Not content with just a gameplay preview of Cyberpunk 2077 during its Night City Wire livestream, CD Projekt Red also announced that a Cyberpunk anime in the works. Titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, it's being produced by Studio Trigger, the Japanese company behind Kill la Kill, and partly behind Darling in the Franxx, and SSSS. Gridman.
Given the talent, this is sure to be treat for the eyes -- but it's still a long way off. Edgerunners is targeting a 2022 release on Netflix, and it'll consist of ten episodes.
The official description reads: "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner -- a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk."

Very cool Netflix... but where is my Yakuza anime?
Wonderful. Trigger is a great choice, I do really like Kill la Kill and Little Witch Academia. I'm very excited for this.
Would not have expected this. And it's an actual anine produced by Trigger as opposed to the Castlevania "anime". Hopefully it's cool, I like Trigger's stuff.
Where's the trailer? I though the video is the trailer for the anime
Interesting. Trigger's over-the-top and excessively stylized work doesn't seem like it'd be a good fit for this grounded, complex sci-fi universe, but I'll happily check it out all the same.
Trigger aren’t a bad studio, not really my kinda stuff though. Kill la Kill is literally Sonic Adventure 2 though, I’ll insist that until I die, THE PLOT IS IDENTICAL!!
I enjoy Studio Triggers work, so this should be a treat on the eyes.
production i.g. would have been far more fitting for the subject matter. i mean, ghost in the shell was cyberpunk before cyberpunk was popular and they singlehandedly helped establish the look of the genre. trigger on the other hand has a very stylized and juvenile look with its art direction — it has its place of course, but doesn't scream mature cyberpunk story to me.
@tameshiyaku What are you talking about? Since when there was an Yakuza anime to being with? Are you that dense?
This sounds awesome!
I like how involved with games Studio Trigger has been as of late, what with this and Shantae 5 in a few months.
@nessisonett I've never thought that until now
@Custom1991 Didn't understand your post, but it's just wishful thinking man, relax.
@tameshiyaku Oh. I thought you were actually thinking about what you meant.
Very cool... But, what is the point in having it ready about 2 years after your game? Seems kind of pointless to me. Even with dlc we will all be done with the product. Amazing pr idea, if you air the anime first to get people excited...
@Custom1991 just happy to see more video game based anime like this and castlevania, and thinking of other possibilities, while you are just being randomly hostile 😂
