominated for it.
@SoulChimera yes! Finished it last night and it's absolutely brilliant. Tongue in cheek, ott, pure action. The best thing about it is all the little things they didn't have to do, such as the exhibits in the gallery and the vaping. First time I pulled out a grenade pin with my teeth I felt like John McLane. Really hope it gets a sequel on ps5. I want to know what was going on with "that" agent!
I say as a European, Europe needs to get itself together: Not a single first party Sony game and a chart dominated by EA yearlies and smattering of Ubisoft and of course CoD.
By contrast America had Days Gone, God of War and Spider-Man, only one of which was released this year, but still. There is a little more nuance in their list.
I hope in 2020 we see some of that variety in these charts with TLoU2, FF7 Remake, Cyberpunk 2077 and others releasing.
More people played Don't Even Think than with Warframe. That's surprising.
People download games? Aside from DLC games are much cheaper bought from Amazon...plus hard copies can be collected or sold...no wonder it's mostly free games taking the top 😅
Love seeing The Forest on both lists and WWZ on NA’s both are some of my favorite games out.
Days Gone carved out a very nice audience for itself. Happy for that because I was really concerned about the possibility of it being the game to bury Bend Studio.
@Kienda The European list makes me ashamed to be European. Years and years of culture across all of Europe but bland taste in games.
It kinda proves that the bubble we all seem to live in on Sony centric platforms isn’t true. Exclusives aren’t the big draw that people say they are. I know people will down vote this but facts prove that the majority of playstation gamers don’t play the exclusives
What a surprise; Mostly garbage at the top.
@Stocksy I don't know who claims that exclusives are the draw. All I know is that most people would get a console for gaming and they'll mostly go for generic titles such as FIFA and CoD. - I mean, that should be a surprise to nobody. You have the shooting type crowd and the sports type crowd. - I bet the statistics would be extremely similar on the Xbox side, at least the same titles would pop up.
But the reason people are drawn to a specific console or platform is WHICH exclusives it has. Which in my personal case would be the PlayStation, obviously. In fact I only have it for exclusives, as I mainly use the PC. But then I'm also a very unusual individual, and I don't even touch the majority of the titles mentioned in this article.
@Kienda Peobably not. All the dumb European dudes around here will keep buying into FIFA and CoD. - I was talking to this 20-something year old recently and asked him about what he thinks of the state of franchises like FIFA, and he found it "pretty cool".
People have no clue and the dominant customer and players of videogames are the generation that grew up into thinking DLC, XP, lootboxes, card drops , player packs and microtransactions are the norm. So don't expect them to boost the sales of ART like "TLoU" and what not. The statistics will always be in favor of mindless shallow addictive content over meticulously crafted pieces of work with depth to them.
@Enigk I second that Europeans like too reward bad games somehow.
