Before Dreams was even released, Media Molecule has been talking about PlayStation VR support. At one point it was thought to be included from day one, but fans of the play create share title have been waiting months for an update. To cap off the just-finished DreamsCom live stream, the studio has finally announced a release date.
Dreams will receive its big PSVR support update on 22nd July 2020.
The update is called Inside the Box, and will bring compatibility with PSVR to Dreams. In addition to this functionality, Media Molecule is adding in "new tutorials, how-tos, and kits to get you started" when building in VR. An on-boarding introduction called All Aboard VR will "help you get familiar with the Dreams VR controls and what it’ll be like traversing the Dreamiverse whether you’re a player or a creator or both".
The update will also introduce new gadgets for VR and non-VR creators to use when building things, and a handful of PSVR compatible games to play too.
It sounds like a huge update, and we can't wait to jump in and see how it all works. What will you make with Dreams' new PSVR support? Tell us in the comments section below.

Finally! VR was what I was waiting for to dive into Dreams!
And just thinking about the PS5 versin in VR is mouthwatering!
It has to be said that I watched that Twitch stream with about 1000 people and everyone in the chat was so positive, not one seemed dismissive of any of the projects shown. It was great to see.
Wow, another big PSVR addition for July. It’s going to be a busy month.
The Dreams community have made some outstanding stuff. It’s going to get crazy in VR. I can’t wait.
Finally gonna get some use from this game....maybe
Some the environments created are beautiful already in flat land so I can’t wait to see what people can do in VR.
Well, the time has come to bite the bullet on dreams then sometime soon(ish). Nice to see some big additions to psvr at the tail end of the PS4 gen too to hold over until ps5 psvr content starts trickling in.
Mario in VR will be a reality. Been waiting for this. Dreams deserves so much more recognition.
Woo hoo!! Something to look forward too.
@snowstorm2574 "Mario in VR will be a reality."
Mario in VR is already a reality. 3 extra levels in Super Mario Galaxy using Labo VR. Not the best, not the worst, but it is Mario in VR.
Added some more details.
@Quintumply Is it the whole package in VR or a separate part of it? I know it was always meant to be the whole thing but wondering if that’s still the case
Really looking forward to this.
@Mergatro1d I think it theoretically works with everything but creators can toggle whether their content is VR compatible or not.
I've still not tried this, I'm going to download the demo now
Sweet going to be awesome 👏
@Quintumply This leads to my question that likely won't be answered until it's release. Will you be able to utilize PSVR to create a 2D game? I'm thinking much like Augmented Reality, I think the tools would work better in a 3D space. This is exciting to me!
finally vr support, now I wait for a sale now, no rush....
Do this day, I have never got to try out PSVR to see whether I would get motion sickness easily. I wish I could try it out; I would totally get one.
@TheDragonsMouth It depends on the game. I doubt something like Beat Saber would cause motion sickness to anyone. Skyrim VR almost made me throw up.
@TheDragonsMouth they used to have travelling demos but you can be sure those have stopped right now, understandably so of course.
@naruball the only time I felt anything from psvr at all is when I jumped off things in Skyrim (like the really high bridges and mountains) even then it was only a slight twinge, but I’ve always had a steel stomach so-to-speak.
Beat saber is so good too, I’d agree that motion sickness from that should be non existent. You don’t really move more than a step to either side and crouching.
I sold my PSVR set to my brother in favor of getting an Index, so it's nice to see he'll have another reason to buy Dreams.
@naruball That game was totally fine. Except those ***** spiral staircases! Even as a guy with a strong VR stomach. Those ***** stairs about killed me.
@TheDragonsMouth i have very bad bppv(like vertigo but waaaaay worse) and it put me off getting a vr kiy for a long time...then i decided what the truck...i can always sell it if i do get dizzy..turns out it was fine and didnt affect me in the slightest...boy was i happy sausage...nms in vr is great fun...a tad fuzzy ...but great fun
@snowstorm2574 No it won't happen, Nintendo keep fighting to remove them.
Already had someone's project removed on copyright games, because Nintendo are just dicks.
@MarcG420 yup. And when your character moves in Beat Saber, you're supposed to move too, so you don't get any motion sickness. That's why walking in VR is hard for many people (including myself) and teleporting can be the only option to avoid motion sickness.
@Jeremiah_Thor Yeah, those are the worst, but for me, mere walking is too much. Oh well...
Knew it was a good idea to hold out, definitely going to get it after the update.
@MaxDiehard Yh true mate. But if you dont publish it Nintendo cant do nothing.
Would have got it day 1 if VR was in as they’d originally said, but got it a few weeks ago for £20 so ready for the update.
@gibbleking Nice, I may actually try and invest in one for a good price. Thanks for sharing you experience.
