Capcom is leaking more than a holey hosepipe at the minute, with details about Resident Evil 8 and a Resident Evil 4 remake hitting the headlines. The former is said to be on track for a 2021 release and will purportedly represent a departure for the beloved horror brand. It’s supposedly a first-person title like Resident Evil VII: Biohazard and is in development for both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
However, one addition tidbit has emerged courtesy of a Gematsu source: it’ll be playable with PlayStation VR just like its numbered predecessor. Exactly how this feature will work remains up for debate: will it be exclusive to the PS4 version? Or will there be a new headset for PS5 by then? We know that the original PSVR will be backwards compatible with Sony’s next-gen system.
To be honest, we’re just delighted to learn that Capcom may be sticking with virtual reality in some form. While Resident Evil VII was a thoroughly enjoyable experience in pancake mode, it was taken to another level with PSVR, and we’d be disappointed if the next first-person entry in the series didn’t have a similar option.

Hope it will launch with with PSVR 2. Sold me on the first one and would really love for the next one to have updated graphics and features.
Yeah I'm also hopeful we get PSVR2 pretty soon after the PS5 as well.
So many rumours around RE. I believe M-Two will handle remakes while the Re2R team will do Re8.
Nah. I wont buy VR. Not good for your eyes. I am staying with old tradition. Sit back and play it on tv screen for few hours a day and enjoying outside and natures. No thanks!
Amazing news if it turns out to be true. Once you’ve played Resident Evil VII in VR, you can’t go back. It would be great if we got the same again for VIII.
This is pretty much guaranteed to be true.
Playstation is steadily supporting VR & this makes perfect sense considering the success of RE7 in VR.
Yaaaaassssss!
If true
@get2sammyb
I'm of the mind PS5 will be delayed into early 2021 but still believe PSVR II is most likely coming late 2021.
I bet PSVR II will have incredible bundles right off the bat. Resident Evil VIII as a PSVR II launch title?
Hell yeah.
It's the only reason I bought 7(never played any RE games before that). Let's hope it's true.
Thats good .but can we get dragon dogma 2 and onimusha.lets get it capcom.word up son
I heard it will be controlled with the Guitar Hero peripheral and zombies are defeated with the power of rock music! It remains to be seen if Singstar microphones will be supported, but as a zombie-of-sorts (RIP Singstar!) it could work on so many levels.
Whole reason why I bought the PSVR in the first place. Hope this is true, it truly is an incredible experience in VR.
I hated re7 in vr. It made my eyes hurt, it was blurry, there was texture pop in and loads of glitchy jaggies, and the draw distance was awful. I gave up not long after the chainsaw fight and played it pancake. I'm on an original ps4 so no idea if it was any better on Pro or later models. Wanted to like it but it just wasn't agreeing with me. Arkham vr was fine and so is astro bot so not sure what the issue was really, maybe just too intensive for the og machine 🤷♂️
I found Resident Evil VII too scary in normal mode and when I tried it in VR as amazing and real as it seemed it absolutely scared the pants off me,so had to give up and change back to normal lo!
But any game available in vr sounds good to me.
The only time that I tried PSVR was on Resi Evil 7. I was literally peering around corners on it, it was genuinely impressive and a little scary. Unfortunately it also made me feel really sick.
I could only just about handle RE7 in normal vision, in VR it totally creeped me out where I couldn't play it!
Was totally amazing experience, well done Capcom for sticking with VR even from a scardy cat like me. Will be buying!
That would be cool, but I could see myself still using the original psvr for a while. What I really want is a proper controller replacement. Tired of those old usb connectors on the move.
@nookie_egg That’s funny as I’m the polar opposite. RE7 was transformative in VR where as Astro Bot just gives me the complete boke!!
Loved Resi 7 in VR. Hope this is true.
@ApostateMage
I had the same problem as you - made me feel sick after 20 minutes of playing. Then I changed movement on the right stick to 30’ snap turns and I could play the game fine with no issue. Anything I play in vr now that supports snap turns I automatically switch on.
Amazing if true.
Lone Echo and Alyx have sold me on VR. Even if just a couple of games a year - the experience is worth the cost.
Giggity Goo!
This must mean that PSVR2 will be fantastic. That said I still haven't found the courage to play Resident Evil 7 which I purchased ages ago.
@Oddbodjunior can I ask are you on an og or a pro? I'm actually ia little bit in love with astro bot so I'm probably bias but it didn't give me a headache or anything and the textures, for the most part, were absolutely spot on. I wanted to love resi but it was just a bit much.
@nookie_egg Way better on pro. The outside the house bits are a little crap on the pro but the rest is A-1! I tried it on my wife's base model then felt bad and bought her a pro as well.
PS5 with the OG headset would look amazing if RE7 is anything to base it upon.
@Jeremiah_Thor I figured there was a bit more firepower on the pro, enough to make a difference. Shame, because it was geared up to be an incredible experience. But kudos to you for doing that 👍🏻
Itd be a HUGE step backwards if vr wasnt part of it.
"Pancake mode" always makes me chuckle 😂
@azoreseuropa 🤔🤔🤔?!?.
Whaaaat?
@azoreseuropa ignorance can be bliss, but in this case you're dead wrong and that means you're missing out. Sucks for you, but hey... its your loss buddy!
I am SO PUMPED about this news. I still think about Resident Evil 7 due to VR and I don't think I can really play it flat. To me it will forever be a VR-only game. I know that mansion like the back of my hand now and I wouldn't have it any other way.
@nookie_egg I’m on a pro. I’m perplexed by Astro Bot as most everything else is no problem whatsoever.
Resi 7, Moss & Beat Sabre make the PSVR a worthy purchase in itself if you ask me.
@Oddbodjunior strange how different these experiences are for people with their relative setups. I've been itching to try moss as I've heard nothing but good things, I just haven't seen a decent price for it yet. Beat saber looks fun too but I've always been terrible at those type of games.
@azoreseuropa I had a vr and whilst it may not be good for your eyes it certainly wasnt for my heart or my wifes washing pile. I dont do horror at the best of times as im a huge wuss but curiosity got the better of me. Ive never sh*t my pants so hard in my life 😂. Alas, that was the last time i played resi 7 😂
@Kidfunkadelic83
@Party_Cannon LOL! Nah.
RE7 in VR was truly revolutionary! Please be true!
