Sony has revealed a new branding for its exclusive games lineup, which will launch alongside the PlayStation 5. All exclusive games will now be branded under the 'PlayStation Studios' umbrella, which sounds rather slick and snappy.
PlayStation Studios even has its own opening animation, which will play whenever you boot up a first party release. It features glimpses of various exclusive titles, including Uncharted, Horizon, Ratchet & Clank, God of War, The Last of Us, and LittleBigPlanet. You can watch the 17 second clip in the video that we've embedded above, although it will change depending on the game or franchise it's being used to promote.
The new branding will be used on the PlayStation 4, although it's being introduced too late for The Last of Us: Part II and Ghost of Tsushima. It'll also feature on other platforms, such as MLB The Show 21, which will launch on Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X, as well as PS5.
Speaking with Games Industry.biz, executive Eric Lempel said that he hopes consumers will see the branding and associate it with the "quality games they've come to expect from [Sony]". It'll appear in trailers, on box art, and more.

Very nice, I like it a lot. Giving off major Marvel Studios vibes
Sony Interactive Universe.
I'm just gonna leave this here...

Good to see Ratchet and Clank included. Hopefully hearing something soon about a new one.
Honestly, I prefer the simple "Sony Interactive Entertainment presents" title card. Always make me smile a little when I see it before one of their big exclusives.
This new thing is okay, I guess.
Sony Interactive Entertainment Presents is iconic, but this is pretty hype. Very Marvel-esque.
I feel like they did this to differentiate themselves from microsoft again since microsoft started using a very similar black and white "microsoft studios" opener on their first party games.
I like this and think it's pretty sick.
That's snazzy. Although why do all the characters (except perhaps Sackboy) look like they're in some sort of distress?
Will the PlayStation Studios logo be on the front to replace the 'only on playstation' logo ?
I liked it, one little thing is they could include more iconic IPs that they own, but maybe they are waiting to update it when they make something new with them (hopeful thinking).
Welcome to the PlayStation cinematic universe!
@lacerz Well how would you feel being trapped in a shape
@WanderingHunter oh I like this
@AdamNovice
Very good point...I'm getting Superman 2 vibes.
I think they have been quiet because of Ghosts and TLoU2. Wouldnt wanna steal the thunder. But damn- Im getting them both Sony!!! Blow the lid off already lol
They should've done this years ago, I love it.
I like this a lot! Snappy and easy to remember, it'll (hopefully) quickly become associated with some very high quality 1st party exclusives that can all be referred to under this umbrella!
Interesting, this to me sounds like more PC ports (Microsoft changing Microsoft Studios to Xbox Game Studios was because of everything coming to PC).
Speculation aside, the animation looks cool.
@TrueAssassin86x
Actually, Microsoft copied Sony's formatting. Sony just made Microsoft's new studio logo look mid-2000s.
Looks very sleek, Like it a lot!
@lacerz So by that logic, they will break out and look to get revenge on who wronged them. I'm guessing Knack.
Everyone is talking about copying Marvel Studios or Xbox Game Studios, but this is almost identical to the "Playstation Originals" logo from the 2016 Ratchet & Clank movie.

@WanderingHunter difference is people actually care about these games.
@Orpheus79V Wow, that's an incredible spot!
Thank you Sony! At least some cool news for us Playstationers.
Question: is this really for games only?, I mean, couldn't it be for the upcoming movies and tv-series too?
That's great, can't wait to see their games on ps5 😃
@WanderingHunter Nearly nobody care about those though 😛
It makes sense. Not really what I had in mind when I said I feel something was about to happen though haha
I love it! Very sleek and classy
@Zeke68 It could, yeah. PlayStation Studios as a brand is for games, though; PlayStation Productions is the branding for TV/film.
First no loading time for games because of the fast ssd and then they slap a 17s opening on the games
Nice little rebrand to keep Sony in front of people's minds after the Xbox egg that was just laid. It's like watching a game of chess between both.
I usually don’t like change.
But this is hypeeee!
you're right it is rather slick and snappy
i like it
@get2sammyb I wonder if Sony will announce PS Productions will also change to PS Studios at some point. Given this animation's heritage as a movie intro, I could see it being used there also. It would explain why they've dusted off an old animation from a film that flopped.
@Murray I would expect this to be skippable.
This is kinda interesting, because they ditched the old SIE logo a while ago. It used to be on their boxes, but with PS4 they opted to showcase the developer instead of a PS brand. So the only logo you'll on God of War's box art is that of Santa Monica Studios. I always saw that as honouring their developers over the global brand, and I kinda liked that. I'm not sure if this will replace that or not. Just like how every Nintendo game says ''Nintendo'' without mention of the studio that developed it.
@Orpheus79V
Yeah, probably we end like with starting up teso.
playing sony intro --> skip
playing studio intro --> skip
playing game intro --> skip
Instead of directly into the game in 1s
Everything looks good but not another Littlebigplanet littlebigplanet 3 was like the end of the series as it felt like make your own levels. Astrobot rocks and should be on there.
@Paranoimia

"which will play whenever you boot up a first party release."
It seems it will be in the loading screen
@Murray Yeah, I deleted the comment as I missed that due to skim-reading. 🙄🤣👍
@TrueAssassin86x yes just like Xbox copied PlayStation with game streaming/remote play with xcloud
Wish it showed Legend of Dragoon, Echochrome, and Arc the Lad!
I guess it's because neither "Uncharted 4", nor "God of War" or "Horizon" or "Ratchet & Clank" could excite me like everyone else, that this leaves me cold.
Also, it's all grim, sad and/or shouting faces, even for the games where the heroes are usually rather light-hearted. What a fun little introduction to see before every game. Humour is for babies. Sony doesn't make games for babies.
Sure is slick. Not surprised we're getting some changes like this going into the PS5 generation.
@Jslade yup, wasn't sure if this was for games or movies because of that
The music has that old school PS1 vibe to it.
“'PlayStation Studios' umbrella, which sounds rather slick and snappy.”
Does it, though?

