Let's all just forget about 2020, it's clearly a write-off. ESA seems to think so, having cancelled 2020's E3 show due to coronavirus, and it's now looking ahead to next year instead. With this year's expo out the window, the organisation has announced dates for E3 2021.
As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, next year's "reimagined" Electronics Entertainment Expo will take place from 15th to 17th June 2021.
It's interesting that the ESA has already unveiled the dates for the next show, because it's yet to reveal its plans for this year. Although E3 as we know it is cancelled, the organisers committed to "exploring options with our members to coordinate an online experience to showcase industry announcements and news in June 2020". In other words, there's meant to be an ESA-led online show of some sort, but we've yet to hear more about it.
This news comes just after IGN announced its own video games show, Summer of Gaming. Whether the ESA will follow through with its own E3-esque online show in the coming months as well, we'll have to see. Either way, we'll likely have a number of digital conferences to look forward to in the summer. Ubisoft has announced an online show, Warner Bros allegedly had big plans for E3 2020, and we can also look forward to a number of announcements from Activision. Maybe it'll be more or less business as usual?
Anyway, what do you think of all this? Are you interested to see the return of E3 in 2021? Clear the dates in the comments below.

it all depends if they decide to go ahead with the influencer crapfest they planned for this year.
if so than they might aswell just cancel it aswell.
oh i thought it was gone for good
and i agree with @jdv95 if they plan on doing next year what they was going to do this year they shouldn't even bother doing one at all
Yes. I would like to see a return of Rayman series with Rayman 4 with Rayman 2 roots, Sonic adventure series with third installment with the plot where Eggman sends himself, Sonic and his friends to 30 years of the future, new characters like Speedy the Hedgehog (Sonic and Amy's future son), Sakura (Speedy's younger sister), Punches (Knuckles's grandson), Renen (Tails' future son and Sakura's foster brother), Dusk (Shadow's future son), Xavier (Renen's older brother) and Eggman Jr (Eggman's future son) releasing in 2021.
"Reimagined"
More like, we're just going to push all of those influencer invites to 2021.
Neat. Hope we're not all dead by then.
Who cares at this point...
"Let's all forget about 2020, it's a write off"
More like a wake up call. If we have a successful year and new launch consoles it will be further evidence that E3 is just a relic of the past that is no longer needed.
"Mark your calendars?"
I'd say mark yours E3, your days are numbered if not already over.
I don't particularly care either way so long as a bunch of the companies post streams showcasing their games. Realistically, how useful is it to even have in-person gaming cons like this when 99.9% of the audience is watching streams from home?
I guess I'd miss Nintendo's Treehouse streams, but even then, they don't need to be at a public con to showcase gameplay. They can just stream somebody playing the game in a brightly lit room, and hardly anyone would notice the difference.
Do they have a contingency plan in case of a Covid-20 outbreak?
@scottdevine48 can't tell if you're joking or being serious?
