Update: PS4 firmware update 7.50 is very much real, and invites are being sent out around the world. As previously reported, the correspondence from Sony confirms that there are no “major consumer-facing features during the beta period”. However, this doesn’t rule out the possibility of additions in the final release. The email also mentions “quality-of-life and performance fixes”.
Original Article: The PlayStation 4's next firmware update is reportedly on its way. PlayStation is apparently sending out update 7.50 beta invites via email in Japan, as noted by Twitter users @dolly_silent and @HI_Ricky. However, it's probably not worth getting too excited just yet.
The emails themselves mention that there are no new features included in this beta test -- it simply improves system stability. This doesn't necessarily mean that the final firmware 7.50 update will be the same, but we suggest keeping your expectations in check. Hopefully we learn more about 7.50 in the near future.
In the meantime, are there any additional features you'd still like to see on PS4? Give us your best ideas in the comments section below.

I'm looking forward to this more than Cyberpunk 2077.
I'm sure this news will be well received on twitter. 🤣
I think the "where's the Direct" peeps and the "where's the PS5" peeps are trying to loudly out meme each other on social media.
I want to copy music, images and videos to the USB. I also want to download from the internet.
@scottdevine48 "I want to copy music, images and videos to the USB".
Don't know about music but you can already do the other two.
Stealth PS5 reveal? 😁
I gotta admit that the last 24hr blowup from Xbox has got me considering returning for next gen and waiting on any PS5 news is getting more difficult.
Sony will really need to do something big to convince me to stay on PlayStation, and that's saying a lot because I've always favoured it deep down in my heart since the original.
They don't necessarily need to be more powerful, but if they miraculously, albeit unlikely, announce full backwards compatibility all the way back to PS1, for me that would be game, set, and match for staying power.
I know this will sound a bit crazy...but i think PS4 needs more stability patches.
what is the point in beta testing if it dosn't really do anything?
🤷♂️
@OscarHTX all at once instead of having to do it individually.
Would love to be able to access the videos I clip on my PlayStation on my phone remotely
can we get fricking button in the options to scan all games for updates? I am tired to trying to play a game just to find out it has a new update that I need to download. It's been so many years and we still have no feature to quick scan games for updates.
@Matroska I want all.
Things I'd like to see that PS4 Could Use/Needs -
Custom Capture Folders: To title/organize captured videos/pictures for sorting/editing/uploading.
Quick Search: Hold a button to scroll through menus at a faster speed, or at higher intervals.
Trophy Sorting Options by Game:
•% Completed/Progress
•Rarity
•Platinum Acquired
•Platform [PS4, Vita, PS3]
•Difficulty
•Etc. (View psntrophyleaders.com or psnprofiles.com for more examples. We should be able to do this from our consoles).
Fix Share Play, as it doesn't work for many players anymore.
Update the speed of navigating the PS Store, improve video quality of game previews, & fix loading for preview images that don't load.
Update the Internet Browser (YouTube support is ending soon).
Allow YouTube hyperlink sharing again.
Allow link sharing from the YouTube app.
Play/stream videos [plug-ins] within messages.
Share animated gifs in messages.
Add Video Chat.
Update livestream comments section interface and make it customizable (theme, background image, color scheme, text color, etc).
Individual Accessibility Options for Home Screen & Game: Custom Button Assignments: PS4 Menu/System [Off/On] In-Game [Off/On]
I will love it if you could put you own themes on the ps4 like the ps3 days! And be able to change controller layout!
@Ridwaano You can change controller layout in Settings > Accessibility > Button Assignments.
You can use any screenshot as a background, but I agree, this was better on PS3, as you could also change the icons.
Ah yes... The "Make everything feel a little inferior so you think the next console is super awesome in comparison" update.
Option to scan all games for updates & an option to change the colour of the lightbar
Multiple custom controller mapping saves instead of just one.
Update browser for improved use and also to keep YouTube.
@GADG3Tx87 What has Xbox announced that's got you converting? A little less radio silence? You say you've always been on PlayStation, which I'm assuming mean you rather like their exclusives. So what gives?
@GADG3Tx87
What I like in Sony reveal approach and hardly anyone mentions is each time they show something real to the journalist. Even hands on like with the DS5 new features.
All in all though, I think most people already know what they want haha
@GADG3Tx87
Actually I'm not interested in BC beyond ps4 and I thought it would be safer for people interested to go with xbox which are BC champion so to speak. However the latest xbox details hint that PS patent to upgrade old generation games may be possible after all. It's a possibility Sony does the same stuff yea.
@Jaz007
True they haven't yet shown any games beyond Halo Infinite which is interesting but I think it's their confidence that is making me feel that way. I have always like PlayStation's exclusives but the new management ideology of porting them has me worried for the future too. Some people think it doesn't matter but a big appeal to a console is games I can't get elsewhere, it's why I still buy Nintendo consoles.
@JJ2
Normally I would agree that BC is one of the least of my concerns but for some very odd reason I've been yearning to play some of my older classics the older I get and I no longer have the old consoles so this would be a big deal to me to have them all in one place with my current mindset. I also think that a lot of people might consider five generations in one box would be a good reason to choose one over the other.
I just feel like Sony's silence is a bit concerning, I hope when they do announce something it can put my mind at ease. In my older age I wouldn't have the time for three consoles (I have a Switch) so it would be one of the other.
@GADG3Tx87
I mostly agree but the 'silence' is not concerning at all. I'm not influenced with marketting strategies.
I'm also an old fart and precisely dont want waste my time with very old games. I like new stuff. Would have been blown away years ago to know what's possible now Haha.
@GADG3Tx87
At the moment I'm very interested in Outriders. Looking for nice TPS with tons of weapons and stuff. I'm keeping an eye on it.
Theres a nice setting and story if you interested.

