You can taste the tension in every Tweet and forum post: PlayStation fans are tired of waiting for next-gen news. While we’d expected the PlayStation 5 to be fully revealed by now – as was the case with the PS4 seven years ago – Sony has said little about its upcoming console so far this year, showcasing its logo and little else. Of course, that similar-looking symbol did go on to become the most liked gaming image in Instagram history.
Nevertheless, with Microsoft opting to release fresh information about the Xbox One X, including a handful of nifty features like Smart Delivery, it’s left PlayStation faithfuls feeling frustrated.
The issue’s compounded by the Japanese giant’s decision to pull out of conventions like E3, although it’s certainly not alone in that department. And while it’s unfortunate, its planned attendance at consumer-centric shows such as PAX have been paused due to the coronavirus. Sony was never going to show the PS5 at the fan event in Boston this week, but some think the organisation is shying away from the spotlight because there are issues with its console behind closed doors.
We reckon that’s unlikely, and while it is frustrating being forced to wait for further information, we suspect all will be forgiven once Sony eventually breaks its silence. The reality is that the PS5 is not scheduled to release until the end of the year, and you’ll naturally know all about it at some point prior to its launch window. In the meantime, there are some huge PS4 exclusives on the way, like Final Fantasy VII Remake and The Last of Us: Part II. We’re sure they’ll keep you occupied.

That's what i'm saying there still games to release, and sony is going to market these games heavily when they are close to launch, maybe after the last of us 2 they will talk about ps5 or after ghost of tsushima.
Making a new console is not a short term endeavor, it's about the next five years so things have to be right. Right now we're all like a bunch of Catholics waiting for smoke to come out of a chimney, but once Sony are ready the silence will be quickly forgotten about.
@adamnovice, you are right, i mean Microsoft is talking about series x because they are desperate to begin the next gen. Sony will show everything when the time comes, patience is a virtue.
relex ppl, its the calm b4 the storm!!!
@Lobbo95 Like I said in another article, MS have to make a lot of noise because they need to impress a lot more. Sony are in a position right now where they can afford to play the long game.
Don't care and don't need PS5 details now. The console is still 8 months away and there is a lot of great PS4 content still to come. The PS5 will be fine, and comparable to the new Xbox, most likely. Getting worked up about not having the details yet is silly.
I think people need to realize twitter does not speak for the majority of playstation users ffs.
This is pathetic and not representative of most ps gamers. Of course we want info, but we aren't crying for it. Most of us are adults and not entitled children who aren't threatened because another company released info that majority has already been confirmed.
Twitter is full of twits.
@adamnovice, i agree with what you say.
These ones clearly don’t have anything better to do. It’s probably better just ignoring them.
Sony take your time. Playa.i can wait.why dont them people finish theyre backlog of games.i just bought 6 new games and i still got 20 more ps4 games i didn't even play yet.go get yourself a girlfriend .have fun.watch movies.tv shows.some. so call fans are bugging out.word up son
I'm partially sure that Twitter post is partially a joke.
Even if Sony would reveal everything about the PS5 tomorrow we still have to wait until Q4 for the console to be released.
I know it helps get people hyped for the new console, but it'll be revealed in time.
Uuummmmmm speak for yourself lol im good.
I own all consoles but I'm kind of worried by the lack of hype and information regarding PS5. It reminds me of when Sega scrambled to improve the Saturn after hearing about PSone specs.
@playstation1995
Dude just hit the nail on the head! When they ready to talk, they talk. Just chill and do what you like! Even if they release news about it, it's still months away!
@__jamiie lack of hype? You mean the same lack of hype that after e3 2019 people wanted to talk more about the ps5 news that was released a few weeks prior?
Fans?you mean mean guy.
Sony already given specs n features weeks ago people need to chill
As long as they drop Bloodborne 2 I’m fine waiting for info because games >graphics in the long run.
Eh, I'm still happy with ps4, no ps5 news means I can play my backlog with no interruption, when ps5 comes, I buy it day one if I can, end of story.
Last of us part 2 ghost of toshima. And ps5 launch titles! Should keep everyone on the toes
I’m sure there will be some news about PS5 eventually. I’m in no hurry.
MS is talking but doesn’t give you any reason to be excited. I’ll wait for Sony to have a good reveal. MS isn’t even releasing next gen games until a year into the new gen, which means nothing to show off why the new console really better. Yeah, I’m happy to wait instead of repeating MS having the console reveal I’ve ever seen.
It’s a little annoying but calm down people.
Legend of Dragoon remake or part 2. 😃
And i have enough games too last me a year atleast on the PS4. 😆
I have a catalogue of PS4 games sitting in my library waiting to be played.
