PS5 Memes Are Rife as the Internet Reacts to Console Reveal

I think this is kind of the point of the design, to get people engaged and talking about the console. It's hard to care about a black block. It also feels simultaneously futuristic and retro, the latter because it's got a more quirky look like how consoles used to be rather than how they tend to look now - a Sky box.

This futuristic yet oxymoronically retro thing seemed to be echoed in things like how they started with the classic PS1 boot up logo then went through all the different PS eras in that one reel. Forward looking and advanced, yet familiar and comfortable is what they seem to be going for.

Go bold or go boring, and I'm glad Sony went bold.

It could easily have been another black box, but Sony have made something that will stand out whether you like that idea or not.

Bring on the memes. I love the consoles design, but i can totally get behind poking fun at it as well.

It looks awesome. At least when you receive it from Amazon you wont mistake it for the parcel box like the xbox.

When they criticise a black box do they mean that PS4 design is a mistake?

Its a great looking console. People would still find something to moan about what ever the thing looked like. They did about the ps4 by saying it looked like a door wedge..... Still went and got one tho didnt they. Im glad they have gone for a bold futuristic statement. Makes it stand out and gets gums flapping.

@K-Wud When it comes to the internet, social media and gaming discussions the loudest voices are always incredibly hyperbolic and black/white.

This is the part of the internet that I love. People can be so creative.

I like the design but love the memes even more. Sony should embrace it like MS did for that livestream they did where the host had an Xbox-fridge background.

I always find these things funny. Not going to lie, I think this generation of console are as ugly as hell. I'm also not keen on the boyracer lights with the green torch coming out of XSX and the blue lighting from the PS5 my living room is going to look like a Bangkok brothel... not that I know what such establishments look like.

The XSX is dull. It's literally a big f'ing box. Not a massive fan, but it's hardly offensive looking. The PS5... I don't know. It might grow on me, like a wart, or skin cancer, but it's not an instant piece of eye candy that's for sure. It looks like a piece of electronics you'd expect to find in a sci-fi film... not sure how it'll fit with my mid-century teak furniture... but whatever.

Hi there fellow gamers. These memes are great. I especially like Bosslogic design with Spiderman holdind the two sides ust like that iconic scene in the second Raimis film. But let´s be honest, after a month of having in our homes and playinf some cool games, we won´t care what the system looks like anymore. Unless it brokes......... Hope not. Think I'll wait for a price drop and a redesign.

That design & color doesn't fit anywhere in my home.

If the system doesn't sell, both will happen very shortly.
