Given the dramatic resurgence of the game, it’s hardly surprising to learn that The Witcher is on track to become Netflix’s most-watched Season One of all-time. The streaming juggernaut claims that 76 million households have now tuned in to at least two minutes of the adaptation, which may sound like a strange metric, but it’s evidence of an “intentional” viewing decision according to the organisation.
That’s an enormous number by the way: The Crown, which is massively popular and already on its third season, has hit 73 million households thus far. All of this means that, as previously reported, there’ll absolutely be a second series; assuming the show retains its current popularity, expect more after that as well.

From what I read, we have to wait until 2021 for Season 2.
I enjoyed it, but it sucks to have to wait so long!
Loved it.
Still got no interest in playing the game, though.
@GamingFan4Lyf Quality over quantity. Seems like Netflix took a page from CDPR's playbook.
@GamingFan4Lyf There is going to be an animated movie coming sometime this year so there's that at least.
It wasn't perfect but still on board. There so much untapped potential. I actually think season two will be much better.
Never played the game or read the books but really enjoyed the show.
Loved the game (still have the two expansions to play at some point) and absolutely loved the series.Shame we have to wait so long for another series but now I've gotten into the books too so those should keep me going for a while.
I wonder how many of that 76 million watched more than 2 minutes?
Netflix using 2 minutes to define performance metrics (something they just implemented that gained them a 35% “boost” in performance) is so Microsoft.
And since it’s Netflix, The Witcher will have an amazing season 2, then be cancelled.
For me it doesn't matter what metric there going off, the important is there bigging up the show which is great cos it'll hopefully mean that we'll get a lot more plus more of a budget to improve on the effects which was for me the only let down. Yeah the time jumping is a bit to get used to but it didn't seem to put off many people.
@lacerz The OA
If we have to wait until 2021 to watch season 2 I'll wait until 2021 to watch season 1. Too many shows I watch these days end a season with what looks like a mid-season mild cliffhanger. And unlike on tv when a season ends in May and comes back in September, so it's only a few months, these 10 months plus between "seasons" are ridiculous.
American Gods I just watched season 2 ep 1 last night, season 1 episode 8 the night before, and there's really nothing to make you think it was even different seasons, it just keeps going. "The Boys" on Amazon ended season 1, again after only 8 epsidoes, the same way. "carnival Row" at least seemed like a short season, w/ the ending setting up season 2, but who knows when season 2 will be on.
Season 1 of the Castelvania cartoon on Netflix was 4 short parts of 1 long movie. I dont' even consider that to be a "season", just a movie. Season 2 actually felt like a season of a show.
I'm not saying everything needs to be 22 epsidoes, but at least make a season feel like a season. And dont' make peoepl wait so long if it's only 8 episodes.
Season 3 of Westworld starts in 2 months but I've already moved on form that. Season 1 was epic, but 2 was lost. Season 3 just looks to be "Cyborgs in the City".
@frabbit yep, cancelled my Netflix when they cancelled OA, now I'll only bother to sign up to Netflix for one month twice a year, binge everything and be done, growth over art, it's not just entertainment, entertainment and story telling is an art, they should commit fully to a project and see it through, disgraceful
@SinisterPledge
For those of us who don’t know what you’re talking about, please explain.
@NorrinRadd This perhaps?

@NorrinRadd Others have answered your question now, and they are correct. Since the Witcher is based on Slavic folklore and has a European-inspired setting, it's quite strange to have people of colour running taking prominent roles. Sadly this isn't uncommon these days. I am of course against whitewashing as well but I imagine the SJW's of this site are already seeing red by now.
@JoeBlogs You must be fun to have discussions with.
@mini_piekarnik @frabbit
OA is one (especially with that ending). But Sense8, Mindhunter, Glow, Santa Clarita Diet...all the Marvel shows...are among the others.
@SinisterPledge The race of the characters literally means nothing. It doesn’t impact the show in the slightest and the actress who plays Yen is really quite good. Triss is a freckled redhead in the games and she’s black in the TV show so both versions of the character are ‘wrong’ if you’re going by the books. In any case, Slavic countries do have POC living in them and The Witcher is in a fantasy land so it’s a non-issue. Personally, I find the downright atrocious Scottish accents far worse than them daring to put POC in a show that came out in 2019. Grow up.
LOL! Does anyone know that women were never originally stage actors either? All the female roles were played by men. People then didn't seem to have the outrage people do now.
Honestly, if you are offended by a character in a show/movie/play being played by someone who doesn't precisely mirror the original source material YOU are the problem. The Witcher (like every story told since the dawn of time) is a story being told for a reason (whether that reason is to teach, send a message or purely for entertainment). If you don't understand the fundamental underpinnings of story telling, and you're focusing on the appearance of the players, you've missed the entirety of the purpose of the author's work. That's on YOU!
