Look, we hear you loud and clear: you think we’ve had a bit too much to say about the PlayStation 5’s new DualSense controller. Still, even with that in mind, we couldn’t resist sharing this incredible render by Giuseppe Spinelli and Let’s Go Digital. The video focuses mainly upon Sony’s next-gen pad, but also showcases a concept for the console itself.
Some aspects of the controller’s design have been interpreted, due to the Japanese giant keeping them underwraps. “I’ve decided to re-use the same backshell from the prototype controller I made some time ago,” Spinelli explained. “That shell already fitted the DualSense shape, so I only had to make a few changes to make it fit in a perfect way.”
One other aspect the graphic artist was forced to imagine is the audio jack at the bottom of the pad, which gets a rather sensual reveal in the concept video. “This port is not visible in the product images from Sony either,” Spinelli added. “So, for the time being we have no idea yet where it will be located exactly, my concept of the DualSense controller is just a preview.”

Ahh to be that headphone jack...
Nice vid. Not sure about the channel 5 softcore erotica music, though.
Wait, whats a headphone jack for? I forget
Hmm, those misaligned seams where the black and white plastic meet on the grips looks uncomfortable. Hopefully the real thing will have tight tolerances and good build quality.
That console is 😍.imagine a red and black or a gold and black console and controler.word up son
Im really looking forward to it but I cant help but wonder how it will stack up against the more powerful Xbox series x? Why do Sony always have to be JUST behind microsoft in power? Oh well come on Sony give us something to brag about.
Much better in All-Black - I don't like the console design much though and wouldn't want that much LED lighting on it. As long as it can fit on a shelf, fit in with colour of the rest of my AV boxes and/or room and not have to be stood up, I will be OK - I don't care too much what it looks like though - its just a plastic box of electronics that allows me to play the games I want - but I would prefer it to fit on a shelf and with the colour scheme of all my other boxes and/or room decor
So... after the release of the 'back button attachment' for DS4 and everyone assuming that was pre-emptive of what would be included on the PS5 controller...?
@hkreasthull when ps4 realease it was more powerful than x box so i dont know what you talking about like x box always have yhe power advantage.and what does Microsoft have to brag about.ps4 got better exclusive than microsoft.x box need more power than sony.and a ps5 pro is coming anyway.the only thing sony needs is to aquire more studios.like kojima.bluepoint.remedy.etc.word up son
@hkreasthull
Thats actually wrong. The power is always negligible and has always flip flopped between the two in regards to the undying d***measuring contest the platform is synonymous with. The xbox 360 was also inferior in regards to hardware power over the ps3, however, due to a higher price and logistics regarding being harder to develop games for, the ps3 was slightly behind but soon made up the difference toward the end of the cycle with games to follow like The last of us setting the benchmark for what the potential is and that translated to the ps4s record breaking success regarding having a palm and getting their s*** together, which will logically follow on with the ps5.
To no finer point, this gen was the reverse of last gen with xbox one at launch, having no incentive for gaming and the same watery hardware and an operating system that sucks and is so inconsistent to the point it becomes alienating. It just goes to show it's always about games, but the real question is what is Microsoft's move, since all they have done is rehash sequels as part of a dying string of mediocrity.
To he brutally homest Xbox have had no genuinely above average games this gen and had maybe one or two like cuphead and sunset overdrive which still fizzled, certainly nothing on the likes of GOW, spiderman ps4, shadow of the colossus remake, Uncharted, horizon zero dawn and the last of us, just to name a few.
All things considered it's still neck and neck in regards to hardware, since there's a 1. Something discrepancy according to floating computational power aka: teraflops and the ps5 just seem to be the system that's a guaranteed decent system with a consistent, solid software and equally great games lining up sequels with new IPs guaranteed and in the pipeline, as expected, plus VR as a bonus.
Sony also seem to be busy optimising performance in regard to thermals by having a CPU that gets hot where it's necessary under load and guages throttling on a case by case basis, instead of necessitating an always hot system, which may prove to be noisy and a bottleneck, with a uninspired large design and fan to match, but they're essentially going to be running a similar configuration and all it boils down to is software and optimisation.
Frankly I personally think xbox has always been a poor investment if you consider PC renders it obsolete in regards to games offered and raw performance, especiallylongevity with the same games available on the same account for years that puts the backwards compatibilityto shame. There's also the fact Xbox have no competition in regards to VR which sucks and has missed the mark on gathering more fans to its system. I mean, to no finer point, the one x flopped and failed to really turn the profits and sales around for Xbox, despite having a more powerful system, going to show the power wasn't necessarily the issue.
Instead, to me it seems xbox couldn't care less about giving gamers a reason to buy their system and justify it aside from dumb services and unrelated matters aside from having a 1. Something TF advantage. I mean, placing all your cards on hardware just seems to be setting fans up for disappointment and I was ultimatley disappointed in what xbox had to offer with the X having been invested in PS4 for most this generation.