As exciting as PS5 is, I’m fairly content and don’t need a new console right away.
MS has good hardware it seems... Thing is PS4 games releasing this year are more interesting than anything that might be available for Series X up until exclusives for that system arrives. I think it's ok to buy an XSX if you play multi platform games, seems unlikely that Sony has better hardware in store for it's PS5, but it's almost a given that exclusives will be on Sony's side.
You people need to chill out.
Wow. Where does he get his information? Is this a real article?
I don’t know what people are complaining about.
We know that the PS5 is coming and when it is launching. Knowing how many teraflops won’t change much.
If we didn’t even have a release date, then yes, be anxious, but since we know roughly what we are getting and when we are getting it that should be enough.
Remember when the Wii U was dead in the water and Nintendo gave no signs at all of what it was planning? That was legitimately frustrating because we didn’t have any new games on Wii U and nothing to look forward to in the future until they dropped the Switch bomb which blew everyone away.
This is very different and the impatience of people these days is a bit concerning.
Grumpy rant over
Stop giving Twitter so much power! I swear there’s nothing good that comes from that idiotic forum. There’s always some self-important rube who thinks he/she makes decisions for everyone else.
PS5 news will come when Sony are good and ready but let's be honest here Sony's silence in general has been a thing for months and months now so it's nothing new.
Yea Coronavirus or not this pompous silence just plan annoying. I'm a huge Sony fan but MS is clearly winning my interest when it comes to next gen. The longer Sony stays silent the more ppl are gonna get pissed off and jump ship.
@Ken_Kaniff
I didnt know there was such a thing as a 'pompous silence' 🤔
Dont mind me I just think it's funny and not take things too seriously haha
Yes it's silly and Sony will reveal everything in time of course. Who cares about the timing. Oh yea, pushsquare likes 'pacing' in conferences and such. I forgot 😛
Tbh I think Sony will react and show or announce details in a wired type article soon or else just because why not. Maybe not a full event if they not ready for it.
@ApostateMage yeah, it’s a shame they didn’t call it Twatter!
Nintendo did the same thing once.
Announced NX in 2015, waited until less than 6 months before release to actually reveal the damn thing.
I for one as a PlayStation fan are patient
Just hope Sony are finalising the last bits of hardware pricing in the machine - probably the cooling system - so it can look like a stylish piece of tech, rather than a rubbish bin with an integrated ash tray on top...
I am totally okay with waiting.
I don't get it... Just wait.
I commented this in a thread regarding PS5 but thought it will be useful for this aswell.
My take on this whole situation.
Should we be surprised by Sony's lack of communication? Not really, Microsoft are only releasing this much this early as they want to make up for all the ground they lost last generation and are playing catch up because they know as soon as Sony reveal something, the people will go to them, so Microsoft are trying to entice customers as much as they can early on.
Another point is that this is probably the biggest year in the PS4's life cycle, with a sequel to one of the highest rated games of all time in TLOU2, one of the most hyped games of this generation with FF7 Remake being a timed exclusive, and with a new IP from one of Sony and gamings most cherished developers in Ghost Of Tsushima, this is a year to remember and celebrate for all fans Playstation, so why will they want to take hype away from that when they have all the cards and essentially the entire poker table in their hands.
Should we be worried then about the lack of communication? Of course not. Sony will reveal something within the next 2 months in my opinion via a State Of Play to show some of the specs, features or exclusives.
Only if we don't get anything by late April will I start to get worried.
@Ken_Kaniff That would be a really stupid move to base a decision on buying a new console which releases at the end of the year. I could understand if it was releasing next month, but, erm, it's not.
@DonJorginho, add in persona 5 royal, nioh 2, granblue fantasy versus, Marvel iron man vr, sakura wars, yakuza 7 like a dragon, babylons fall, this year will be awesome for ps4.
@Lobbo95 For sure, a lot of great games are coming!
Finally, an article about this.
@Knuckles-Fajita And it worked.
Nintendo didn't even have any games left for the last year of Wii U, barring BOTW of course, so in that case, Sony is in an even more favourable position, having just released Dreams, and with TLOU, FF7 and Ghost coming up, there's still some PS4 buzz left.
I'm not saying they should wait until after Ghost either, but whether they do it tomorrow or next month doesn't really matter.
What confuse me is that smart delivery is being seen as a new thing when things like cross-buy already exist. Even in Microsoft, isn't the Play Anywhere initiative the same?
