Developer CD Projekt Red has made the difficult decision to delay the Cyberpunk 2077 Night City Wire livestream to 25th June in support of the current Black Lives Matter protests currently taking place across the US. Originally scheduled for next Thursday, we will now have to wait until the end of the month for more news, information, and gameplay concerning Cyberpunk 2077.
Announced in a tweet, CD Projekt Red said: "We decided to move Night City Wire to Jun 25th. We still look forward to sharing new information about CPā77, but more important discussions are happening right now and we want them to be heard. We wholeheartedly stand against racism, intolerance and violence. Black Lives Matter."
The publisher has joined Sony in pushing back its event so that more important voices can be heard during these difficult times. Cyberpunk 2077 is currently scheduled to launch on PlayStation 4 on 17th September 2020.

Same old jargon, like a well oiled mechanism. Just admit you're doing this to save face in the PR department as if you really cared for the movement you'd donate and take action instead of an empty statement.
@DonJorginho Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
@DonJorginho You hit the nail on the head.
This immediately came to mind.
Doing something is better than being silent. It may be empty words but it makes far more of a difference than saying nothing, that amounts to complicity.
@ShogunRok I get what you're saying, but there is a lot the most valuable developer in Europe could do to help this out, especially when they're only delaying the event to not get hate from the majority and retain the viewing numbers they desire.
@Constable_What Careful where you post that mate, Sony are sarcastically replying to everyone on their social medias right now and that picture seems to attract their admin like nothing else š
At this point anybody who doesn't follow this pattern is going to be chastised. Expect more to follow. I have made my opinion know on this subject so I rest my case.
@DonJorginho I totally agree with what you're saying, but it's also easy to forget that companies are made up of people too ā not just the bigwigs at the top. I'm sure a lot of people who work for CDPR, Sony, or any other company at this time have tried their best to help in some way.
We're living in a very cynical time (rightly so, for far too many), but I always think it's worth trying to find the positives in things like this. So the company might have its own interests in mind to some extent ā all companies do, that's why they're companies ā but if this ultimately helps spotlight the atrocities the world currently faces, then I think that's a good thing.
I don't really understand the backlash. Perhaps I've missed something. I don't see how they could have gone ahead with their planned promotion with the current situation, it would have seemed a bit tone-deaf.
I guess that not causing offence makes good business sense, but it doesn't necessarily follow that this is somehow a cynical move.
A shoe store was looted in Minnesota today, not a single pair of work boots were stolen.
@DonJorginho Oh yeah, I forgot that sarcastically replying to people using a meme doesn't count against their pledge to stand aside for important voices!
Seriously, if Sony is gonna do that they gotta commit to the bit. lol
@ShogunRok
Sony has been matching their employees donation
Fully expecting Sony cdpr and Activision to step up when the protests in Hong Kong begin again or if the Myanmar military start murdering the rohingya population again..
So is the gaming industry going to stop anytime there's a more important topic going on? Because I hate to break it, as fun as video games are they are superfluous, everyday there are many more important things that should be discussed happening around the world. Might as well just end the entire gaming industry if you are afraid that people will be offended by the timing of a video game trailer.
Only a couple weeks, not a huge deal
If I were a cynical person, I'd be tempted to say that this is a PR move.
Of course, if I were a cynical person, I'd also be tempted to say that the people calling this a PR move are using that as an excuse to undermine the Black Lives Matter movement.
Thank goodness I'm not a cynical person.
Nothing ever changes yeah goodwill to all men at Sony CD Projekt Red etc.............It does not stop the predudice Ethnic minoritys go through on a daily basis in a couple of months Sony and CD Projekt Red be counting profits as Minnesota pick up the pieces out of something looking like a war zone speaking of which what about Eritrea most locked out Country in the world their lifes matter do they not..................I will leave you with what these People go through every single day in America
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9SZlypyK-4
Aw! I was really excited for this. I guess I'll stay excited for a bit longer.
