Following up on Sony's deep dive into the PlayStation 5's architecture in March, the hardware manufacturer has now revealed just a selection of the next-gen titles coming to the console at launch and beyond. Done via a digital showcase, we now know that the likes of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Returnal will be coming to PS5. Surprise announcements also included Destruction Allstars and Gran Turismo 7 with a lot of gameplay to impress the masses watching from home. Sony even touched on some third-party games coming to the next-gen system, including Hitman III and Resident Evil VIII: Village.
As always though, we want to know what you made of the presentation. Did it live up to your lofty expectations or are you feeling a bit disappointed by what was shown? Do you feel like next-gen has finally arrived or was all of this possible on PlayStation 4? Place your vote in our poll and expand on your thoughts in the comments below.

Hit or miss. I liked some games shown and I’m excited for another Ratchet & Clank, but I hope they come out with a redesign soon because the PlayStation 5 is an ugly looking console.
My most anticipated game in the bunch is the sequel to one of my least favourite of 2017. I'm not sure what that sort of indifference is called but it doesn't bode well.
Do better, Sony.
The console design is awful (can it even lay flat?) but dangit Ratchet and Demons Souls might have done the trick.
I really hope they don’t force the vertical stand....I need to lay it flat in the console. Kids and dog will knock it over otherwise and wife may be upset.
Started very very strong, a bit soft in the middle but they ended great!
Incredible.
Also I called underwater combat in Horizon 2 yearssss ago. So stoked😁.
This is how you do a conference!
Hype, good luck with selling this digital version, you will fit a couple of games on ha ha!
Very exciting! So happy the Demon's Souls remake is real. And the console is just beautiful, absolutely love the design!
Some things were very good, others not so much.
I loved that Sony gave time to indies and smaller studios!
Loved the design, looks super modern! HzD 2 and Spider-Man are a must.
It was way better than Very Good. I was honestly amazed. And the console looks fantastic.
@Mega-Gazz They showed a brief shot of it laying flat.
Some games looked great, some games looked rubbish but the actual event was very well done. I even quite like the PS5 design.
It did. I was hoping to see the console and a new Ratchet and Clank. Very happy I got to see both, plus Horizon Zero Dawn sequel. Some other games caught my eye as well.
It was good. I’m not one who gets too overhyped about this stuff. Saw maybe 8 games that thoroughly impressed me.
Love the console, it looks gorgeous. The games were a decent bunch, not really all my cup of tea but that cute game with the blob things and the bow and arrow looks incredible. Gran Turismo, Resi 8 and Demon’s Souls were also good to get a look at, even if we already knew about them.
Insane beyond my expectations resi gt7 ratchet sackboy horizon among a few more just so good
Far too much indie rubbish shown throughout.
Game shows always do this, get everyone hyped then show indie titles for kids, then you wait 2 hours and see 3 decent games.
No God of War announcement either which is shocking. Resident Evil 8, I'm thinking what on earth have they done to Resi.
Not really, apart some highlights like Demon Souls, GT7, HZD 2 and Ratchet and Clank there was nothing that made me want it on Day 1.
Also I am not sure I felt the generational gap in terms of graphics.
The console looks like a gaming router to me. I would have liked something more "monolitical "
It exceeded them honestly
Poor start with GTAV, then a few great games, a very big lull and a few great at the end. Ratchet and Clank best showed what PS5 could do but overall I'd say 7 out of 10
Epic presentation. GT7, HZD 2, Astrobot, LBP..... Well played.
Blew xbox out the water tbh, will play all of those shown tonight apart from nba 2k21 and gran turismo
Project athia, horizon zero dawn and resident evil 9 stole it for me though
Although ratchet and clank looked dope
I realized that I don't need to preorder one and I can wait.
it did!
so uh is horizon forbidden west SP only? no coop ?
Looked so good and digital only version should be quite a bit cheaper.
Everything was so perfect !!! Now the only concern left is the price !!!
Definitely a glimpse of it and on its side in that final video...yay!!
Plus a LOT of USB ports in please!!
@Mega-Gazz get another wife
@arnoldlayne83 The gap won't be so much on graphics, but more in world building. Look at what is possible now in Ratchet and Clank. Instantly loading entire new worlds.
Not sure I like the console design...To be perfectly honest I had a good nap during the presentation.
@Ryno Gotta agree with you on that one.
Absolute killer of a show, I was hooked throughout. The console design will be a love it or hate it affair, personally I love it.