The people and media really are hooked up in this HYPE thing. Must be a new recreational drug.
because people now a days expect everything given to them and have no patience
people need to RE-learn how to chill, news will come when it comes and when Sony are ready to announce it
To many people(Yep I was one of them) ASSUMED(like most people on the internet do) that SONY would do a PS4 like reveal etc etc but SONY 'NEVER' said they was going to do that did they??? Er NO
@NYJetsfan123. I know right.have fun go to a party.spend times with your friends family.your wife and girlfriend.watch a movie go to you tube watch videos.watch tv shows.play all your backlog.i got so many games that im playing now and i just bought that im happy about myself.so many stuff in life thats fun.word ☝ up son
nothing really new about MS's info, mostly confirmation of stuff they already said and smart delivery is just cross-buy by another name.
sony drip feed info and all you get is complaints about not saving stuff for a big event.. then there's no event and all it is is constant whineing about no new info. collectively the internet is a pretty dumb place. apart from first party launch games, i'd argue more is known about PS5 now than PS4 in feb 2013. there are could be a lot of valid reasons why the company has not or is not ready to share more details.. not least of which the impact the coronavirus might be having on manufacturing and software development plans.
Not me. In all honesty, I could easily wait another 2 or 3 years for PS5. I mean sure, I'll pre-order it as soon as I can, and I'll enjoy it immensely, but if it weren't to arrive for another few years, I'd be quite happy sticking with PS4.
For the first time ever, I've a feeling I'm going to be quite disappointed by the next generation, as - for me at least - the main focus seems to be on the thing least interesting and least likely to lead to better games... visuals.
As far as I am aware, there is around 9months before the console is expected to release. Just because the PS4 was revealed in Feb, doesn't mean that Sony has to stick to that schedule.
Just because MS have chosen to release more info doesn't mean Sony should too. Each has their own agenda, own timeline and plans. Does it matter what MS do for PS fans? If its not as 'high spec' as MS's console, will they jump ship? Some of the aspects, like Raytracing and VRS will likely be different from Sony anyway as MS are using their own - Direct X Raytracing and patented Variable Rate Shading. As for BC, we will have to wait and see what happens with Sony...
@leucocyte Smart Delivery isn't 'cross buy' by another name - its more than that. It does help with Cross Buy in that it installs only the assets for that system instead of all assets and taking up valuable space. But you can also just install a single Language pack too for example instead to save space. If you buy Halo for example, on XB1S it may install lower quality assets for HD quality and when you play on series X, it installs the higher quality assets rather than install both but that's a 'bonus' of it. Its more about just installing what is wanted/needed to save space. In Europe especially, Language packs take up a lot of space so being able to install just English (or French, German, Spanish etc) because that's ALL you need/want is what Smart Delivery offers to save space on your HDD - that's its primary function...
163 games in the backlog - I can wait.
Honestly, there's more important things right now to worry about than freaking PS5 or Xbox Series X or even a 'Switch Pro.' I'm just annoyed by the lack of any communication at all, it's been a complete shut down. There's cool PS4 games on the way that could be talked about, stuff like skipping E3 is utterly ridiculous, even Nintendo goes there in some form. With what's going on right now it's understandable not to want to go to conventions but there has to be a better way to communicate with the fanbase than what Sony is doing at the moment.
Between the lack of PS5 news killing fans and stuff like cancer and coronavirus killing people... hmmm, I wonder what's more problematic
Seriously, don't you guys have backlogs? Both on PS4 and elsewhere? In contexts like these, "patience wearing thin" is just a first world way of saying "I'm bored".
I think Sony will hold off with a reveal for as long as possible to whip people into a frenzy and then drop it like a bomb and everyone will go crazy for PS5, BOOM💥
@CmShepard Made an account just to say I agree.
@Shepherd_Tallon The games that are coming. Outside of this year and that generic looking Godfall, they have nothing announced to release past 2020.
I can count all of the times nagging worked in my favor on no fingers. 😭
Sorry but these so-called "fans" need to get a grip and learn patience, it's not like Sony /PS4 hasn't been giving them amazing games to keep them preoccupied. (unlike a certain other company)
PlayStation is a joke. Mine has been setting collecting dust for years, haven't played it since they quit making Uncharted games which is the only thing decent they got. Not interested in their other interactive movies and gothic wannabe games. Nintendo has much better games so no PS5 for me.
@Shepherd_Tallon Yea but launch titles are rarely ever good. Godfall is just a Destiny ripoff and unless you want to play a PS3 game remade from Bluepoint, then there's not anything that great at launch. I'll need to know what's coming past launch to justify a purchase.
Well then they better go pre-order the new xbox lol
All great things come to gamers that wait and people would be very sad when the PS5 comes out as playstation is far ahead of other consoles.
I would like to think Sony are smart enough to not react to a few bored souls on social media. Those toxic playgrounds rarely have anything of value to offer society, be it Twitter or whatever.
