Sony knows we're all stuck indoors right now, and it's doing its best to help out. The platform holder has established a $100 million fund to fight the coronavirus, it's put aside a further $10 million for indie developers, and two free games have just been made available to everyone. Still not impressed? How about a brand new firmware update to stave off the boredom?
That's right, the latest system software update is out right now for PlayStation 4, taking the console to version 7.50. We know you're all as excited as we are to learn about what this firmware update brings to the table. Let's take a look at the patch notes and find out what treasures await:
"This system software update improves system performance."
Just as we suspected -- another absolute corker of a firmware update. Today, we have been blessed with further enhancements to PS4's system stability, and we couldn't be more thankful. What's more, firmware update 7.50 is only 471MB in size, so it won't take you long to get it downloaded and enjoy its bounties.
Are you as blown away by this firmware update as we are? Share the news with all your friends in the comments below.

These updates are what I live for honestly
Well we are living unstable times so bringing more stability is always nice.
Hopefully it stops the "LAN cable not connected." I get 10 and 25 minutes after startup that the last update magically introduced.
Wow. Let me go and have a lie down, the excitement . STAY SAFE EVERYONE.
Only thing i noticed in the beta was that 4:3 videos in the browser now display correctly
Here's hoping it foxed that issue where my ps4 would lose internet connection once in rest mode.
And still no word on ff7remake patch for the textures ...
PS4. More stable than a Tifa sports bra.
My system is best actor in the world!!! With these performance improvements it MUST get Oscar award this year!!! 😂
@Quintumply Poor this little boy dont know what he is doing. SMH.
Only change I found so far is that they changed the HDCP from version 2.2 to 2.3.
I only come to these articles for the comments section I wish one of these updates made it possible to control fan speed of the PRO. Ever since I got the PRO I have barely turned on the heating at home xD
Still a way to go before it matches the Steam client for updates which don't seem to do anything.
ITS LIKE CHRISTMAS IN APRIL!
Performance only? I'm disappointed about lack of stability in this update.
Ahhh thank god, I was really worried about lack of stability. 😉
Sonyntendo 4PS: the most stable system of all time
@ankehuber I've had that for a while now on both a 1st gen and Pro. Even prior to the last update. I thought it was an issue with my router at first as the internet itself wasn't dropping out. My IP even sent me a new router and the problem persisted. One thing I tried that reduced it happening (now it only happens once in a blue moon) was to setup the PS4s with a static IP. Might be worth a try if you don't have that already.
This update is better than the free games!
I am not happy at all with this update. It has messed up my disc tray. It does not say I have my game in which is Red Dead Redemption 2 even though it is in, then when I go to eject the disc it doesn't get ejected. I know it's this update that did it cause it was working just fine moments before the update and it hasn't worked since the updates been out
@Eldritch Thanks for that, you know I did actually read another recent post somewhere that said to fix it by exactly the same method. If this update doesn't fix it, I'll for sure give that a go.
OH.... MY GOSH!!!
I think I may have spiked my pants from excitement. Nothing gets me more riled up than stability!!!!
Make PS4 Updates Great Again
Thank the lord for Stability Thursday!
@ankehuber No worries. And if you have a router like mine where you can't add static IP addresses then just doing it on the PS4 works. Apparently it's not quite as reliable but I've only had the issue happen once in the last month. So can't really complain. Just wish Sony would sort it out.
"There's no need to fear, Stableman is here".
@JoeBlogs This comment killed me!
My pro still looks the same, feels the same and plays the same
I had my PS4 on a rickety shelf but that thing is just solid as a rock now. Well done Sony.
How the f*CK is this report even viable?....
I mean why write up about it? PS4 updates automatically anyway if one has it set up to do so and even if you decide to update manually (why would you do that anyway?) surely one would read the why's and wherefores before doing so.....
But anyway thanks for the article, yes, I'm bored too....
This update disabled my PS4, error code 42118-6, happend to alot of other people too. Was playing last night not a single issue. Now I can't even play locally, completely bricked my system.. I guess it just didn't know it was broken yet when I was playing it last night, thanks for straightening all that out for me Sony. My day was so much better now that I have absolutely nothing to do with my time let me tell ya.. dump hundreds of dollars into games and DLC alone and you really showed your appreciation for my business. I'm not even gonna waist my time trying to figure out what is wrong with this piece of junk, I don't care. Microsoft here I come. Hopefully they don't decide to disable my console for absolutely no reason at all at a time when I need it the most.. Thanks Sony.
I already had the update.
It doesn’t say it’s gonna update the stability. I think my PS4 might fall the table if it doesn’t get regular stability practice.
''SHE CAN'T TAKE ANY MOAR STABILITY CAP'N!''
Hmmm if I didn’t know any better I’d say this was sarcastic and you were sour.. hahahahaha...
Normally I rush home from work to get these stability updates installed or I even call my wife and talk her through how to update. Knowing I am just at home and can do it any time takes the thrill out of.
Still in todays scary world, we all need a little bit of stability right?
@Eldritch well the (hopefully) good news is that the error hasn't happened in the two times I've waked from rest today, which is a first. Fingers crossed that update has corrected it
@JerrodR The error code means it can't apply the update because it thinks your BD drive is faulty. Keep trying to reinstall the update. People have reported that fixed it, even if it took around 10 attempts. Though if your BD drive is actually broken and you've been playing digital games, no idea if that'll work.
Well, the PlayStation Store didn't crash after I checked out 30 new games, so that's a thing.
@ApostateMage
"More stable than a Tifa sports bra."
Bra-hahahahahahaaha xD
@iamnobody117
I was playing a disc yesterday before it downloaded now it is telling me su-42118-6 says Blu-ray player doesn’t work, well now it doesn’t there is a disc stuck in there now just so happens it no longer works as I download new update, this is playstations fault as I see there are many people that have the same problem! I will not be buying another I won’t pay for their mistake
@Matroska
It will not work what ever the download was it has done it to mine, I was playing online yesterday before the down load my disc is stuck now (easy to fix that) and wo t play disc anymore did yesterday before now it won’t after update! I don’t know but I won’t be spending another 400$ on ps I think I will go Xbox ! PlayStation you need to fix this I have seen many people complaining about this as do you really think all these people don’t use the Blu-ray at all come on ps.
@JerrodR same here I explained it and I don’t get it so pissed at ps for this I won’t renew my psplus nor buy another one this just pushes me more to pc
Mine screwed up! I had to boot my PS4 into safe mode and installed the update from a USB drive in the end. NOT HAPPY.
@YETi Was it the same error? And does your disc drive work at all now?
@Udy No my update failed and had to connect controller via usb etc. All back up and running now thankfully. Disc drive works fine. Sorry to hear about your difficulties.
@YETi well I am too as I won’t buy a new ps so they lose not me I’ll switch
So stable now... https://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/OycsmTh.gif
Is this reason why nobody can just simply sign in to my PS4 with their phone just by scaning those numbers on screen with camera on phone?
