Developer Team Ninja hasn't got a bad word to say at the moment. After impressing us once again at a Nioh 2 preview event ahead of the sequel's release next month, it has now been revealed that the original game is even more of a sales success than we thought. The series' official Twitter account announced overnight that Nioh has passed three million copies sold worldwide.
That's through a combination of digital sales and copies shipped to stores across the globe, building upon the studio's previous update from February 2019 where it reached the milestone of 2.5 million. It's welcome news for a thriving series on PlayStation 4, but its sequel is in great shape to top this record. "This is going to be a PS4 exclusive worthy of your attention" is how we signed off on our latest hands on piece with Nioh 2.
Are you one of those three million purchasers of Nioh? Are you excited about the sequel launching next month? Show us a Yokai skill in the comments below.

Does this include $0 sales for being free on playstation plus?
I have to say that itβs probably my favourite PS+ game. I was a bit on the fence about it beforehand but I thought it was brilliant, despite tapping out before the super duper secret final boss thingy because the tag team bosses were insanely difficult.
@Ziek1883 nope it's based on who bought it
Hey @LiamCroft while during ur hands on preview did u by any chance get a glimpse at the trophy list? im very curious about the platina?
@pimpjuice I did not. The Trophy list will probably pop up on Exophase in the coming weeks.
Glad to hear it's sold that many, especially considering it's a more niche and challenging game. Nioh is one of my favourite PS4 games and I'm so excited for the sequel!
Haven't played this, maybe I should look into it. Although, if it's one of those games that's insanely hard it will drive me crazy.
@777Reigns. Its hard but fun and fair.its not hard for me.been playing video games since 1981.i welcome the challenge.but play it make aure you get health potion from the start.and use your super moves on the bosses.and you can buy arrows.grenades.etc.word up son
So a souls like sells 3 mill while an RPG catered to Fallout Fans sells 2. I know the time frames are different but i cant help but wonder if gamepass didnt hurt Outer Worlds..
Well F***ing deserved! π
@777Reigns Two words, Sloth Talisman ππ
Wow he couldn't fit that many copies on his Ark.
I'm part of those sales and glad for the success of this amazing game
@Ziek1883 That wasn't free though. You PAID for the subscription so for the number of people that downloaded it, Team Ninja got a cut. It's amazing that in 2020 you still have people who believe something they paid for is free. It doesn't matter how hard you try to justify your definition of 'free', you exchanged money for a service that allowed you to play a game you can only play as long as you continue paying for said service. Without paying for the service, you didn't get it. After ending your service, you won't have it. You paid to play it.
@Nintyfan Hell, to get those "free" games it's behind two paywalls lol. Internet access, & PlayStation plus smh..
I wasn't a fan of the Ninja Gaiden series... So I didn't play this until recently. So glad that I did.