Sorry, but I could care less about PS5, I'm going to not get one until my PS4 dies, only if it's backwards compatible.
They release it when they release it. Who are we to demand info. We all probably have a ton of games in our backlog anyways.
I've had PlayStation's for over 25 years since the launch of the original console, ps1's, ps2's, ps3's and ps4's.. I still play my 4 daily and still have a huge backlog of games to platinum. I still have a huge backlog of games to buy! I'll be buying a ps5 at launch regardless of when it is. Do I need it now? No. Do I want it right now? Not really fussed as the 4 still has a lot to offer me. Do I understand how some "fans" are being so pathetic and ridiculous about there not being a reveal yet? No sir.
@Shepherd_Tallon I like Sony more for the new IPs. The sequels are fine but its games like Ghost of Tsuhima that get me excited. They take a chance on something new, and I'm with you on the Mario and Zelda thing that's why i own a Switch to. What's this Savage Starlight that you speak of btw?
@Shepherd_Tallon Oh okay I never caught that when I played through TLOU, but yea out of all these rumors the one about them doing a Sci fi game is the one I want to be the truth. That talented of a studio in that setting 🤯🤯
@Lobbo95 Sony had a big lineup in 2013 too on PS3 when the PS4 launched and it didn't stop them from talking about it. That's a terrible excuse.
I must say Spencer is doing a good job hyping up the PS5 reveal 😉
Edit
Quick ! Delete or edit the article!
One of PushSquare favourite Daniel Ahmad is doing the same idiotic State of Patience jokes. Haha
Must spin it in a good way now 😉
I severely dislike people who act like petulent children.
There is no suffering. This is a console announcement we're talking about, get some perspective.
It's almost like there are major releases coming out in the next few months and they don't want to take away from their spotlight
You sound like a real b**** right now f*** you mean whenever they show it we will be ready Xbox had to throw all they card's on the table we know exactly how this will end PlayStation will win once again
Language! - Quintumply
@HungryWolf have you never heard of a remaster say the last of us remaster in ps4 early on?
Did they give you cross buy there?
No and that's what Microsoft is trying to put an end to.
Titles aren't "remastered" they are just like pc game and scale to whatever level of power your system has at no cost to you (no remaster repackage).
This is all in preparation of xbox ending the "console generation" and and taking the pc approach where games always are supported by older hardware (up to a ever moving cut off) and as new hard is released the software runs at its "best" on that hardware.
Think how the Android or Apple ecosystem works where if you buy a game it runs and scales to play on a number of models but obviously today's titles don't run on an iPhone 3G.
People worried about Microsofts lack of the "exclusives" in the first year or 2 are missing the big picture here... Microsoft is changing how the console "game" is works entirely and if 30+ years of pc gaming have proven anything games can and so scale across multiple levels of hardware (and even when supporting super low end hardware) pc games still are the superior experiences when the settings are dialed up.
And the Xbox series x is planning to offer that same experience to console buyers now and in the future.
@Grimwood
What you're willing to accept as "fine" isn't the end all be all of experiences and much better experiences are and have been occurring on the pc side for a long time.
Microsoft is just trying it best to bring that "experience" to those who prefer consoles simplicity (without getting screwed with things like remaster releases during early new Gen).
I can tell yih as someone who has a 2080ti equipped pc going back to my ps4 pro to play God of War has gotten harder and harder as the low unstable fps just ends up making me feel sick.
There is a measurable / important benefit in moving even those like yourself forward you may not appreciate what you don't have now but you'll wonder how you ever accepted less once you have it.
@Carl-G Sony has released as much as Microsoft? Lmao
All they've shown is a logo and the fact it has a new gimmick in its Controller and ray traced /3d audio (which if you didn't catch Microsoft quietly announced they could do too, it was kinda small because it's not that important but Sony needs SOMETHING).
Microsoft is out ahead because they were behind yes but they are making Sony definitely look bad when Microsoft shows their model in all its glory and they premiere the... Logo?
I'm not saying Sony won't have lots of good stuff to talk about but they also know they are going to be weaker and they need to do their best to make that difference "seem" as small as possible.
@Cybrshrk Remember that initiatives like Smart delivery and Cross-buy are opt-in for publishers. Neither Microsoft or Sony can force publisher to use this initiatives (I think!).
What you say about The Last of Us, can be said for GTA V. It didn't happen because the publishers didn't want to.
@Lobbo95 Microsoft is talking about the next console because they already have won. They also have not actually talked much about it either. Sony is trying to play catch-up. They have sat on their butts the last five years doing nothing and expecting people to just follow them like sheep.
Final Fantasy VII Remake? - clearly the current trend for milking past successes rather than generating new ones is far from over.