@playstation_king we haven't seen Xbox's games yet
@ApostateMage I thought some games looked rubbish also but they might look better in 4k 60fps, will have to wait and see
Better than I expected, really like the design of the console.
Yes, love the design of the console for one. A campaign mode on Gran Turismo has got me very nostalgic. Horizon looking amazing as I thought too.
No. Wont buy the ps5 this year for sure
Wow that was amazing imo, loved the look of most games, and I loved the ps5 look, great presentation wasn't sure if they were going to show hz2. I thought they're gonna finish with either hzd 2 or reveal ps5 and they only gone and done the 2, bravo Sony, defo day one for me, only sad news was GTA 5, really just let it go now and get the next one out lol. One exited chap here lol.
It met my admittedly low expectations.
Ratchet, Hitman, Oddworld, Death Loop, RE8 and Horizon 2 were the highlights. 2 games already announced and 4 that we pretty much knew were coming.
Biggest downer for me is weirdly Spider-man. The released date killed my enthusiasm. Much too quick for a proper sequel. It’s going to be closer to First Light/Lost Legacy I feel.
Also think the console looked ridiculous. I just want a simple box under my TV. Interesting that it seemed like it was designed mainly as the digital edition. The disc drive looked awkwardly added on.
It met more than my expectations to be honest. I wasn't expecting to see the console itself, they showed.
Horizon Forbbiden West and Demons' Souls was more than enough for me.
Play Has No Limits
Overall good. Much of the presentation was boring, but the heavy hitters were excellent, particularly Demon Souls & RE8 for me.
I actually like the design quite a bit. They showed more than what I was expecting. Still sad that Silent Hills ended up not being a thing
@tatsumi agreed, but still I did not see anything that made me really scream "next gen" so far even in terms of loading time (very few gameplay shown)... Aside Ratchet and Clank.
Unreal 5 presentation was way better to show me the gen gap...
I really like the design and the majority of the games look great!
The two things I really wanted were Spidey 2 and HZD 2. Plus, Deathloop looks cool. So I am a happy camper, and strongly considering buying at launch for the first time ever-and I have been gaming since Atari.
I enjoyed it more than I thought, but I still have too many questions such as release date and importantly price. Price makes me especially nervous given the extra stuff they were showing off. Seeing a digital only PS5 is another disturbing reminder of where gaming is going. PS5 design itself looks ugly to me.
The Bethesda games that were shown I believe were announced last year. If Bethesda had shown those ar E3 2019, people might of actually liked the show.
Spider-Man sequel looked good, bugsnack(?), was an interesting idea, Horizon sequel looks pretty but I don't know beyond that.
Overall, cautiously interested, but still not yet convinced of the need to upgrade straight away.
EDIT: Also, Sony, we get it, you can make transitions with the symbols, stop. They feel like padding when they are clearly not needed.
EDIT 2: Stray also looked interesting to me. I feel like the trailer told me in 1 minute, more than what other trailers do in 5.
Overall it was OK. Ratchet & Clank showed what the PS5s custom I/O brings to gaming, and that's all we needed to see really.
It was AWESOME.
But I wanted a price.
Wow great diverse set of games shown loved All of them and I guess the console is a love hate thing but just like the controller wait until you see it in all black everyone will love it.
It was ok up until the demon's souls remaster, then it was pure gold. The console looks awesome too!
I wanted Silent Hill so bad, I'm disappointed. Demon's Souls and RE8 is hype though.
I personally love the design, looks very futuristic. The show itself is meh, only few games I am anticipated for and literally like 3 games from the whole list are really PS5 only. Ratchet and clank, horizon and ps5 reveal kind of saved the show from being a disaster. It sure looks like the least graphical console gen jump. It did not gave me the same impression compared when I saw killzone and infamous second son for the first time, it was like jaw dropping, but this reveal was like ok at best.
It. Was. Insane!
Hzd2... Wow
Ratchet... Wow
Gt7... Wow
PS5... Wow wow
What was the other console name? It doesnt matter now.
GREAT format. Saw the console. Some big first-party releases.
I wasn't really blown away at any point, but I think it was a very good first look at the PS5 and its upcoming releases.
Day one easy. Hopefully the 4 big lads are close to launch
It was very good i enjoy.but i wonder what happened to silent hill game.word up son
They catered for everyone tonight. New exclusives, 3rd parties, indies and console, what's to not like... oh some will no doubt pick holes in it.
@playstation1995 Silent Hill making an appearance would have clinched this for me, I think. I want a new one, a GOOD new one, so bad.