I'll just finish my long-ass monologue by saying that xbox may have appeared to won the battle, but the war is far from over and I guarantee it's hardware assault will only pip sony to the post so far before the real issues come into play surrounding games.
Ahhhh no back buttons on the controller.
I like the white & blue colours and the console design.
I never understood why it is people loose their s*** over a white system when the black one is released, and the lose their s*** over a black one when the standard one is white. I personally prefer the option for both, but would people just calm down and have a rational mind when they consider color =/= design and just because it's black doesn't make it better or change the design, since it's the same aforementioned design controller.
Besides, black systems just look cheap and nasty, plus they visibly wear worse with greasy hands giving them a sheen with dusting being all the more visible and annoying.
I like this modern and futuristic design, it seems in line with an alienware design philosophy and their PSVR headset, too, which is hopefully indicative of the new system itself, which is to say very exciting stuff if it remotely resembles the peripheral in question. The rest just need to get over it and accept change, while the others coke to grips with the fact the xbox series x (still a dumb name) is as boring and uninspired as most of their consoles prior and I'm sure it's fair to say xbox have always sucked at this, I mean, just look at that hideous Duke controler that was swiftly replaced.
I don't like that Black color.
I prefer White color as PS4 controller.
And let's change the PS5 slogan with something better, #letsgophysical 🤟
Wow, that emphasis on the jack lol.
@hkreasthull Sony never needed more power to make games look better than Xbox.
@PCPS4XB Exactly. It's about the quality of the game as a whole, not just pretty visuals.
@Zach_99 Watch the language please
Its very annoying and not a legit one from Sony just yet. My gosh. Very annoying!
@Anti-Matter You prefer white ? Its very ugly color. It is going to be yellowish stain and discoloration easily. I am stick with black one!
@azoreseuropa
White is my best color for any electronic devices.
White is very rare color for gaming devices.
My PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim, PS4 Slim, New 3DS XL + LL, Wii are White color.
Even my TV is White Sharp Aquos 32'. White color all the way...
Also, White color for me represent Innocent, Kiddie, Toy looking, Rare and Rebelious.
I Never like Black color for gaming devices and electronics.
It looks boring, too mainstream, cheap and not kiddie looking.
@Zach_99
I LOVE White color for gaming devices ! 😍
It represent my references for being Kiddie, Innocent and Rebellious.
Also, White color is like Blank paper.
I can decorate my gaming console with cute design i created by myself. 😉
Any day now... Just waiting for that reveal.
Prefer the two tone white
@Anti-Matter Cool. I might think about it. Maybe or Maybe not. I still like black but white and black is not too bad to be honest. Thanks.
@Zach_99 is of all the games you named only one is original new ip. Several are just literally remakes of ps3 or PS2 games and another is just ANOTHER in a long line of licensed games.
Sony isnt really just blowing up with new original ip either is all I'm saying.
They're games have been great but many of them are based on games that in the past I gave 0 thought or if I did try them they were mediocre at best (uncharted).
At the end of the day someone HAS to have the games that are more popular t and I can remember a time when every franchise Microsoft was putting out DOMINATED and anything Sony did was just felt as a rip off that did it way worse.
Halo 1, 2, 3 or Gears of War 1,2,3
/
Killzone 1 or resistance fall of man?
Anyone's "new hotness" can easily become "old and tired" it just remember that!
If Microsoft has done any of this right we have 0 clue what amazing games they are brining and won't even be able to call them that to long after we've been playing them.
That's the point.

@Cybrshrk
Really, so apparently the newest exclusive Spiderman IP, that has simultaneously set and broke sales records as the fastest selling ps4 exclusive surpassing GOW while breaking 10 million sales (13.2 million). That apparently means nothing? So what about Horizon: zero dawn, The last of Us, Bloodbourne, the last guardian, concrete genie, days gone, ghosts of Tsushima, The order 1886, detroit: become human, death stranding, until dawn, dreams, and a few or basically any VR games apparently just skipped your mind? In regards to a limited scope on what sony offer? So what about remakes? The market is full of them and is clearly still offering something familiar, yet new for a new demographic of gamers. The Resident evil 2 remake was huge and the 3rd has alredy surpassed the lifetime sales of the original in under a week. So frankly I think shrugging a remake of is rather convenient when actively ignoring games like Shadow of the colossus and medievil, for example, both of which were huge.
Is it not enough to say that you're more than likely the minority here, especially when games like Uncharted 4 managed to sell over 15 million copies grossing 65 million in three weeks in digital sales alone whilst winning 5 out of 8 nominations including a game of the year award. Further, something like GOW also won a game of the year, surpassed 10 million sales and picked up a game of the year in the process. I wouldn't even be mad if Microsoft had any ambition, but with the bar set so high, you can't exactly get pissy with some guy calling out the complacency, especially with the dry season the xbox has had with virtually nothing to show even factoring in new framchise releases. I also wouldn't get uppity when xbox have not shut up since about the master chief collection, and then even managed to screw that up at launch LMFAO.
