The only thing that stopped us falling asleep during EA Play 2020 was the new gameplay trailer for Star Wars: Squadrons. The title got a near six minute video during the presentation that details the single player campaign, multiplayer modes, and fleet battles. The latter seems to be the big selling point here, as two teams dogfight it out over a series of offensive and defensive objectives.
Squadrons is due out on the 2nd October, and right now, it looks very promising. We're looking forward to seeing more, but is this blast-'em-up on your radar? Signal a bombing run in the comments section below.

If the single player campaign is substantial, I am in. If it is a glorified tutorial for the multiplayer, I am not.
Was it EA MOTIVE that was responsible for the single player campaign of SBWF2?
If so, I am definitely looking forward to the campaign as well
2, now 3, comments?
Any mention of the PSVR support? I thought that a lot would be worthy of a few more comments. Unless I messed up again and that's a different game.
@rjejr apparently the whole thing can be played in vr
Seems like my kind of game. The whole dogfighting genre has been weirdly abandoned of late. Doesn’t seem like the sort of game Rogue Squadron was back in the day, but seems like good fun and without microtransactions shenanigans.
I am going to play this to death. If there is 1 multiplayer online game I am going to be good at - this is it! 😅
Apparently not only is it all in VR. But it also has full HOTAS support
Someone tell me its not a good idea to spend 300 quid for psvr and a joystick for this game!! My inner child just wants to sit in a darkened room, immersed in this making pew pew noises! Damn you EA
@Westernwolf4 Same here, not bothering with the game if they don't put enough or any love/effort into single player.
This looks great, why it's taken over 20 years since the last one like this is crazy.
Playing x wing and tie fighter probably contributed to me failing my degree and yes i do regret it, education first kids.
Ace combat 7 and Battlefield 1 are the only mulitplayer games I have ever really played, because of the flying. Count me in!
Aubergine/Water droplets.
Impressive most impressive. Game play vid that's more like it!! Really looking forward to this as the little taster in Battlefront left me wanting.
I hope the single player campaign is good. It's been in development for a while from what I hear.
Very telling it's not set in the sequel trilogy time period. Anyway, I enjoyed the old X-Wing and/or TIE Fighter games but what's pushed me over the edge with this is character customisation. Gets me every time.
Looks pretty good. Any update on vader immortal release date? That's the one I'm really looking forward to
Talking about the old X-Wing / TIE Fighter games (ahh fond memories also) i can see that the ships HUD's have power settings there to adjust between weapons, engines and shields - just like you could in those games.
This makes my optimistic imagination run wild that maybe, just maybe some of the design / dev team were also lovers of these old classics, and if they've incorporated that mechanic in the game then maybe they've also included great story and missions as per those classics too.
I live in (A New) Hope!
Looks cool But EA will probably mess it up with Loot boxes etc etc
Not interested in multiplayer, hoping that the single player campaign is substantial. I wonder if they will include B Wings and Tie Defenders?
take my money, all of it, right now, thank you please
@aSmilingMan Thank you. I thought it was this game but I didn't see VR mentioned anywhere in the article.
"that details the single player campaign, multiplayer modes, and fleet battles."
Watching the vid again, and yes, she mentioned VR, guess I was too distracted by the visuals the first time.
This seems like the kind of game that could really sell VR. I always wanted a "Last Starfighter" game but this will do. Though I would only play the single player campaign, I'm not interested in online.
@rjejr agreed. I'm one who have started contemplating VR bc of it.
@aSmilingMan I bought my PSVR headset back when the improved model came on the market so I got the bundle w/ the camera for $200. Came w/ GT Sport that I traded in for $17 to cover the tax. And my son chipped in $30 b/c he wanted the camera for some other game. We've probably just about gotten our money's worth out of it, it's such a hassle setting it all up to put on, but Astrobot is awesome. I enjoyed it so much I bought Labo VR for $40, $25 w/ BB credit. It's not PSVR but it has some fun games of it's own. I think VR is going to stick around longer than those 3D games did. Anybody remember those? Anybody? And toys-to-life. Not even Crash is going to be toys-to-life. And band instrument games. Yeah, lots of worse fads than VR.
@rjejr very valid points! Given that PS5 is around the corner, I may wait to see what upgrades will show up. I'm also trying to calibrate how much my wife would tolerate my complete disappearance from the world by having the headset cover my senses.
BOOM!!!

"But Frazier says it's not that simple, and for the reason why he went back to the Lucasarts X-Wing and TIE Fighter games."
Well it could be good then!!
@aSmilingMan "by having the headset cover my senses."
That's 1 of the things I really don't like about PSVR, family time. I dont' think most peopel realize this but Astrobot Rescue Mission, arguably the best PSVR game, is single player only, but the free Playroom VR stuff on PS4 was multiplayer. 1 person played w/ the headset on, the others played on the TV. It was like the multiplayer games in Nintendo Land on Wii U, and it was a lot of fun. I don't think I've seen any paid PSVR games make use of that aspect yet, 2 people seeing 2 different screen sitting next to each other, but they should.
But for 1 player PSVR is a different experience. Costly though. And I can't play for more than 20 minutes b/c then I want to throw up.
@rjejr thanks for explaining and pointing me to Playroom. Hope this game is what we hope it becomes. Wishing you and your family all the best!