@SinisterPledge - do let us know if they've got the monsters' skin tones correct. We've got Strigas, Goblins, Griffins, etc. How about Trolls? I assume they should be thin-skinned and lily-white?
@JoeBlogs Missed opportunity to say "Let's dance!". I hear what you're saying about the means of travelling, but there isn't much to go on in terms of human ethnic diversity when looking at the books. The prejudice of the relevant societies are based around witches, the supernatural and the unholy, much like...you guessed it, medieval Europe. You also have the non-human races which essentially replaces the people of colour, but that wasn't enough apparently. You say our 21th century views on ethnicity aren't relevant to the world of the Witcher, yet the casting of these actresses as Triss and Yen is very much political, and if you don't think so then I don't know what to tell you.
While your argument is logical, it has little to no foundation to stand on when it comes to the Witcher setting. And if you insist, as a woke production company, to include PoC characters, why not make new ones? Evidently you don't seem to care about the source material all that much, so why not please both fans and casuals by adding black characters instead of changing pre-existing ones?
I also don't understand why quality actors and staying true to the source material has to be mutually exclusive? Surely you're not denying there are talented white women who could pull off Triss and Yen? You can have both.
Appreciate a proper reply though. If only you had started with that.
@NorrinRadd Don't see the relevance with that first bit, but feel free to elaborate.
Offended is a strong word. I just don't want to support it. You're very brave for taking a stance in this discussion though. I could really feel your passion. If you don't think having a consistent world with characters that fit into the narrative is important in storytelling then you are the one who lacks the understanding. I never said it had to precisely mirror the source material. That would be very hard. You can still try to stay true to it. The Witcher indeed tells a story and does so very well with the help of non-humans and witches. What purpose does PoC fill to enhance the story?
@nessisonett Yes, Slavic countries has PoC living in them -now-. That's true for all western countries. Ah, I forgot, it's the CURRENT YEAR (or last year to be precise). Silly me, I retract all my comments. I appreciate the life tip at the end there, although it is a bit lacking on the constructive side.
@deadfred77 What's the relevance of your point exactly? Humans aren't supernatural creatures of mythology and fantasy last time I checked. Think really hard about what your point is and please elaborate if you figure it out.
I'm kinda new to this site so I didn't really expect the mob mentality to be this strong here, but I have now learned my lesson, ResetEra.
Sweet! Can't wait for more witcher TV!
I thought all the Brokilon forest and dryads scenes were absolutely awful. The battle of Sodden Hill was utterly pants too. The rest of it was pretty enjoyable though. Cavill, Joey Batey and Anya Chalotra are fantastic.
@SinisterPledge sounds like thinly veiled racism from you, except without the thin veil.
@SinisterPledge Reacting as if they casted POC for Schindlers List. It's fantasy, it can be whatever it is, as long as it doesn't mess with the essence of the story, so chill out! Everybody enjoys to be represented in art and I think us white boys have had and still will have a good deal of that in any medium 😄
@JoeBlogs Yeah, truly a lot of varied opinions being expressed here. "You didn't have to post it and start all this". This is a scary mentally that I see more and more. Should I keep quiet because my opinion differs from the majority? That's a slippery road my dude, and leads to bubbles like these forming and increasing in size. Regardless, I called it for what it is - blackwashing. I'll leave it up to the individual if they find that term loaded, to me it's just a fact in this case. I appreciate your response above the last one though. Much better. I think we disagree on the importance of historical accuracy, or in the case of the Witcher, source material accuracy. If that doesn't bother you, great. My first post included me saying the news of these stellar ratings were good news to people who enjoyed the show. Hope you enjoy the second season.
@tameshiyaku Nah, Hollywood would never allow that. I'm reacting like there is blackwashing going on in the Witcher, which there is. I'm also perfectly chill, if anything I'm quite tired as I have to respond to 4+ people all deciding to circlejerk around me. There is plenty of representation these days so no worries on that front. As more and more POC starts writing and creating shows, the representation will increase, and hopefully you won't have to mess with other works to make up for a perceived deficit. That's all.
@quinnyboy58 Well this was just a matter of time wasn't it? I'd strongly urge you to start thinking for yourself instead of repeating stuff like a parrot to anyone with a different view. First lesson, look up the definition of "racism" and realize that the requirement to be a racist is far beyond what I have even remotely expressed here. Stop throwing the term around and diminish its meaning.
@nessisonett Dude you Know POC Aren't Allowed In Fantasy Of Any Kind You Can Have Wizards Vampires Orcs Elves Dragons and all Other Manner Of Things But POC is Where The Line Gets Drawn
@SinisterPledge why i dont agree with everything u have said, i dont really find what u said to be racist. I can see ur point when it comes to accuracy, i really like Idris Elba as a actor, but not roland, that was silly.
2 minutes isn't exactly a good metric to go on. But, I'm glad it's done well, I'm a huge fan of the books and video games (as well as the series thus far).
I'm sure this will pave the way for several more series.
@frabbit 😥Still hurts.