Secondly, GOD of war was a new IP for all intents and purposes and was the biggest departure a franchise such as it has ever seen (that being a basic button mashing hack and slash with little in the ways of plot). So really I'd go as far as to say every accolade is deserved and did the franchise justice in effectively refreshing it, which is something that is rarely done in games. Also, Uncharted 4 and its expansion game was a conclusion to the franchise and effectively demonstrated how not to waffle on and keep a franchise meandering for eternity like some input limbo that inevitably kills franchises and renders their reputation null.
Thirdly, if it wasn't clear enough, your opinion is menaingles and frankly that which obtuse for the sake of it. I'm clearly emphasising that there's no excuse not to have something in responss to the slew of new IPs and existing ones being expanded on while xbox virtually offer nothing. Xbox have also historically offered nothing outside the few you can count on your hands and the fleeting sense of superiority and are obviously oblivious to the competition and market. That's neither how you cary a generation or existing franchises and frankly a game like gears 4 and 5 is a fate worse than death when the game had already concluded with 3, for all intents and purposes. I'd also like to see a legit consensus that Sony titles have outlived their welcome. You wot find one outside of braindead morons, because such a consensus doesn't exists.
Fourth, when have Sony ever ripped off anything like gears or even Halo? They maybe have like one racing game and maden but even the racing game is miles apart in almost every aspect aside from the core mechanic. Kill zone was/ is nothing like Halo LMFAO! instead what I remember is xbox getting a lucky break and riding out the coat tails of that shred of success and having a failed generation to show for it now. I also distinctly remember the gap closing toward the end of last gen with Sony having learned it's lesson and hands down being the most successful system with 108 million sales versus 65 being not even close, pal. If you're trying to tell me Xbox have been on their A game this whole time then they're instantly gonna fail if they keep this up. Even if xbox are hiring what like 5 studios? And what? Who are they? What do they specialize in? The fact of the matter is xbox clearly have been inept at handling existing franchises and it's become apparent that anything else under the same publisher is probably going to indicate the same trend unless they overall their tactics and priorities- which is very unlikely given the fact they were shoved to the side. Obviously you can be optimistic, but xbox have never lead gaming where it counts: games. Again, they had a break with the 360 due to some game related accolades and a major unrelated one in regards to ps3 development and logistical issues to do with price, etc.
Another harsh reality that you will have to ascertain is that there just isn't a market for xbox outside of perhaps Europe and America. What's also clear is that xbox have never ever tried to expand their horizons and appeal to those markets with games or literally anything else to offer that's a shred of something anyone would care about, suffice to say, the same lineup of games that I'm sure even the fanboys are rolling their eyes at isn'tgonna cut it. It's also painfully obvious to anyone but you than Microsoft have had zero ambition and with this hype about the hardware gettinv all the more obnoxious, despite being negligible, this talk of studios is nothing more than a consolation prize it seems. They're seemingly not willing to gamble on putting hyperbole and pride aside and invest/ commit to decent narrative driven games and have yet again out all the cards on hardwares. Yet again, that what the hugest mistake that lead to the xbox one x and xbox one brand overall flopping. The hyperbole of teraflops did not bolster sales on the one X or even close the gap that games could easiky fill and obviously the xbox 360 was the weaker system innrehards to hardware, but had gears and halo going for it. Now it's time they let go and learn thw6or lesson, but they won't and never will seemingly. You'd be delusional not to see that. Power is but one aspect and not the be all and end all when you consoder the specs are neck and neck for all intents and purposes.
Finally, the whole point is giving your system a justification and Sony have VR, a slew if solid games and accolades , with a loyal fanbase to boot, on a system that primarily is exclusive regarding its huge library of games (I.e. tied to that system). These days it's all the more apparent that hardware isn't everything, especially when both target 4k 60 with ray tracing, but historically speaking, Microsoft are fighting an up hill battle between consoles being rendered obsolete due to PC and 90% of their games being on the Microsoft store with no VR to complete, with no apparent incentive to actually offer something to different markets and demographics while also proffering high quality AAA first party games as well as decent indie titles that aren't just copy and paste infantile games from the play store that outright suck.
@Cybrshrk Ì
Nothing has also never come close to xbox's level of waffling with franchises, say, maybe aside from COD and Assassins creed. So that same old remark is bs to me and obviously obtuse.
@azoreseuropa it won't yellow because it's not a super Nintendo. The Xbox 360 was white and unless you smoke in your home you won't have to worry about anything turning yellow unless of course you leave it in the sun, but then it states in the owners manual to never leave any console in the sun or around any heat source.