@TrueAssassin86x People will forget? Are you serious right now? Get your horrible, insultingly inane commentary off this site, āAll Lives Matterā is a disgusting attempt to undermine valid criticism of systemic oppression by creating a completely different narrative. Nobody should āstay out of thisā, blatant racism affects us all and staying silent is exactly how this remains unchecked for this many years.
@teknium_ Sony do not give a flying frog about The previously owned by the United Kingdom of Great Britain Island that is King Kong sorry Hong Kong............America has bounty
@TrueAssassin86x. No people will not forget.because its everywhere dog.still going on now.people will never forget.that white cop was a racist who kill a black man.and people wont forget that.word up son
@Neolit well said chief.word up son
@ShogunRok well said.
@nessisonett im proud of you man.that is a good way to put it.you win the comment of tbe day.word up son
This thing with devs getting involved with these politics is a joke. Sony, CDPR or any other dev that jumps on board with this doesnt give a ***** about Injustices with law enforcement. They just dont wont the attention off them. There supposed "intent" is laughable.
Just like with the Sony event, since the game doesnāt release anytime soon anyway, I donāt really care. Iāve seen enough of the game and itās preordered anyways.
But I canāt shake the feeling that only when something happens in America, people suddenly care to this kind of degree.
Iām trying to find out a bit how companies reacted last year during the Hong Kong protests with delays and such. Granted, the Cyberpunk show was a day before the protests as it appears.
This is a bit interesting though:
https://www.essentiallysports.com/twitter-calls-out-activision-for-double-standards-blizzard-hearthstone-esports-hong-kong-protest-news/
Iāll definitely keep a close eye from now on and hope these companies will act the same whenever something somewhere else happens.
Some people act as if the events are cancelled. They are only postponed for a few days. Is that too much of a sacrifice?
PushSquare should say "have a tantrum in the comments below'.
You do realize these are the same companies that are/have released titles such as Resident Evil 3 and The last of us Part II during a global pandemic right? Where was the morality then?
Just Sayin..
FFS.
Sorry if this offends all the Americans on here but this is getting a tad ridiculous now.
What do they think they'll achieve by this? You think America is going to change? We have heard this crap before, same with the regular school shootings.
Seriously, when we did become so weak?
@DonJorginho the truth hurts doesn't it
We're all America's bitch now.
Politics should have no place in videos games, so why the hell are gaming companies doing just that for brownie points while saying nothing meaningful because they don't want to offend anyone?
We are all in a much bigger crisis thatās affecting the whole world than whatās going on in just the U.S right now. People are dying world-wide on a daily basis because of Covid-19 but Iāve not been seeing statements like this of late š¤
The world is supposed to just carry on but when something like BLM protests (which I appreciate the cause they stand for btw) are making headline news, gaming companies expect the world to stop and make it everything about that political movement? How about just keeping video games out of it, stop trying to care and save face and just focus on your games/events because newsflash, thereās always some s*** going on in the world every day.
@nessisonett Where were all these companies when Ahmuad Arbery was brutally shot down? Or When Breonna Taylor was also shot down(at her own home to be exact)? Or when the Hong Kong protests were going down? Face it; these companies love to capitalize on a situation. Even at the expense of a dead man
I would rather have nothing than empty words from a faceless company that could care less about what happens to anyone.
@KratosMD @nessisonett First of all, I don't want to stir the pot. I agree with your sentiment; but I can also understand where he is coming from (irregardless of what the intent was).
I think this video sums it up pretty well:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2d2SzRZvsQ
I personally believe that as long as we keep using labels to define people (and even yourself), you also create the opportunity for people to make divisions; put other people in boxes; 'us' vs 'them'. And as long as that happens, any kind of discrimination will always crop up.
Treat people based on their own merits, not what they look like, or where they come from; but as a human being. That's all.
