While we’re all very excited about the possibilities enabled by the PlayStation 5’s new DualSense controller, it’s perhaps worth keeping in mind that various disabilities may mean not everyone can enjoy it as intended. Fortunately, the Japanese giant is on the case, as the organisation’s accessibility specialist Mark Friend has pooled Twitter for a list of concerns.

Among the responses thus far, fans are eager to know whether the intensity of the device’s haptic feedback can be altered, and also whether there are back buttons on the controller. Furthermore, many feel that the face buttons should once again adopt colours, as this can improve readability in games. How do you feel the DualSense could be improved for accessibility?

They already levelled the playing field with the face buttons for colour blind folk.
I’ve heard rumors the face buttons are actually colored but light up with LEDs. That would be amazing but I’m not getting my hopes up.
Looking at it, if anyone with such issues can use the dualshock 4 why would they not be able to use this?
@DeepSpace5D that would be cool to be honest but i don't see it happening after all it's a drain on the battery
besides the PSVita didn't have coloured buttons and it was fine, people are blowing this up way to much
Does it have buttons on the underside of the controller...?
@FullbringIchigo Yeah but we all know the Vita didn't sell well due to its lack of coloured buttons. How can Sony repeat the same mistake?
@billyboyblue666 Yeah but only if you hold it upside down. Very versatile controller.
@FullbringIchigo I’m a bit partial to the traditional face button colors myself, but overall agree it’s not that big of a deal. There will be many custom versions of the Dualsense anyway, as there were for the DS4.
I just want better battery, the same as switch pro controller maybe difficult with all the dualsense tech, but at least the same as either dualshock3 or xbox one gamepad battery.
Will it survive an angry lob at the wall when I'm blown up by a 7 year old in a DeLorean in GTA?
1. can "create" button be permanently disabled?
2. can microphone be permanently muted?
3. can haptic be permanently disabled?
4. can lightbars be switched off like on ds4?
5. can speaker be permanently muted like on ds4?
that's all I need to be happy. ☺️
Put the analog stick in the correct position. Nobody likes bending their thumbs in an unnatural way anymore.
Looks way cleaner without colorful buttons
@djlard Sony has always been very accessibility friendly, so I'm sure they'd likely carry forward with system controller settings
@Matroska "Yeah but we all know the Vita didn't sell well due to its lack of coloured buttons."
Now hold on, we all know? That's just your assumption, and not a very plausible one. PSP didn't have colored buttons and sold well. Heck almost none of the Nintendo have colored buttons and they've sold loads.
@Puudel You...actually took that comment about the Vita in a serious, non-sarcastic way?
@dskatter I did. Fair enough!
Colored buttons are quite a qestion. Lots of games uses in interactive cutscenes quick button tap where personaly I orient ONLY by color (there is no time to check shape) BUT a lot of times I have a problem with square and circle, similar shapes and similar colors, so I must quickly blink on my controler to reassure that square is pink and on the left. With buttons without color these cutscenes becomes nightmare for me, because it sometimes take me a few seconds to stare at controller to recognize difference between square and circle.
@Matroska I was alluding to the recently launched DualShock 4 plug-in attachment that allows for programmable rear triggers and whether Sony had integrated this into their design.
But then I'm sure you knew that.
Why would you need color buttons? One is on the top, one is on the right, one is on the left and one on the bottom... Those are not revolving every few minutes, they are always on the same place. It only takes few minutes to remember where is square, triangle, circle or cross. D-pad is not color coded somehow? Gears in the car are not color coded. Knife and fork are not color coded... What's the real problem?
May I request a pair of little differently colored flags sticking out of the back of the controller? To see which back button is what color? 😅