@hkreasthull dude I'm sorry but you've been mislead, the XSX isn't a far superior console! In fact many game developers claim it's the PS5 that's the superior console. I'm Soo sick of the internet claiming xsx superiority and PS5 a failure based on nothing but antiquated TFLOP bias. Mark Cerny specifically specified that when you take the PS5 custom SSD, variable CPU and GPU into account that the performance of the PS5 shouldn't be compared with normal floating operation points as the go to standard of what's capable. People act like the PS5 GPU is far inferior due to its 10.28TFLOP theoretical peak performance vs the xsx 12TFLOP. It's ridiculous and amusing that people don't research both systems and realize the gap between the two will be less than the gap between the original PS4 & the original xbone. Happy gaming my friends 😁👍
@Zach_99 bro I feel you 💯!! Your in depth explanation is much appreciated, as you can see from my comments I completely agree!
@cali_kush70
Good to see people have some common sense these days. It never was really about power anyways, since a decent game making the most makes a world of difference and truly pushes the capabilities regardless. I mean, you're good despite what persuasion you come from, but true power enthusiasts opt for PCs and that in itself makes xbox obsolete. Anyways, I can't wait for the actual benchmarks to dismiss this bs about TF count, but I especially can't wait for the games Sony have lined up in the future. It's truly going to be a special system indeed, especially when you consider VR, too.
@Zach_99 dude the possibilities are limitless! You are absolutely correct though, micros6hss confirmed ALL first party games will be available on PC (the most powerful 'console' of ALL) this rendering the xsx useless IMO. Back to limitless possibilities though, the original PS4 was technically capable of 1.84 TFLOP while the PS5 has a GPU capable of 10.28TFLOP we're looking at a console that's at least 5 times as powerful as PS4! I don't believe in the TFLOP bias as it isn't representative of the full picture. Based on everything Mark Cerny revealed the PS5 has been built specifically for gaming! The CPU and GPU have been thoroughly optimized to squeeze out the most potential, it's literally the reason why Cerny told the audience to look past floating operation points. Sony has delivered some of the BEST games I've ever played period! The end of the PS3 generation showed what was truly capable with the last of us. This generation brought even more amazing games. God of War, infamous second son, killzone shadowfall, Spiderman, uncharted 4, Detroit becoming human, horizon zero Dawn, days gone & final fantasy 7 remake are ALL PlayStation exclusives that have pushed the boundaries of what was thought possible. Those are the games I've personally experienced this generation that's led me to have faith in Sony & their upcoming PS5. They know how to make consoles for devs who know how to create games for true gamers! Happy gaming my friend 😉✌️
@Bailey8two Makes sense. Thanks!
@Zach_99 judging by your massive tirade above theres little no point in even saying this but you missed the point of my original reply completely. I only got about half way through your walk down Sonys hall of fame before I finally gave up and saw you had no real point.
I never said anything about the dozen or more other games you mentioned here because they're weren't part nod your original post. I spoke to the ones you listed and pointed out that only one of those (horizon zero dawn) was new ip. You also then supposedly called me out by saying "what about herizon zero dawn?" like did you even read what I said?
Again I don't want to go back and forth with your and your encyclopedia of Sony highlights but the point I was making there was a time when Microsofts titles were the hottest in the planet and barely anyone cared about something like uncharted 1 or a failed "halo killer" like resistance fall of man.
The WHOLE point was TIMES CHANGE and even I partook of Sony and their great games this gen but I also wanted nothing to do with them a decade or so ago when it was (at the time) all about Microsoft and their games for me and many others. I don't hate Sony or their games amd think they've made plenty of classics this gen but it's also a lot of rereading (just like Microsoft) and it only take a few small mistakes to take the titles from "the new hotness" to "tired and played out".
Sony needs to not get comfortable (something Microsoft definitely did) and if the word on the street about last of us 2 is anything to go by they may already be slipping.
It's a quick slide from greatest to mediocre (heck Sony has done that multiple times in their life already) and Microsoft is taking extra care to watch where they step right now.
@Zach_99 also read a little more of you manifesto and 1. Multiple games throughout Sonys history were marketed as "halo killers" for over a decade Sony had 0 fps worth playing that wasnt multiplat. 2. Microsoft isn't even playing the "game" most of you Sony fanboys think it's still all about. They're a "service first" company moving towards a all access /streaming future with their hands in all the important tech of tomorrow (why do you think Sony has to partner with them for cloud?) and making "the #1 selling hardware worldwide" isn't even the play for them anymore they were never going to win that battle amd honestly I never cared if they did.
Microsoft is a US company and JP doesn't go for outside JP gaming never have and never will. But what micorosft can and has done in the past is pay attention to their target audience (and again not as of now but in the past) delivered them the best games for them in the best experience with the best infrastructure. I could care less if the rest of the world hates us US gamers and our way of gaming but I DON'T and that's all that matters. It just so happens that this gen Sony really delivered the games I wanted to play but I still find their software and networking to be abhorrent and would take a xbox live enabled Xbox one s over a ps4 and it's terrible outdated laggy software. I try to do one thing with a game running and the whole system can freeze for seconds at a time. And I have a pro even not a base I'd hate to see that.