@TrueAssassin86x Do all lives matter? Sure ā but black lives are the one's being oppressed. Racism is still relevant, and it needs to end as soon as possible. And no, people will not forget. The friends and family members of George Floyd won't forget, and they won't let others forget. This is a time in history that won't be forgotten.
With that being said, I fear nothing will actually change from this. It might for a few months but you can't change the hearts of those who are already racist. It's sad, and I wish it wasn't the case, but it's true.
I'm all for equality. But I noticed that this company's youtube channels such as outside xbox, euro gamer, outside xtra, dice breaker, push Square don't have any black presenters.
@DonJorginho @Constable_What There are people behind the brand, when crisis arrives you can see how the top people behind the brand react. I think it's better to boost the movement rather than just staying silent.
I don't remember who said it but I agree to break this we have to see past us and them. If I see someone who needs help and they aren't an arse I help them no matter the color black, red, yellow,or white. It's not about who they are It's a person that needs help.
Now the statement about being forgotten as much as it is sad. It's happened now in my lifetime 4 or 5 times starting with Rodney King. All races have to see past skin and see human. This generation and its so called protests have been a joke but alas my generation had done no better. To be human is to be flawed. For those who don't know the other Officer was asian and stood with his hands in his pockets.
The 'whataboutism' responses being laid out in these comment threads are pathetic. You're just trying to sound wise and perceptive. You're not. And the vast majority of people are seeing right through it.
Could be worse though: I've only seen a couple of weaksauce attempts at the "BuT aLl LiVeS mAtTeR" response...
Let's just hope there won't be anything "worth to be heard" on september the 17th, or they might even delay release further more (LOL)
Some people here are clearly missing the point.
No one here (at least I damn well hope not) is saying that the movement BLM isn't important. What most people have a problem with (myself included) is that this has turned into a choo choo train of empty platitudes from corporate execs trying to raise their own profiles by bandwagoning.
These BS statements that are being thrown around (almost farcically at this point) undermines the actual severity of the real subject at hand, which requires serious societal readjustment, and a lot of funding for any real systemic injustice to be weeded out of the system for such a vast country.
The truth of the matter, is that these false statement do nothing but steal the limelight from the movement, and generate negativity and controversy amongst the ranks. Just look at the disagreements here between people on whether these are a good or bad thing.
Reading these comments and see all of you that try to spin this into a "Sony only does this for PR to score political points"-agenda of yours should consider using Google and check what happens in Seattle and Santa Monica for instance. You know these small american cities there these small Playstation studios called Guerilla Games* and Sony Santa Monica Studios is located in.
Don't you think Sony is actually protecting their staff working there and let them be home protecting their homes and families instead of making them go to some studio to make games reveal ?
We can wait a week or two but this is a really bad and dangerous situation in many cities in America and like Sony, we should give them some time to calm it down so it doesn't totally blows out of propotions.
Chillax and remember, #AllLivesMatters
Stay safe everyone!
*Edit: Sorry Sucker Punch (and nothing else!), I'm hoping so much for a HZD2 that I mixed them up
And by "Reading these comments ..." I mean every single topic on here regarding the postponed events like PS5 reveal, Cyberpunk event and so on. Just so noone try to twist that too...
@wiiware You're missing the point. I wasn't criticizing their stance, I was criticizing their intent, or rather I was mocking it.
They said they're moving out of the way? OK... That doesn't boost the message. People will talk about that decision for a day and move on after they forget about it. It's a superficial move; it's a very political move. It's a PR move.
If they're gonna take a stand, it'd be better to show why they have that stance so that it'd bring people together, so it doesn't come across as withholding something for the sake of PR.
Like, I saw this Sheriff in Michigan during the protest, and he gave a hug to one of the protesters, and he told him that they were all feeling this, and that they were all going to march together. With all the looting, and rioting, and police brutality, I think moments like that are important.
But no one hears about it because it doesn't fit the popular narrative.
