While it doesn't sound like there'll be many PlayStation 5 consoles to go around when it launches this Holiday 2020, there's hope you may not have to wait for the system to arrive in your country. You may recall that Sony staggered the release of the PlayStation 4 in 2013, making it available in North America first, then Europe a couple weeks later, and then finally Japan the following year. According to a report on Bloomberg, however, boss Jim Ryan wants the next-gen device to be available everywhere on the same day.
“PlayStation chief Jim Ryan has stressed that the machine’s launch should be simultaneous around the globe, according to people in the company’s supply chain,” the website reports.
This is good news because it means no one will be left twiddling their thumbs, waiting for the hardware to be made available in their region. Of course, it could prove a massive headache for the Japanese giant to overcome, with console launches notoriously challenging – and coronavirus throwing a massive spanner in the works on top. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens, because we’re still not convinced the console is going to make it out on time.

like you said it could be hard with the current situation but lets hope it goes well
last thing we want is for Sony to mess this up
Ah yes, when the PS4 came out in 2019 😉
@nessisonett Fixed lol.
@nessisonett Blimey my PS4 must be a knock-off as I've had mine for years.
Not really a problem for me, since i will probably wait 2-3 years before and if i buy a Playstation 5.
Console launch date is just one factor. I'm more worried that there will be no noteworthy games available on launch.
@ThaBEN Why wouldn't there be? Curious.
It still will be a headache. Just means less stock for each country
@LN78 limited stock in reality or limited artificially still makes it ripe for 2nd hand selling
Some things are just beyond our control. One can only place a preorder as soon as possible. I will buy mine from Amazon or BestBuy soon as orders go live. I would never buy a product from a scalper! I would prefer to be someone that waited over being a FOOL.
Even with lower stock to sell there may not be a shortage at all. Millions of people are out of a job sales could be far below expected rates.
I will wait for PS5 Slim White color with at least 6 - 12 Cartoonish Kiddie games i can play.
But, i can buy the games first, ask permission to play PS5 at my game shop before i buy the machine for myself. 😁
@LN78 I completely disagree, it’s not a bad look on Sony in my opinion. Nintendo intentionally making a shortage is much worse than limited stock. Sony can help that, I’d rather take my chances getting one randomly if I don’t order soon enough than waiting until sometime between March and June. By that point I probably could have gotten lucky to get one anyway
Soapbox: Scalpers will absolutely take advantage of limited PS5 supply on launch. And the only way this behavior will ever stop is when people agree to stop paying said scalpers the ridiculously inflated prices they’re asking for a product that should be sold at MSRP. Let that scalped sh*t sit online and collect dust, and be patient.
Not surprising and will also mean we’ll have what 10 consoles per store....
@LN78 I think this is going to be a case of if you want one you need to pre-order it. I expect it will be quite a long time before you can just walk into a shop and buy one the same day.
Having a Japan only release for a console would be weird nowadays with so many developers around the world.
'it doesn't sound like there'll be many PlayStation 5 consoles to go around when it launches this Holiday 2020'
What a lot of BS
How many times are you going to milk that guys article with 'the people said' sources?
Hes always recycling old news.
Jim Ryan, January 2020:
'the three-month delay for the release of PlayStation 4 in Japan was a decision that I was deeply involved in.
"There was reasonable ground for that decision, but these days I do not think that was a good idea. '
The people Ryan said.. 🙃 and that's not a rumour
This would be a major blow for Sony. They cannot afford to make limited units as people will just go for the series X instead. I will also be making a pre order as soon as it is open but if they take the mick, I'll just get the series X.
@Bestintheworld10 You’re assuming MS won’t have the same troubles. The only thing I can imagine making it easier on MS is that they will have less demand. Even then though, I don’t imagine that would make it easy to find one.
@LN78 I don’t think the supply is even going to be an issue. If it’s sold out it doesn’t look bad on sony, not only that, if it’s really going to be 500 plus dollars, not as many
People are going to even have that much expendable cash now
The Series X could face a shortage too - its all supply and demand. Either company could struggle to make enough consoles to cover the demand but if people are struggling financially, the demand for a 'costly' new console may well be lower than the actual supply.
I don't think someone who has their mind set on buying a PS5 will buy a Series X instead if they can't get hold of a PS5 at/around launch. Maybe a few people may do so - those not so particular, with a PS4 back catalogue, PS+/Now subscription etc.
For me, I will probably look to upgrade one of the consoles at a later date - if that means I upgrade to the Series X first and 'wait' for PS5 stock, then so be it.
Well... Yeah. If Argentina gets a day one availability, then I'll preorder on Sony's site no matter how much they charge... I'm expecting around 1000 USD 🙈...
Nice, I'll definitely preoder if the price isn't too expensive in my country (compared to usa price).
@MattSilverado wow really? Is that price due to high taxes?
As time passes and the reality of how long it will be before things go back to normal I'm becoming increasingly concerned at the push to get these new consoles out this year. Im thinking of waiting at this moment as I don't want to be holding a console at Christmas which was rushed out of the factory with many potential hardware issues. It's happened before and even today it still happens looking at you Microsoft, Samsung, Apple, Sony!
God knows what will happen, but I'm guessing it will be preorder quick or miss out.. this will all depend on what games are available on release too! People are going to want something that isn't available on our current gen consoles, one of the reasons why I think the new Xbox is going to seriously fail at launch, why spend 400-500 on the new series X, when I can play the same games on the one X? It's not tempting at all. Sony definitely need a big hitter to sell the system.
@LN78
Hey if people got more money then they need and they are willing and can lay down 2K for a PS5 it is their choice. But i do agree when companies purposefully limit stock but even then , people with money to burn and no sense will always be there and they have a choice to either buy it for such prices or not.
@Dodoo yes. I paid for PS4 around 1000USD in July 2014 from a Sony Store near home. I you wait long (way long) enough you can buy a "current gen" console for about a 35/40% overprice from the suggested retail price in say, USA.
Bloomberg has said the issue is not that they can't make regular deliveries but rather if the demand will be there if it costs 500 dollars given everybody's economic hardship. They said the pandemic has not affected the supply chain only the cost of parts. Which is why Sony is still saying holiday 2020. I myself will be there day 1 and despite everything think they will easily sell all 6 million units at $500.
@MattSilverado damn! Would importing from another country be a cheaper option or would you have to pay import taxes? 🤔
with less ps5 consoles released worldwide and a higher price tag, that is most likely not gonna happen.
@LN78 But things have already returned to much of the capacity before covid in China. And we are still 7 months away from release. I guess we will have to wait and see. But I don't think they will delay.
@Dodoo that's usually the way here. Either you but from an "importer" cheaper than the official store, or ask a friend on a travel or buy it yourself in another country. Thing is custom tax when bringing goods is or was (changed last year) so its expensive anyway