What again I think your missing is that many of us gamers couldn't care less about a popularity contest and only care about 2 things - the games (obviously) and the experience delivered around those games by the hardware/software delivering them.
I give you 100% that Sony had the better games over the last 5 to 7 years hands down. I'll even give you that their upcoming games have a much better chance to be good (a chance remember they can still screw them up).
@Zach_99 But any day im giving the choice of where to play a game if it's not 100% exclusive to ps4 I AIN'T PLAYING IT THERE. I'll take a game on Xbox live and Microsoft OS any day over the same on Sony and psn.
It's why I an owner of a ps4 pro and 0 Xbox currently have 3 years of Xbox game pass ultimate paid for through 2022 and don't even subscribe to psn+. Microsoft is killing it in the software and services and that's where the real money is made not in having 5je #1 worldwide hardware sales (remember hardware barely has profits if not actual losses in some cases).
At the end of the day I don't care who "wins" I've never been that type of fanboy. I typically and historically have owned ALL major gaming consoles going back to snes and genesis (I've in fact owned all of them since) I also game on a pc that blows all of them including these new consoles out of the water so I don't need to justify my stance because it's the only position I can speak from.
I come from a middle ground owner of everything and supporter of just "greatness" and to me ever since Sony has been taking the stick to Microsoft in 2013 they've done nothing but make Microsoft become my favorite gaming company putting the gamer 1st and delivering a stellar service today.
The games haven't fully come (but there were still plenty to justify my game pass ultimate sub) and I'm sure more and better are to follow (I hope) but I can call it fair and unbiased as someone who plays (and pays) for all of em.
Microsoft is the one doing things that put us gamers 1st and with the best services out there today.
And yes I know I wrote a book too so thanks for getting me so worked up lol!
PS -
VR
I'm currently playing half life alyx (the first game I've ever said was a must play for vr) on a Microsoft headset whether you realize it or not Microsoft is waist deep in vr fine tuning it where it's meant to be tuned on pc. And when it's finally fully ready and some thing most should be looking at its only a software update away from being fully compatible with their gaming console.
They know it's something to being pursuing and they are just in a (again) much more consumer friendly (read not half baked) way.
@cali_kush70 a bunch of those "exclusives" and are or have already coming to pc so I wouldn't call them "exclusives" maybe "Sony console exclusives" but just like with Xbox they aren't a reason in and of themselves that you must own a ps4.
@Zach_99 and again it's stuff like this that I'm talking about. Who's got the most outdated / expensive boxes growing more and more outdated isn't the future.
https://www.theverge.com/platform/amp/2020/4/30/21242479/microsoft-xbox-game-pass-subscribers-phil-spencer-comments
I bet blockbuster and others like it didn't think it was a big deal either when Netflix started shipping dvds at a flat monthly fee or when they started streaming some real "basic and boring" streaming content.
Like I've been saying TIMES CHANGE and what maybe your weren't around for is the top dawg doesn't ALWAYS stay on top.
If you've only been gaming since Sony you might not understand that but I've been around a long time and I've seen the "new hotness" come and go. The one thing I'm always about is what's coming up next...
I stay out in front it's why I been ray tracing since 2018 and Netflix user long before they even had an ad to entice you to join.
I watch the world and I know when something game changing is mounting.
@Cybrshrk
well, erm, like, if you were totally paying attention, then you might have ascertained the part where I basically brought a consensus and sales into the mix where your whole 'Sony isn't really just blowing up with new original ip either is all I'm saying.' was concerned, as they clearly are, regardless of what you deem "new", and even if that fails to count for the aforementioned titles you omitted from your retort. Regardless, Sony still have the upper hand already over anything xbox have now or in the future in regards to franchises (plural) and foreseeable IPs, obviously accounting for any new games along the way, unless they change tactic; change is goods you concede- and we already know Sony have games in the pipeline verus like, what, halo? not exactly surprising and just a little tired like the franchise at this point, but I digress.
what isn't also surprising is that Sony are committed to narrative-focused, single player games and what is essentially focused on a broad, mature audience opposed to a demographic that seemingly can't go 5 seconds without an explosion and is attention deficient. You can also find Sony going on record to state that games always come first and, judging by history and their success, it isn't an-unfair statement to say that Games have had a huge impact and IS a factor regardless of your blatant gymnastics.
If you also extended your limited attention span to the matter at hand, then you might have ascertained that two games surpassing 10 million each with a slew of awards and revenue is actual where the money is (as a very limited example for sake of argument) verus scummy services that should never be taken seriously, and was only introduced as damage control. non of that should ever sideline honest sales and healthy competition that's evidently been lacking. need I remind you why ps4 sold 108 million in the first place? hint: Microsoft have historically had hit or miss software, the same lineup of games and they certainly didn't win anyone with windows 8, so nice try.