Horizon 2
Godfall
Spiderman Morales
Ratchet and clank
AND you show me the ps5 AND a digital edition since i download my games.
You bet your sweet a*s im satisfied lol
If this was meant to convince me that I need a PS5 holiday 2020 it didn't do it for me. Other than Horizon 2 there wasn't anything that seemed to push the limits of this gen. I'm not spending hundreds of dollars for the opportunity to spend more on standard looking games.
No Silent Hill = 0/10!
The Xbox Series X was definitely much worse, but this one managed to make me really, really angry, lol. What the heck was up with teasing Silent Hill just to give way to nothing? Frustrating. PS5 isn't anywhere on my radar right now, not that it even has a price or release date. Seems like they're waiting for MS to make a move.
It wasn’t great and it wasn’t bad. If anyone thinks it was bad though they were expecting way too much.
Love the number of female leads. That was my favorite part.
Only game worth getting was Horizon 2. And that will be on PC in 2-3 years tops as well.
Nah, no reason to buy the PS5. None. Zero.
I'll be getting the XBOX Series X.
They should have delayed The Last of Us 2 and made it a PS5 launch title. Now it's just looking bare. Most games are either PS4 ports (Spider-Man), tech demo's, artsy stuff or multiplatform games. And yeah one meh racing game.
@Ralizah Have to admit, I am a bit disappointed about Silent Hill! Argh, those rumours did build me up to disappointment.
A lot of good games shown, especially if you're into platformers like Ratchet and Clank, Astrobot, Sackboy Adventures and the Kena game. Still want to see more of the actual console itself. I'm not bothered about launch lineup because I'm not getting it at launch regardless, but it's good to know it will regularly have games coming out for it.
As much as I like the look of Resi 8, I'm sad about no Silent Hill.
@Akurusu What world are you living in? It's futuristic and beautiful!!
It was a good showing. They showed gameplay from actual console footage and just about every genre of game was represented.
The console looks lovely. I'll be getting a disc one. If it wasn't back-compat I'd be tempted by the digital only one. The wife turned and said "We'll be getting a new TV then" so I think it's going to be an expensive Christmas!
@nessisonett I prepared myself for disappointment. I still think it's too good to be true.
I hope I'm wrong, though.
@sanderev Have fun with that!
At one point I was thinking, "Ok, this is solid, but I need them to go big soon..." Then Demon's Souls happened, and it was insane from there.
There was something there for all tastes. I wanted Spidey, HZD, Demon's Souls.
I got it all.
Amazing show.
@carlos82 did you not watch xbox's presentation?
They definitely had a good variety of games I'll give them that. I would've liked a better look at the console itself and a price! And a cameo from Mark Cerny.
Well... it was ok. It didnt rock my socks or anything. There were no surprises and i was upset they make Sumo make another sackboy game rather than a new wipeout and the japanese team make astrobot rather than a new Ape escape. Those would've been great reveals.
What we got was what we already knew about. Horizon 2, GT7, demons souls. Ratchet and clank might've been the best reveal of the show and it's great as a launch title, wich makes astrobot and sackboy completely unecessary. Missed potential.
Not bad actually, some games got my attention.
@playstation1995 They've got to save some. They said they have much more to share.
@playstation_king their real presentation is next month when they'll be showing their first party games, that was mainly indie and a few third party
I liked this alot. The Console looks AMAZING and HFW is a day one for me. And OMG Miles Morales!!!
I scored it very good. Despite some games not interesting me (demons souls remake and Horizon 2) there was something for absolutely everyone in that reveal.
Couple of concerns, GT7 looked underwhelming and a couple of games looked PS4 in gameplay (godfall looked awful).
Some absolute highlights though. Ratchet and Clank: Rifts apart looks like a genuine next gen experience with the reality switching like that mid game. Amazing.
A great presentation and a win for gamers overall.
Safe to say that Silent Hill for PS5 isn't happening... Now let's hear about backwards compatibility, pricing and it's game on. Microsoft has a very high target to hit after that show... Sony haven't hit a home run, but they've come darn well close to it.
Surpassed my expectations, which weren't too high. Lots of great looking stuff though. I'd say best moments:
1. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
2. Horizon Forbidden West
3. Resident Evil VIII
4. Spider-Man Miles Morales
5. Oddworld: Soulstorm
There was one disappointment for me, however, and I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a massive disappointment... No Silent Hill. I was really hoping that rumor of Japan Studio working on a reboot was true.
