Last year's Resident Evil 2 made knife-only runs all but impossible for speedrunners by adding a durability meter to the weapon, meaning they'd break after a handful of slashes. That won't be the case in Resident Evil 3 next month, however, proving once again that Capcom's second remake in as many years is really laying into its focus on the action. Jill Valentine will always have a knife in her inventory, meaning you could conceivably complete the game without the use of a single bullet.
While completion of the very specific playthrough will be reserved for the best of the best, Resident Evil 3 will bring back one of the franchise's toughest challenges. Speaking with Game Informer, producer Peter Fabiano said that the knife can be used at all times without breaking. "We're dealing with survival horror and everything is exhaustible. You run out of bullets. You run out of herbs. You run out of all the items you can use. So if you did run out of everything, what would you have? The knife. The director always wanted to make it so that you at least have your trusty knife. That’s always something you can rely on."
We imagine the vast majority of us will make use of Jill's full arsenal throughout our first couple of playthroughs, but this could be an interesting attempt at crossing the finish line once you've mastered the game. Have you ever tried a knife-only run in a Resident Evil game before? Sharpen your blade in the comments below.

Based on my performance with it during the demo, the knife wont be with me for long.
For those interested, the trophy list leaked yesterday. You can Find it easy on Google.
beware of spoilers if that matters to you.
I played the demo numerous times to try to master the dodging. I used the knife a lot too but only on zombies pretending to be even more dead after I'd peeled their caps back.
Can't wait for the knife only speedruns after the game is released.
Picture looks a lot like Natalie Portman.
I thought everyone in video games was supposed to look like Ellen Page?
Though in retrospect I suppose they do kind of look similar.
@JoeBlogs I'm ashamed to admit I've never seen SWF.
That pic is Natalie Portman though.
I was really excited for this game, but the latest leaks show a ton of cut content and apparently it's only 5.5 hours.
I'm gonna get FF7 Remake and wait for this to go on sale.
@DonJorginho All REs are short when you know where to go. Me and my friend used to do RE2 in about 1h50m. Though to do everything in just the REmake 3 demo takes 2 hours according to howlongtobeat.com, so I doubt 100%ing the entire game will only take 3 hours more.
All games have tons of cut content too. Look at all this stuff cut from OoT (there are loads of subpages too): https://tcrf.net/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Ocarina_of_Time
There's this massive series of 12 articles on all the cut stuff in FFVII: https://thelifestream.net/ffvii-the-original/final-fantasy-vii-the-unused-text-series/
Knife only runs are not all but impossible. Resi 2 has an unbreakable knife.
@DonJorginho RE2 could be complete in under 2 hours but there was a lot replayability. Plus it was a hoot to play. I must say, I'm looking forward to this much more than FFVII.
@ApostateMage i know people like FF but imo Re3 looks way better. cant wait for april 3rd.
@Shigurui Yeah this is a very misleading article. For anyone that doesn't know, in order to get the unbreakable knife you need to destroy all raccoon dolls in the game.
@taylorsparks294 - Misleading is one way of putting it. Flat out wrong is another.
@Shigurui Absolutely!
@taylorsparks294 - To be fair this isn't the only place I've seen wrongfully claim knife only runs aren't a thing in Resi 2. I guess the author(s) are casual Resi players and might not know. Still, a bit of due diligence goes a long way.
@JoeBlogs The only assassin I need.
Funny "6 degrees of Kevin Bacon" that:
I'd never heard of "Assassin" but I did know it as "Point of No Return", which I also never saw b/c I saw Luc Besson's La Femme Nikita" (also the La Femme Nikita TV show in the 90's, not to be confused w/ "Nikita" a decade ago) and Luc Besson also did The Professional w/ NP.
So NP and BF may actually be the same actress. Also Mary Stuart Masterson, who in '87 "Some Kind of Wonderful" played Eric Stoltz tomboy best friend w/ the secret crush who gets him in the end, and then Eric Stoltz was w/ BF in 93 "Bodies Rest & Motion" who kinda looked like MSM character Watts in SKoW. Stoltz & BF dated all through the 90's. Which was also the decade I watched way to many weird indie & foreign movies, b/c I was in grad school and that's what grad school students did.
NP has always been my girl though.