@Cybrshrk
Secondly, regarding those other titles, I have very clearly mentioned them for the sake of transparency as a retort to a very obtuse argument with a very anecdotal angle, that is frankly irrelevant. and so what of those massive titles that have had exactly no competition in the ways of xbox growing some incentive and actually giving their system a shred of justification regarding its existence? Again, the last time I checked such IPs honestly rake in the big bucks and show sony care about games and gamers, yet another thing the big coperate conglomerate (Microsoft) fails to account for in giving most what they want: something new.
The fact of the matter is Sony's huge success is attributed to something and you have failed to do is connect the dots. after-all, at least going by the figures, it wouldn't be a surprise GOW contributed to console sales with more than 10 thousand games and is a classic example of how games like Horizon, GOW, Spiderman, The last of us, etc. are so important because exclusive games are in symbiance with the system sucess, thus those sales equate to potential system sales, thus 108 million consoles doesn't seem like some wild coincidence now does it?
Thirdly, you are making no point when consistency builds legitimacy and thus consumer trust, and then success. What is interesting is how the success of Sony is easily attributed to their ability to learn from mistakes and develop. this gen saw xbox pull two 180s on their tactics and none of them learned anything from each blunder, nor did it significantly turn sales or profits around. Sure, xbox may have acclaimed to "most powerful" this and "most powerful" that, but did that change anything? ***** NO! xbox practically stumbled out the gate with a slew of anti-consumer bs, no discernable games to compete with the likes of the order, knack, infamous and killzone, etc. and that gap only grew as the bs became all the more transparent with xbox seemingly giving up and appearing comparatively less ambitious with flops like rize, which was frankly the most pathetic and laziest game I have ever played from a first party studio.
xbox clearly aren't committed to the primary focus of games and games first, but the fact of the matter is that hardware did not turn it around this gen, and with hardware so negligible this time round they need consistency, legitimacy and trust in regard to software and games, because that is the stakes Sony plays with thus far has led to the hands down victory with virtually no resistance where it counts and sales will only partly expose this truth. Again, Sony didn't have a win handed to them for better hardware out the gate, but achieved that through the honest ambition of what gamers want good games and secondary bonus of having a reason to buy and be loyal to their system. despite the fact xbox very much is obsolete when PC is factored in, there has been ample time to push first party games and push resources into IPs and game development, instead of placing all their cards on the one X.
@Cybrshrk
I also have no idea how many times I have to reiterate this for it to stick, but Halo debuted on the original xbox and ever since they have coasted on that one franchise, so evidently 'same old' still is same old and waffling to boot. like how many games in is Halo now? what's even more laughable is that none of them recently managed to garner any significant praise opposed to an almost universal sigh after being let down (again), just like gears did (again). time to let go. it's also hilarious how you seem to think titles like uncharted are inherently same old when there has been significant changes not only graphically but in regards to the narrative, with GOW being a testament to turning things around, so to speak. it wouldn't be so bad if existing franchises just concluded bu they're painfully mismanaged it cant go unnoticed and it is just wearing thin at this point.
lastly, what does TLOU2 have to anything, despite the fact exactly no consumer has played it and you're basing that on rumours, that still has nothin on what xbox have been coasting on for the best part of a decade now. so what if the last of us doesn't live up to expectations? if isn't their first and wont be their last successful title and that's the beauty of the aforementioned brand trust and consistency. that is the point you fail to understand.
@Zach_99 is right and what you're too thick to get is both brands have "coasted" on franchises plenty and though halo has been down the last couple times it was up for a while too and just like with your God of War mention games that start high and fall can have a resurgence and which after they can and do fall again sometimes.
It's all uos and downs for decades now. But I know you were probably still suckling on your mom (born in 99?) when the Xbox came to be but for the better part of a decade from there the games that were making the news and crushing records were typically on Xbox or Xbox focused. Sony obviously was the one people were talking about before that and they became the one people talked about after...
Again maybe a little slower.....
Success comes in waves and if you think that just because you did in the past you'll Co tin to do so in the future....
You will fail to live up to your potential!
I'm no fortune teller I can't see the future but what I can do is judge where platforms are focused and where they are headed Sony is marching down that same worn down road Microsoft is flying a freaking spaceship in comparison.
I want to support the company that is forward thinking and the one focused on ME, the gamer!
Everything Microsoft does is for us Sony only joins in if forced.
Sony doesn't put you first or me first or anyone but Sony. Microsoft just wants us all the have the best experiences we can wherever that is. And I'm all about that.
I'll probably never own and Xbox series x... You know why? Cause Microsoft won't force me to buy one to participate. They'll let me take my much more powerful pc and use that to basically do anything some locked down box could ever do. And because of this I'm all paid up for 3 YEARS ($180) for their game pass ultimate service. I'd be willing to give Sony something similar but sadly they arent going to do that they are going to force me to spend another $500+ this year on a box I'll play maybe 2-3 games a year on. For the life of my ps4/pro it's been about the same (or even less) and at the end of my time with the generation I'm not sure if it was worth it. The games were good but is it worth (2) console purchases plus them dragging me on to psn when I actually wanted to play the 1 or 2 titles I'd play that year?
