We've spoken time and time again about the ludicrous install size of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on PlayStation 4, and things aren't about to get any better. After nearing 200GB in overall size, users will today have to download a mandatory 21.615GB update in order to continue playing the game. That's bigger than some entire games on PS4! But to be fair, at least this time around the patch contains some new, worthwhile content.
For Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, players can look forward to playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's Hardhat map and a new Gunfight arena named Aisle 9. Hardhat is a "haven for close quarters, fast-paced, and frenetic combat, but also features some longer sightlines, so a variety of loadout types can find success."
Meanwhile, the Gulag in Call of Duty: Warzone is seeing some new additions. You now have the chance of randomly being given an SMG or assault rifle to battle your opponent with. These include the AK-47, M13, Kilo 141, Ram-7, Striker 45, and more. When you're not sitting around waiting for a match to begin, out on the battlefield you'll be able to find a new item known as the Armor Box. This functions in the same way that a Munitions Box does -- placable on the ground so that your team can recover armour pieces before or after a shootout. They're bought from Buy Stations or sourced from general loot and supply boxes.
Finally, a new playlist called Classic Battle Royale has been added to the rotation. "This mode strips down Battle Royale and features no Buy Stations, no Contracts, and no Gulag. If you’re out, you’re out. Survive the enemies and the ever-collapsing circle to be the last team standing." If you've ever been put off by Warzone's respawning mechanics, this sounds like the mode for you.
Are you still playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare? Worry about the size of this patch in the comments below.

No! I'm not gonna download this update. I'm removing this game because of how ridiculous it is.
The game takes up too much space (200GB) and isn't even efficient. The updates make minor changes and are as big as an entire game. I'm done with this game.
Never coming back to it.
I deleted the game.
I’m done with MW. Too Many new games coming out and the size of this is ridiculous, why is it so large.
@Boucho11
It's part of Activisions plan to hog everyone's drive to stop other games being played and keep people on as it's really a GaaS.
For some the idea of deleting 200GB scares them as IF they do decide they want to play it again then 200GB is a huge download timewise and also for those with capped download.
So people keep it on there, don't have space for anything else and just keep playing Cod, especially those with base PS4 and 500GB drive.
Pretty cold strategy isn't it!
Thats over half of a 500GB PS4 lol. (Only about 400GB is accessible to the user)
Don't love the game enough to warrant that much space.
@Futureshark
Thats bloody brilliant! I hadnt thought of it like that😧
One step closer to uninstalling!
why the hell does a CoD game need to be that big
someone at Activision needs to learnt to optimise me thinks
Can you uninstall warzone?
How many storage do I need for the single player option only? I plan to buy it if there's discount but I only have maybe about 200GB on my ps4 hdd
@Futureshark or you could just buy a hard drive...
@KarmaGotYou
well of course you and me know that, but little Timmy down the road might not have the disposable income to upgrade the base PS4 he got for his birthday last year, or might not even know about how to upgrade it as he's between 12 & 16, a core demographic for CoD service users.
I'm afraid it's an example of cynical methods to monopolise a market.
I'll take my tinfoil hat off now.
Adding up the amount of money I have spent on Call of Duty games, it is well over £1000 with add ons, etc. They are just taking the micky. They clearly do not have the first thought for customers. I will be deleting and never buying another product of theirs again.
The company is a shambles
@Futureshark my friend and I having been joking about this for a while. Everytime an update comes out we are like "one step closer to total ps4 storage supremacy" lol
Deleted the game off the external harddrive I bought. I have the space to keep it but the file size is just stupid and I really don't care for how Activision has handled the updates. Single player campaign was good enough that I played it a few times and enjoyed it, now that I'm done with that, time to move on. Would've kept it installed but this thing is going to reach 400 GB by the time it's done.
okay that's it. havent played it in a while so that means it's a goner.
playing and loving
Not a gigantic update. COD WWII is the better multiplayer.
You know for less then 200gb you can have The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima on your HDD...just saying.
Downloading it for the hell of it. Not sure why my ps4 doesn't automatically download certain updates anymore nor does it even add updates if I install a new game it waits till its installed then you click the game then it says added to downloads the update it seems slow to add them.
This is crazy... I have a 500GB PS4 so imagine. plus I am still having issues installing the co-op. 🤦🏽♂️
I dont even play warzone and can't delete it. And to think I spent over $200 because I bought the dark edition pack.
It's like they're trying to make this the last COD I buy.
