Just in case you didn’t catch it during last week’s reveal stream, Play Has No Limits is the official slogan for the PlayStation 5 – at least for now. Trailers for Sony’s next-gen console end with the brief message, alongside an animation of the console’s iconic symbols. The catchphrase replaces previous mottos like Greatness Awaits and For the Players.
We suppose that the tag is trying to get across the point that PS5 will be host to a variety of different experiences, none of which will be shackled by the hardware. It’s catchy and memorable, although like most slogans, it’s ultimately quite vapid. Nevertheless, expect to hear it a lot more as the system gets closer to release. What are your thoughts?

@TrueAssassin86x Eh?
To be fair, all of these console manufacturers way overuse the hyperboles when it comes to marketing.
Yeah, I dunno about this one. Plenty of limits everywhere for people to point out. Easily target is going to be framerates as it seems many titles will STILL be limited to 30fps.
So no 30fps then 😉
Butttt... My wallet does
Should have been:
"Number Five... Is ALIVE"
Greatness awaits and for the players were much more memorable imo
Fitting for what the console can achieve.
@Rob_230
For The Players was always good, because it seemed like a shot at Microsoft when they announced the Xbox One, and spent most of their presentation talking about what it did other than playing games, and how player-unfriendly it started out.
As always, they tend to get better the more you hear them.
That said "Play has no limits" really does have a sexual undertone to it more than usual with these slogans.... The memes will be strong with this one
@Crimson_Ridley Plus it segued nicely into ‘For All The Players’ which was a great bit of marketing. Sony really have turned their customer satisfaction around since the disaster that was the PS3’s launch.
@nessisonett
Definitely, and I hope they keep it up with this generation. There's always that little bit of doubt that now they're on top again, like with the PS2, they'll make similar mistakes.
Though, I think Sony have learned a lot with the PS3 and success of the PS4 that they'll not allow themselves that mistake again.
I believe it’s kinda dangerous to use that slogan, from a competitive marketing perspective. I could see the meme’d in the future if Sony falls short in any way.
For example, Has No Limits, except PS3 BC.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t give a crap about older BC, just for PS4. I just wouldn’t advise using a slogan that could cause embarrassment in the future.
Are they using this one for the DOE model?
@OmegaStriver
Well 'Greatness Awaits' was made fun of very often.
I saw it in the reveal. I think it s alright, giving the sense of a true generation leap.
@JJ2 Well, later on when it felt like we were waiting and waiting.
Has no limits is way easier to bash.
@OmegaStriver
Oh well. Stupidity has no limits I would say haha
I prefer: I Got 5 On It, or; 5IVE Will Make You Get Down
No limits, except 3 of our previous generations.
It's certainly better than "Greatness Awaits", which can be interpreted as "Our brand is working towards greatness. It's not there yet, but we're getting there, so expect to wait for awhile with us". Fairly negative spin, lol.
@thefirst Agreed, I really like 'For the Players' this is less catchy but could be worse I suppose.
But for the players was a bit of farce because it came at a point where Sony wound down all communication with their players and deafly did what they wanted
a meaningless slogan like 'every little helps'
Originality prize goes to...
No, sorry Sony, you really messed that up!!
“Play has no limits.” Until a half naked Anime chick comes in. Right, Sony censorship department?
Please play 2 Unlimited as it starts up.
@OmegaStriver
It didnt take long for troll drummers 🤦♂️

Haha
How about Playstation Five Oh?
@get2sammyb Is the text below the PS5 section in the forums going to be updated to reflect this? 😁
@JJ2 Yup, and it’s going to get worse.
@OmegaStriver
I dont mind it. People show their true colours and I find trolls funny. They would troll any slogan anyway.
@Robinsad
It's the absolute dumbest slogan you can have when you look at your own offerings and the competition. So damn stupid.
For some reason, Sony rejected my suggestion for the previous generation, so I don't think they deserve my input this time.
Personally I think "Time For Four Play" is a great slogan
"... Unless there's a boobie those scare us"
Fixed it!
No limit whatsoever... Except for the resolution, frame rate, computing power, hdmi cable length and Bluetooth range for the controller... I guess play has its limits
As a working adult, I beg to differ. 😅 Even for Switch, a format consciously endeavouring to remove/reduce many of those limits, that would be somewhat bold a slogan, but for a home console?
Sure, maybe that's an implication towards what we all know I'd want it to be an implication towards. But I'm a bit too cautious to assume this by default. And even that scenario would have its footnotes like it already did for the two previous generations. Yeah, I'm not sure anything in the industry can quite justify such a statement beyond - no argument here - the usual aspect of hyperbolic marketing talk. But hey, PS4 was never "for the players" either - and still felt like the most game-dedicated hardware in PlayStation's entire home console history to date. No "F*** Nintendo + Budget CD Player", no "Budget DVD Player", no "Budget BD Player" - for the first time outside handhelds, Sony made a console that felt like a console first and foremost rather than a media center running video games.
So here's hoping PS5 will try to live up to its slogan to SOME extent, too.
I actually like that all the trolls and idiots are getting triggered by a slogan. Its brilliant 👍
Next week they should go with 'Water is wet' to trigger even more haha
@rjejr lmao
@Lifestranding Thanks, at least somebody around here has a sense of humour. Took me like 10 minutes to make that.