Ive played maybe what 6 or 7 "exclusives" that were even worth playing in the whole generation. Say 10 games over 7 years at $60 a game ($600)+ they got atleast 2 years of psn out of me ($100)+ the consoles themselves ($400)+($500)
$1600+ to play 10 games
Even if they were really good (and some definitely were) I don't know if it's really justified.
Off my "investment" in game pass ultimate I've had the chance to play as many games (maybe more) and truth be told I had as much fun or more with many of them...
Forza horizon 3 and 4 both great fun with my friends (they also got to jump on and play for like $1 trials)
Gears of War 4 (good) for and 5 (great)
Outerworlds (very solid)
Metro exodus (excellent entry)
Cuphead (way different than my normal tough as nails but a lot of fun)
@Zach_99 Their are a lot more I can't think of but I know I spent more time with these titles than the one and done nature of many of the Sony games I played.
They were literally a weekend or 3 day affair amd then it was over I might as well have sold the game off (if I actually could being digital makes that impossible).
I started to wisen up towards the of this gen and stopped buying digital because of this and now I have actually played the last couple games (death stranding final fantasy vii) on disc just so I could sell em off when I was done.
Sony does amazing single player one and done stories but other than that I can't find any reason to use them (like I literally don't even use their controller when playing ps4, I use an Xbox elite) and unlike Microsoft who has found ways to make a pc focused guy like me pay attention Sony has been stubborn the whole time (and only most recently have they started to open up some which is great).
I just need them to do more and until they do ill always vote Microsoft.
Once I can happily support both platforms through their respective platforms but play my games on my much better hardware I'll keep singing the praises of Microsoft.
. Once they do actually turn it around and deliver top notch game of the year type games that no one can deny well.... It's gonna be a bad day to be stuck in the past Sony.
@Cybrshrk @CybrshrkInteresting you mention a ‘manifesto’ but the rest of the consumers with a brain actualy despise predatory services, and the gaming industry as a whole has been objected to the notion of loot boxes or "games a service” morally and legally--firstly because they suck, but secondly because they’re scummy. If you’re honestly trying to tell me that an empire, so to speak, built around this principle is stable then you have another thing coming. Further, just because a brand has money does not mean they are also popular or “playing" at all. To me this screamed cop out from day one because xbox had and has nothing to offer over the slew of titles Sony have published and garnered accolades from.
What epitomises this morally is the fact xbox have no regard for whether they should be providing such a service that effectively means you own nothin all for the small fee of your soul in shilling out for the same game every month. Why would or should I care about paying 10 bucks every month for a game I cannot access without a subscription? Further, why would or should I pay money for games I may not care about and gamble? Seems very much like a system designed to lock you in whereby the consumer gains nothing in the end. The money end from it only tells me that consumer ignorance and stupidity goes hand in hand with predatory services when people ultimately pay exuberant prices for nothing in return. Ultimately you end up with nothing while having payed 840 bucks over the span of a console generation on a bs service. What’s even more legible is by the next time the other console generation comes around you’ll be paying twice and twice as much for the same game which turned the whole backwards compatibility on its head.
By your logic your saying it’s ok as long as they earn money, despite capitalising off of consumers getting shafted. By that logic Konami is the old guy because they said ***** gaming and instantly decided gambling was more profitable. Use your brain, that is the world where gaming stagnates and dies. All this can be avoided if on brand pulls their finger out and has some incentive to honestly compete with games and not break even squeezing money from the lowest common denominator of gamer.
@Zach_99 as far as power talk? It was Sony who started throwing tflops around and talking about "real" HD gaming and such during the early days of ps4/Xbox one. It's funny to see how NOW they as well as fanboys like yourselves want to act like a it doesn't get you real butt hurt to keep hearing about how you're not the most powerful next gen console.
I had avoided even discussing these numbers because I know it's really arbitrary but to hear some fan boy start throwing around claims of xbox trying to claim some "superiority" title when it was you and your company who started the talk of such things to begin with... It's easy to brag about something that doesn't really matter THAT much when you know you'll come out on top anyway but it stings when it's the other way around and why so many of you are determined to try and dispell the thought completely (what?before it ACTUALLY has an influence?) lol
@Zach_99 1 Ryse wasn't 1st party 2. Knack
Also I'm not going to continue going back and forth with a kid like yourself who has only grown up in a world where Sony is and has always been THE console (you know nothing of the real "console wars" that happened before you left your daddy's... Ahm)
Like they say those that forget history are doomed to repeat it.
And Darwin tells us those who fail to adapt are made irrelevant and eventually extinct.
Ask commodore atari 3DO and Sega is (what's left of them) plus many many more or what's left of them.
But no you keep being a blind fanboy and walk right off that ledge with em we know you'd never dare question when they tell you to.
@Zach_99 Zach my boy I'm afraid to tell you this hit you "own" nothing when it comes to your games and your ability to access use them is directly tied to services that they can for any reason deny you at any time your false comfort in "owning" a game is just a scam to make you comfortable in giving over your money.
