Original Story: Maid of Sker is an upcoming PlayStation 4 survival horror inspired by Welsh folklore. It’s been penned by some of the people behind Don’t Knock Twice and SOMA, so there’s pedigree behind the package.
“[The game] draws players back to 1898 to adventure through the notoriously macabre Hotel Sker,” the press release reveals. “With multiple ways for your stay at Hotel Sker to come to an end, use your time wisely as you navigate the halls and grounds employing no-weapon survival tactics, and relying on your ability to keep quiet to stay breathing.”
The plot revolves around a classic folk tale involving a tragic individual named Elizabeth Williams, who lost her life after her father locked her up. Singer Tia Kalmaru is “lending her voice to the game to recreate Welsh hymns in theme with Maid of Sker’s terrifying tone”, and you can get your first taste of that in the trailer embedded above.

Oof, the Welsh better get on here to defend themselves, usually it’s us Scots on the receiving end 😂😂
i never got why the british are so "condesending" towards the welsh.
ofcourse i'm not from the UK so i can't put my take on it fully but i was just wondering.
That opening to the article haha
Given the time we're living in, I'd say Welsh people spitting on you is scarier than anything in this game.
@jdv95 You heard the Welsh speak? 😉
@AdamNovice is it supposed to be a different language?
i thought it was just a different and perhaps a bit weird accent.
but from the vids i just looked at it sounds like a different language.
Wow steady on push square! Welsh man here!
@jdv95 The thing about the Welsh language is it's a language that never caught on. Not many Welsh people actually speak the native language.
@jdv95 Yeah, Welsh is a proper language, same as Gaelic (both flavours) and Cornish. Although, I probably wouldn’t call Old Scots a language since we pretty much speak it as a dialect, albeit watered down. I could muddle my way through comics like Oor Wullie without having to look anything up but if it was in pure Gaelic, I wouldn’t have a chance, despite having a Gaelic name.
@AdamNovice I dunno, they’re really trying to keep the Welsh language alive, teaching it in schools and stuff. It’s hard trying to keep your national identity intact given how the UK works to be fair.
As an Englishman who spent the past 6 years living in Wales, i cant speak high enough about the Welsh. Lovely and welcoming people and i miss living there every day. And the welsh accent is amazing. Anyone who disagrees, go play No No Kuni and tell me that Mr Drippy isnt the best character ever
I love a bit of welsh.
Lamb. I forgot to say lamb.
@ApostateMage
Is that when New Zealand lamb is out of season 😂
@Rob_230 I've been here for the past 15 years and although there have been a few uncomfortable interactions, for the most part you're bang on. Kind of surprised by the opening of this article.
@jdv95 Look at this page: https://cy.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cymraeg It's in Welsh. Looks neat, but I don't understand any of it!
TV show The Valleys is pretty scary
@jdv95 there are loads of British (Isles) & Irish languages, and a few extinct ones too
@Get2sammyb Is Welsh Really That Bad?
Wales are the ones left same as the Scotts from the Roman Empire..............after they Slautered the Druids who were Celtic Priests..........Warning no spitting occured
During the Iron Age the region, like all of Britain south of the Firth of Forth, was dominated by the Celtic Britons and the Brittonic language.
As a Welshman i havent spit on anyone 😋 game looks good tho and welsh lullabies make good horror music
Could be worse, you could be a nation of arrogant people who the whole world despises!
I'm another that really likes the Welsh accent..part of what attracted me to my ex years ago.Shame her mum was so scary though..
This game looks decent though!keeping an eye on this one.
@jdv95 The British, be it the Welsh, Scottish, Northern Irish or English, are all condescending towards each other at some point or other. Especially around the time of international rugby competitions. It's all just part of being British.
Also, despite what some others have said, Welsh is the main language in North and West Wales. It's seldom used in South Wales though.
Im just a big gruff, beer chuggin, maple syrup eatin west canadian and i dont know what any of you folks are tahkin aboot eh. 🍻😊
Always love the scary games.. AAA games, that is! I understand that this is not AAA game, right?
tnx for the many explanations good people!
i'm sorry if it was a stupid question for those in the know.
Definately something captivating(and chilling) about these welsh lullabies. I love the welsh accent, especially on the ladies...Drippy and Tom Jones 😂
Maid? I'd say he's the butler !
@AdamNovice that might be because there were efforts to eradicate it. Look up the 'Welsh Not'. Besides, there's an increase in Welsh speakers https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-45611374
@Gatatog appreciate the support. Clearly shows he has a chip on his shoulder about something (probably an ex) and is speaking out of his arse.
@AdamNovice "You heard the Welsh speak 😉?"
Says the guy from Teesside 😉.
It feels very creepy. I think I will enjoy it.
