Quickly following in the footsteps of Sony, Kojima Productions, and Facebook, publisher Electronic Arts has confirmed that it will no longer be attending GDC next month. Citing the coronavirus, EA will also limit its attendance at other events throughout the year.
In a statement issued to USgamer, the company said: "Having closely followed the global situation with Coronavirus and with the recent escalation of cases in new regions, we have decided to take additional steps to protect the wellbeing of our employees including the restriction of all non-essential travel. As a result we are also cancelling our official participation at GDC and limiting attendance to other events." EA wraps up by stating that it will continue to moniter the situation.
It's yet another blow to the Game Developers Conference due to take place midway through March, but perhaps most concerning for the wider gaming community is that the publisher will limit its attendance at other shows. While the health and wellbeing of its employees are, quite obviously, of the utmost importance, could this mean a lesser version of EA Play is on its way to E3 2020? We'll just have to wait and see.

So are (clever) people still saying it's all a ploy by Sony so they can justify cancelling because they have 'nothing to show'.?
@JJ2 Without a shadow of a doubt. Since Sony pulling out of mobile phone events then releasing three mobiles, rather than the expected one, in a private event didn't alter people's perception. As the saying goes, don't let facts get in the way of a good story.
@JJ2 Probably. Ive always tried to stick up for my hobby, but the entitlement and whining i've witnessed over the past couple of months has been embarrassing. Its great that people are excited, but the way people have behaved has been truly baffling.
Sony absolutely made the right call cancelling early, and if i was an employee id be grateful that they were putting the health and wellbeing of their staff first.
Now will the Media and people slag them off like they did with SONY when they pulled out? Er probably not It seems one rule for SONY(normally Negative) and another rule for everyone else(normally 'That is ok') on the internet.
I fully expect another eurogamer Boston mayor expose outlining how outraged he is at E.A. & Hideo Kojima are stereotyping & how the evil Sony corps are trying to sabotage GDC!
