The turbulent production of Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog movie is well documented. The titular creature had to be completely redesigned after the reaction to the debut trailer, which pushed the film back to 14th February 2020. Of course, the movie is almost upon us now, and the fresh faced Sonic is looking much better, but what has this hiccup meant for merchandise?
Visiting Amazon seems to prove that the changes to Sonic's look came a little too late for the people making toys related to the film. There's some pretty odd merch available for purchase. For example, this Baby Sonic plushie looks closer to his original look than his revised one:
And here's another toy in which Sonic isn't looking too hot. This one allows you to launch the blue blur at high speeds using a ripcord, but just look at the poor creature.
Less strange are two books based on the movie. One is a novelisation, while the other is a Mad Libs book. We said less strange, not completely normal. That godforsaken halloween mask is still up for grabs too, by the way.

That toy looks like the design was approved and manufactured before the movie studio updated Sonic's model.
"The Official Movie Novelization"
Wow.
Reminds me of the ice cream Sonic face, So bad it's good
Pretty sure this is what you call "Art"...
I wonder if any parents would end up buying these toys for their kids?
Lol, I’ll pass on that. But I will check out the movie... eventually.
@GamingFan4Lyf definitely just look at Sonic's shoes in that second one, he doesn't have those ones anymore
The launcher toy looks like it could move very quickly.
When you throw it out the car window on the way home from Toys r Us.
I love it. Everything about this movie is so amazing
Thanks. I hate it.
That Sonic plushie looks so depressed. It's a strange look for a super energetic hedgehog.
That plushie looks a prize you'd win in a grabber machine from an arcade that smells of bifters in Rhyl.
Not a fan of the new Sonic his face just does not look right in anyway.