I myself rather take my gut punch from someone who just straight up tells me instead of trying to hide it behind some false idea of ownership.
I said before I WISH I COULD HAVE PAID A FRACTION OF THE COST AND ONLY HAD ACCESS TO THE GAMES FOR THE WEEKEND OR SO I WAS ACTUALLY PLAYING IT!
$1 to play forza horizon 3 sure! $2 dollars to learn sea of thieves isn't for me? Better than paying $60! Getting all the games I mentioned before plus a dozen or so more I've played all for the flat $180 I paid for game pass for 3 years (not to mention I get every upcoming Xbox series x game included in that til October 2022)
Um hell yea! Best deal ever!
I don't own my games you don't own your games at this point I'm all passed the idea of trying to pretend like I do.
It why I refuse to buy digital on Playstation now it's a waste of money for something I could still lose in a moment of Sony denies my access to my account (which is probably now almost as old as you and has 100+ games from over 15 years)
It's not mine it's Sonys and they let me have access. That's it!
I'd rather give 10% of the same money to Microsoft and get just as much (if not more out of their games) because again Sonys games are basically 1 weekend or so games where at least with Microsoft titles I've been hooked on it was more like a month or 2 with friends (depending on how long their trial was for).
Microsofts services "users" isn't limited to just their console owners and soon enough the measure of success won't be with how many consoles youve sold but how many people are part of your ecosystem.
You saw the article I linked you over 10 million xbox game pass members and growing that's at least 50 million a month or 1.2 billion a year and it's just going to keep going up and the more that join the more they make.
It's like a gym membership many pay only some use and gym gets to keep the money. The people who go benefit just fine and the people who don't well they at least know they have the option and to many that's enough to make or worth paying for.
Same with Netflix and I can still remember the day when they had just hit 1 million users and Microsoft and game pass is already at 10 million.
Imagine where they'll be in a decade.
2010 Netflix 7.7 million
2020 Netflix 167 million
There's also almost 1 billion windows 10 users and each and everyone is just a couple clicks from being a paid Xbox services member.
@Cybrshrk until said exclusives come to PC they ARE the reason for owning a PS4. Horizon zero Dawn is ONLY 1 of many new IP that have come to PS4. It's ALL about the games though, I'm a gamer period. Yes I am partial to Sony PlayStation as I got my first gaming console (PSone) at age 5 in 1996. That being said I've also owned every single Xbox since the original. In this current generation I owned a xbone as well as the Xbox one x. After playing Halo, gears of War, sunset overdrive, quantum break, Forza & dead rising I sold my Xbox & have focused solely on my PlayStation 4 pro. While I enjoyed the Microsoft ecosystem (one of the best ecosystems ever, something Microsoft is really good at nailing) there just wasn't enough to keep me invested. I do believe Microsoft has knocked it out the park with their game pass, they just didn't have the quality content that PS4 had. I will most likely pick up the series x console in 2022 cuz I'm a gamer who loves games ( 2022 is when Microsoft said they'd be releasing series X exclusives). I will be picking up PS5 day one simply because Sony PlayStation has given me some of the BEST gaming memories of my entire life. The last of us is one of my favorite games of ALL time as it helped me cope with the death of my grandfather who raised me. Sony has given me games that are truly iconic in every sense of the word, they're not just 'games' they're experiences. Days Gone (new IP) was phenomenal as it's location setting was literally my backyard, horizon zero Dawn (new IP) was breathtaking, Until Dawn (new IP) played like a horror movie, Concrete Genie (new IP) was an enchanting experience, God of War 2018 was spectacular, The Order: 1886 (new IP) was a creative adventure, Bloodborne (new IP) is one of the most frustratingly awesome games I've ever played, Spiderman (new IP) was shockingly epic, infamous second son was unadulterated fun, uncharted 4 took the series to new heights, ratchet and clank was spot on like a movie, Knack (new IP) 2 was my little brother favorite game, Detroit becoming human (new IP) was a total mind F*** lol point being these games have definitely defined the PS4 era of gaming & have kept me coming back for more! We've got the last of us part 2 & ghost of tsushima coming soon which will keep me going until PS5 is released lol. Happy gaming my friends 😉💨✌️
@Zach_99 bruh my hat goes off to you my friend, I've read this entire conversation & even chimed in with my own bit of 2 cents. You have specified in great detail why a huge conglomerate like Microsoft with massive amounts of cash has failed to even crack a dent in the PS4 massive success this generation. Sony has put games first, not services, not 'one' console that does a little bit of everything (the original Xbox 'one' motto) but has focused SOLELY on providing PS4 owners with some of the BEST games ever created. They've also offered a bunch of new IP (check my response to @cybershrk) as well as reinvigorated old IP. Sony will continue this 'gaming first' trend come next generation, this was more than evident during their GDC presentation. Happy gaming 😉💨✌️
