Following on from the gameplay blowout for Ghost of Tsushima, players have been wondering just how tough the game is. In recent interviews, developer Sucker Punch has gone on record saying that combat isn't easy, and that if you're not careful, you can be cut down very, very quickly. During the 18 minute State of Play video, we see protagonist Jin dispatch enemies with just one or two slashes -- but it's fair to assume that each attack has to be precise.
Fortunately, it sounds like the PlayStation 4 exclusive is still aiming to accommodate everyone, whether you're a hardcore samurai enthusiast or not. Speaking to The Washington Post, creative director Jason Connell reconfirms that the game has difficulty options. Indeed, difficulty settings were originally mentioned back in 2018, after the title was first revealed -- but it's nice to know that they haven't been abandoned.
"So, first of all, we do have difficulty. If the game is too easy and you want it to be a much more challenging experience, you can take it up a notch. If you find the game is a little too hard, you can take it down. Again, this is an effort to try to get as many players as possible," says Connell.
Of course, even with options, difficulty can still be a tricky balancing act. Connell continues: "It can’t be so hard that you give up in the first 15 minutes. That would be very frustrating for a lot of people who have a lot to gain from playing the game because they love this medium or this genre. But it also can’t be so easy that there’s no challenge to some of our biggest, most hardcore fans."

Good, every game should have difficulty option
They should remake infamous 1 & 2 cause they haven't done anything worthwhile since then.
Depends how they're implemented for me.
If the harder difficulties just involve articifically raising enemies hit points and lowering your own health so it's unbalanced like most games do then it's not such a positive story imo
@JorbNorb wait what?!
A game that is ridiculously rock hard where you die every few seconds is not for me. Every game should have difficulty options on it so you can choose to use them or not.
Gimme dat sweet hard mode
@AdamNovice I know. Words fail me sometimes.
A sensible thing to do. Yet, there is something about a "universal experience" like Sekiro. Having said that, i have nothing against their decision to make the game more inclusive. Godspeed.
New game plus would be nice given how the Infamous series lacked any kind of replayability.
Now don't tie any difficulty to trophies and we have a winner.
I'll play on ultra easy and compare it to dark souls, that should piss off a few people
@ankehuber I think you miss the point about trophies. What's the point if there's no challenge to earn them? Makes no sense at all not having trophies for difficult settings.
Good, easy mode it is.
@vhsodre I don't mind playing on harder or normal difficulties but some games have it for insane difficulties and usually tied to playing it a second time. I get your point the trophies are usually there for the challenge but sometimes they're a little silly.
This sounds perfect. To emphasize stealth and make battles really exciting I might even crank this up to hard. This is gonna be such a good game. Adding a real thrill to each fight and not being a one-man army sounds who fight a whole camp on alert at once sounds great.
As long as the game has a decent difficulty balance I’m in.
Anything like Dark souls or Sekiro I’m not interested as my tolerance level have shrunk in age😂😂
Mind you did get to the last boss n Dark Souls 3 and near the end in Bloodborne so I’m doing something right👍😁😁
@ankehuber and you know they will anyway so you can't really win 🙄🙄
@Stonecold
Say Hello To 𝕭𝖑𝖔𝖔𝖉𝖇𝖔𝖗𝖓𝖊 😂
Sekiro cough
Of course it would have difficulty options. They want to go as mainstream as possible. I think there’s a checkbox for all Sony first party studios that goes like “Difficulty options” when they develop a game. No way it’ll be like Ni-Oh or Sekiro.
@ankehuber based random trophies are silly. Based skill's are not. Makes no sense people getting platinum trophies with minimum effort. That's why they're also known as achievements, so you have to achieve something to earn them. On the other hand, I totally against platinum trophies attached to online trophies since servers don't work indefinitely.