hopefully we can get to firmware update 8.0 berfore the ps5 arrive.
The latest update crashes my ps4 whenever I return from rest mode.
Here's hoping this update will fix the issue.
1. turn off recording permanently
2. custom sorting of icons/foldes
3. update of web video codexes
4. custom background for ANY theme
Quality of Life eh?
What I'd like is for the tea to stay hotter for longer in the mug.
Damn it, if my PS4 was any more stable it'd be in a Tory manifesto.
As @SZRT_CIC_Ice pointed out the ability to sort trophies, particularly by platinum or percentage would be very welcome. And to sort games in folders alphabetically automatically. A few times now I'd had to completely erase my 8TB due to corruption and sorting nearly 200 games by alphabet takes a while manually.
I usually sort folders by [Disc Games] [Digital Games] and [PS Plus Games].
Just got my beta code, interested to see what the QOL improvements will be.
Good . My PS4 Pro has been crashing alot lately.
@Shigurui Please remind me if "quality of life" means that remote play on mobile isn't laggy as hell. ☺️
Just got my invite to enter the beta
@GADG3Tx87 Xbox has no true exclusives in that sense though. They’ve said upfront that all Xbox titles will be on PC. The difference now is that PS looks at the least keep its exclusives much longer only on console (if not forever) and exclusives such as Persona will still show up on PS because they’re publishers don’t see it as worth it port them elsewhere. If that’s your concern you should probably go PC if you’re not sticking with PS.
@OscarHTX Just run "rebuild database" and it will update all the games and apps straight away.
I would like to see some new features in SHAREfactory. And removing or increasing capacity on some restrictions like added tracks to the video, merging them, fading in/out etc.
@SZRT_CIC_Ice Why is it that when a new system is incoming a feature is then starting to either 1) not work as intended or 2) not work at all as in share play.
I reckon by year 2 of PS5 lots of PS4 features will have been shutdown like share play
@Nakatomi_Uk an accurate, detailed explanation is difficult without dipping into implications of "planned obselescence" but the short-ish answer (which will inevitably delve into that anyway) is--and this goes for most companies that provide a product that gets new versions at certain intervals--they want you to buy their new product, and they want to give you less reasons to refuse to upgrade. They simply don't want your current console to run like a well-oiled machine forever, they want it to be less efficient, run louder and hotter, be more prone to crashes, and take longer to do things so you'll find the new one more appealing and give them money for it (game updates having to "copy" benefits no one but Sony in the long-term, it doesn't make updates "faster" "smoother" or "take less space" as they claim, extensive testing has flat out debunked this). Less that "nothing lasts forever" and more that they're designed to specifically not last (we get new consoles every 4 to 5 years, and that's exactly how long most of the tech in your console is designed to last, mostly irrespective of user error and proper maintenance) There are already long-standing PS4 core features that are being/have been/will be abandoned and/or shut down (i.e. Facebook integration, browser support of youtube and other streaming sites). It's all about money in the end.
Wishlist in PSN store visible to friends and the ability to buy PSN digital copies for people on my friends list. I would so buy a few copies of a game so my buddies could join me. This is about the only reason I like Steam.
I'd say that - while not impossible - it's highly unlikely that there will be any major features added to PS4 at this stage in its life cycle.
I got an invitation, but I didn't download it. Not sure I care, unless I hear otherwise.
Stability is cool and all, but I wish they would just make the main menu faster. It's gotten so slow over the years. A mountain is pretty stable, but not very fast.
Better remote play
Oh really ? Hmmm... Oh boy.
@Bamila Settings>system>automatic downloads>update files for applications
This feature keeps all your games and apps updated by checking for an update every time the system boots.

Let me delete my 1/2% games from the trophy list.
@Smackumz Wishlist for in the PS store on the PS4.
@Beekeeper Clean it and change the thermal paste. Backup your Playstaition and do a clean install.
@Flaming_Kaiser it's a forgotten feature only accessable through the website and is only visible to the logged in user. PSN needs to expand on this feature and bring it to the console itself.
@Smackumz I totally agree with you and i hate going on the PC and the mobile site is horrible.
😆 👍
@cph_94 it's been up since for forever. It doesn't update every game. I constantly find myself having to update manually, because this feature only updates the most recent games that I have played. I have 5.5TB of games installed atm, which is around 200 games.
@Flaming_Kaiser what are you talking about?
@Beekeeper I made a reply towards your rant. 😆
I think its nonsense new components get released. Older components get some wear and tear.
Is there an app just like the Xbox app, where all our images and clips could be saved in 4K if possible, or to get the best quality just access the PS4 via USB??
@Rick_Deckard If you screen grab from a PS4 Pro (even in Supersampled mode) it will save the screen shot in 4K. Not tried the video clip.
I'm not holding my breath for any amazing features.
What we want:- PS1/2 disc-based emulator, ability to rip music CDs, etc.
What we'll get: performance & stability fixes.
@sanderson72 Thanks!
