Update: So, 24 hours after Sony's surprise DualSense reveal, the statistics are in: 4.3 million likes on Instagram. That's less than the 5 million likes the PS5's logo attracted, although it did set a new record on Twitter with over 300k likes.
Original Story: You can’t really argue with Sony’s PlayStation 5 marketing strategy when you see results like this. The Japanese giant shocked us all by revealing the DualSense controller on the PlayStation Blog today, and an hour since the first images were released it’s already attracted over 1.5 million likes on Instagram. That number, in case you had any doubt, is only going to keep rising.
Why is this relevant? Well, it’s worth keeping in mind that the PS5’s logo became the most liked gaming-related Instagram post ever by attracting five million likes in 24 hours. This looks set to surpass that by some margin. What will happen when the console’s fully revealed? New records will be set, we suspect.

it's much more effective doing it this way than announcing reveals beforehand.
if you announce news related events/reveals beforehand the expectations are always to unrealistic or overshadow the actuall reveals, leading to disappointment.
also it just shows more confidence to release info out of nowhere instead of relying on building up the hype.
@jdv95 I actually agree. The danger is leaks, of course, but that can happen with pre-arranged announcements too.
Dropping bombs out of the blue has the element of surprise.
It looks like Astro Bot and the DS4 had a baby.
The best comparison I could think of was a Steam Controller with white anime armour.
Dont know why.
Actually, looking at it....how the hell do you go back to the OS Home screen with this? There's no Home or PS Button visible.
emm, am i only one that think Sony doesn't show back side? maybe there are some button on it?
also, do traditional buttons have light (LED) in them?
@Haruki_NLI it looks to me like the PS logo is the button
@Haruki_NLI
Err the ps button is literally a PS button!!!
I'll tell you what happens when the console is fully revealed. It was freaking awesome!
I've bene so distracted by how white it is I didn't even realize how white the buttons are. How the heck are we going to get through fast paced QTEs in the likes of Spiderman and God of War without color coded buttons? I really don't even go by the shapes in QTEs, I just see green or blue or orange and hit the button. How am I supposed to do that when they are all a very light shade of gray? Stupid.
Those colors are iconic.
Looks excellent, been a lot of negative speculation about PS5 in recent days, but I have to say, they've knocked it out of the park with the Dualsense design in my opinion. What I took from Mark Cerney's developer reveal was that Sony has gone to great lengths chatting to developers asking them what they want and have spent their time wisely building a console around that wish list. Never mind this TFlop BS, you want your developers on board with the system and features in order for them to be able to bring their ideas to life. I'm absolutely convinced the PS5 will give gamers some unbelievable experiences, particularly from their first party studios.
As for third party studios, Ubi will release Assassins Creed 35, exactly the same as the 34 that came before it and EA will release Battlefield 15 and FIFA 2030....SSDD. lol
@rjejr I played the from the PS1 untill now so i know all the button placements. 1)Left Square,
2)up triangle, 3)right circle, 4)bottom cross. 1)pink, 2)green, 3)red, 4)blue. They will probably have a few colors with the controllers.
@Wunters
It aligns with Cerny explanation that PS5 is going for innovation and bold choices instead of playing it safe.
Just additional evidence which proves that Sony don't need e3. They can get away with doing their own thing.
I hope they can wipe the smirk off Phil Spencer in the coming weeks and months. Series X will be a great machine, but as always, his rhetoric seems a little unecessary
@rjejr This is my problem with it too. I could deal with the two tone colour, but the colours if the face buttons are iconic and i dont think Sony should drop them
The buttons seem translucent so I’m assuming they light up. I’ve not had to look down at my controller to know where the buttons are since 1996 though so I’m good. It looks cool. I must be honest though, I’ve never been a huge fan or hater of any particular controller model. The only thing I’ve ever hated in any controller is XBOX’s d-pad.
Xbox- feelin good about the console reveal
PS- Heres the controller
Xbox-...damnit
Was obsessed with my White VITA transparent buttons. Now it is back - I am so happy right now 😃
Design itself looks good.
But generally don't think it's a good idea to have white color plastic product...
It's easily dirt & potential to turn yellowish.
Guess I'll wait for alternative color before getting one...
Man can't wait for sony to share playstation 5 final design, I hope they can make ps5 smaller than ps4 pro 😃
Also, this is why "xbox is leading the next-gen talks" is hilariously wrong.
@LemonHaze I also cant ever imagine anyone owning a sony console and not knowing the button layout 🤷♂️😂
@Flaming_Kaiser I know where they are too. When I see green on the screen my finger knows which button to push. When I see blue, orange, red, I know which buttons to push. When I see light gray, well having all buttons be light gray means we have to be able to see the symbols clearly and quickly.
I'm not sure new Sony players, whether youngsters or former Nintendo or Xbox fans, would like looking at all light gray symbols on the screen in game. And if they are going to make them gray on screen, but the old button colors, well then just make the buttons those colors too.
Though really if they got rid of all QTEs in games I'd be fine with that too. More than fine in fact.
@Rob_230 Iconic is the word. They might as well go A, B, X and Y like Nintendo and MS while they're at it.
@LemonHaze The color of the buttons ON THE SCREEN during QTE moments in games. The button colors are used in the game to match the button color on the controller.
Image God of War boss fights but all the on screen icons are light gray. Lame.
@rjejr But i never look at my controller so it wont make any difference for me. 😆 If they wont change the place on the controller i wont make any difference even if the buttons would be blank i still would know where to press. 😋
@Neolit That would be kinda cool. I wont notice it because i never look at my controller still cool though.
@rjejr solution: just don’t do QTEs
It's quite interesting how different people have different ways of thinking of the buttons. Honestly, if someone had asked me yesterday if the DS4 buttons were coloured, I wouldn't have known. It's all about the shapes, those are the iconic parts to me.
But then, is it because after 20+ years, I know that x is blue, triangle is green, without them actually being coloured.
@Neolit Ooooh backlit, hadn't thought of that. I can live with backlit, thanks.
But it just looks like gray to me. And if it is backlit how come they show the blue lighting but not the buttons? Unless you think the blue is just a color, and not a light. I assumed it was a light, guess I could be wrong about that too. Hope you're right about the lights.
@eshtebala If there was a way to skip them in games, I would. Not all of them, I like extra bonus advantage ones for being good, but when playing a game like God of War and I have to hit 5 or 6 of them in a row, and every time you miss one you start over, well if I wanted to do that I'd play rhythm games.
Now it's 4.2M likes on instagram, wow.
Btw i realized where sony got the idea fir the dualsense, of course my favorite musical artist Bjork!!
Check out the video and youll see the obvious connection.

I dont see the problem with the buttons not coloured. A few DS4 models dont have colours either. Dont need colours. I like it this way.
@Gmork___ Stunning voice though, on the whole, prefer The Sugarcubes to her solo stuff.
Those buttons are concern to me because it is incredible flats.. Not a popup buttons like tradition PS1-Ps4. I prefer popup buttons but I dont mind this if it is incredible comfortable and sensitive buttons then I am going for it. If not, then the popup buttons are the best way to go as tradition. I shall wait and see.