Marvel sony is that you.haha😁.i l💖ve it.it looks amazing.word up son
If I'll have to watch this instead of loading up a game in 1 sec on PS5 every time I'm starting a game I'm gonna be pissed as hell.
@PCPS4XB. And x box. Copie the share button which the new x box controller gonna have.word up son
Bits of me tingled that I didn't know I had...
@lacerz that's basically what they all are, no? Haha... Kratos: MF'ing angry, Aloy: pretty stressed, Ellie: I'd say pretty distressed as she's (presumably) about to be shot at or eaten. Sackboy: just vibing, like he do
Ooooh that looked very nice. Sounded great too
Hyped! Letting us know ahead of time
It means nothing to me.
Eh, it’s ok.
I just hope I can skip it.
Okay 🙄, but where is the roadmap for a games reveal?? So tired of Sony thinking this minor stuff is the news we want.
I see Ratchet and Clank there! Gimme a new game 😬
I actually really like this. It does remind me of the Marvel thing, but I always liked that, too, because it was a bit of connective tissue present in all the movies. The only complaint that I have is that I wish it was slightly longer and incorporated more characters - mainly PaRappa because he rules - but other than that I love it.
This works with Marvel because the movies are all part of the same universe. And while the xbox and PS ones look cool, I'm going to get very sick of them at the beginning of every 1st party game. I'm not sure why I need to be reminded of a dozen other game franchises not related to the one I'm currently trying to play.
I think I just prefer the simple "Game studios"/publisher logo before you get the dev logo and title card.
Kratos looks pretty mad he’s floating around. Someone tell him it’s just an intro.
@Murray good point, this needs to be something you can skip through, or only locked the first time you boot up.
First thing I thought was how this looks like something you'd see at the start of a modern film release... which is great, but you rarely start the same film again and again... and again.
feels like a copy of the marvel and dc logo animation. maybe it is the music more than anything that gives me this impression — it is not fitting of sony's games to use a generic movie-like score. should have gone with a more synthy sound as a throwback to the ps1.
@Orpheus79V Congrats on birthing your own article.
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2020/05/random_sonys_playstation_studios_ident_actually_debuted_years_ago
breaks silence 2 massive PS4 games coming out soon? why does this site keep spinning a negative narrative they are still supporting the console we all own today which has to be respected!
on the topic it looks fine kind of a cool marvel style intro.
@Grindagger Yeah, but only the last part when the PS logo appears, it sounds a bit like the original PSX logo sound.
The first part with the glimpses sound like a generic Marvel movie intro.
@WanderingHunter that goes on far too long is that because of the Xbox’s slower SSD 🤣
that is slick. Come on Sony deliver the goods now, maybe all this wait gonna be something amazing, well thats what I hope as they are quiet.
@WanderingHunter 🤣🤣🤣🤣
They broke even more silence with a ghost of Tsushima 18min gameplay announcement which is coming Thursday, sod next gen gameplay footage which Xbox SX failed to show I’m looking forward to this more than anything and unlike some haters I’m also looking forward to the last of us part 2.
Very nice how they show it's new "brand" with disabled comments and like counter.
Arrogant Sony is back, baby. No critique, no feedback allow.
Yeeeeaa, thats slick. The sound kinda reminds me of the ps2 boot up
Very nice. I can't wait!
I watched it closely about ten times and only thing that comes to my mind is "sorrow" 😞 Why they all are so unhappy? Should they depict parents "You have bought that game anyway?" 😠 .... very confusing... sad, sorrow, doom, decay... I'm shocked and confused about it.
Awesome, can't wait to see changes in the opening per game/genre
I thought they meant a PS Movie studio Nice to see R&C in there tho PLEASE GOD BRING ME A PS5 R&C NEW GAME!!!
Cool and pretty interesting that it'll be different depending on the game, it'll be a nice detail to look out for each time you play an exclusive title. Sony has the best exclusives hands down and I think it can only get better!
@get2sammyb Nice! Would look even better with Blasto and Rosco McQueen in the mix!
It’s Marvel-ous. At least that’s what it reminded me of—the Marvel movie intro. Hopefully the development studios will continue to remain autonomous moving forward. Ultimately, it’s the dynamism and personality of each studio and its employees that have brought Sony to where it is today. Since each developer has its own unique strengths and identity, it’d be a real shame to see Naughty Dog, Bend, Polyphony Digital, Insomnia, Sucker Punch, et al., lessened or cheapened by a move like this.
Very nice that looks awesome, i really like that.