Overall, very strong debut, on par with the Feb. 2013 PS4 event. It's already solidified that I'll get a PS5, just need a few other questions answered to determine when.
Not really sold on the games so far, apart from Demon's Souls and Horizon. I like the console just not the two-tone scheme. Sticking with a disc drive thanks.
@RedShirtRod Ratchet and Clank was the game pushing next gen, go back and look at the ray traced reflections all over the floor and warping instantly between dimensions
Absolutely perfect showing, that is how you do it .
Uhh forgot to mention the Arkane game! I am so happy they will do another immersive sim, it looks cool and interesting with the "time rewind" mechanic.
Big fan of that studio!
That was pretty awesome, just waiting for the price!
@Ralizah. At first that horror game looks like silent hill but.it turns out to be resident evil.i need more horror game.but ghostwire tokyo looks good.and that housemarque game.deathloop.and that kid with the bow and arrow.it was a really good presentation.word up son
I kept my expectations low, so this presentation absolutely blew me away. Ratchet and Clank, Horizon Zero Dawn 2, Hitman 3, and that Square Enix game have me super excited.
Yes it did, some.great games coming , ratchet and clank and horizon 2 are he big ones for me, not sure yet on the look of the console but how often to people actually look at there console, so it's really doesn't matter for me.
Godfall still looks boring and generic thankfully so many better games on show.
@Exlee300p Thanks, I will.
Normally I buy all consoles. And I play them all (Nintendo's offering the most). But I almost exclusively play the Switch right now. So I decided on one console next gen. PS5 or XSX.
XSX just won.
@AdamNovice Not really. I did not see a single JRPG or any Japanese fighters, heck it looked like those of us who like Anime style or Japanese games will be SOOL with the PS5. Also there were WAY too many experimental games with atypical or bizarre gameplay. The PS5 also looks as large as a PC setup so it likely won't fit in our entertainment consoles. Lastly, Bloody hell does the PS5 look ugly. About the only place it would actually look good in is the living quarters of a starfleet ship...
Loved it. I think the console looks beautiful but my son hates it. I always stand my consoles up behind my oled so never really get to see them but this I would like to see 😢 watching all the trailers in 4K now and it’s another level of beauty!
@arnoldlayne83 yep dishonored is one of the best game ever.deathloop looks cool.word up son
Some interesting games - overall more 'Meh' than great but the few Great will be a good enough reason to buy. Still need to see prices and when certain games are due as to when I may jump in but that console design doesn't look great and may not even fit where I want/need it to...
@sanderev which XSX games have impressed you? I mean, you’re mad about a 2-3 year wait for Horizon: Zero Dawn 2 but all XSX games will be available for X1X so... 🤷🏾♂️
There pics of the console out there laying flat. So it looks like it can be stood upright or laid flat.
I was bored at the start, but during the end part they showed some games that are enough for me to buy one at the end of 2021.
They showed everything I was expecting except the new Silent Hill
I enjoyed it. Ratchet and Clank, Hitman and Demon's Souls all good. And Sackboy made me smile
@playstation1995 agree! And Prey is so underrated! It deserved more success.
Word up son!
Rarely did they show what differentiates next gen from current gen. Only ratchet &clank stood out with the dimension jumps. And don't tell me "look at the reflections"... could just as well be baked.
I'm definitely in on that new square enix thing, RE8 and Spiderman Miles Morales, but the whole presentation couldn't sell me that paradigm shift they've been swooning about. I could imagine everything running on a PS4.
Amazing design
Digital edition is the way to go
Horizon, Demon souls, Resi8
0 words about backward compatibility... That's not comfortable.
@BAMozzy Yeah most entertainment consoles don't have room to fit what is essentially a gaming PC tower...
@Starkei after mocking the Switch for its first year, I have to say it became my first gaming console. There are plenty of amazing games on it
Also just throwing it out there, PlayStation 5? More like PlayStation Shard building.
Seriously it looks like the London Bridge Shard.
Game after game after game after game!!
Boom! Sony dropped some heavy hitters today, most seemingly somehow avoiding leaks and even rumours!!
Impressive stuff and the console itself looks next gen to me.
Very canny giving the option for a drive less version, I expect the drive to be a uhd Blu-ray player too though.
Very pleased, very impressed and very hyped!!
Nice one Sony and thanks for repaying my faith.
@TowaHerschel7 @TowaHerschel7
It rare for any jRPG to be seen at launch , they all start appearing about a year after launch.
You might get one of two but they are usual poor, it's later they start to appear it's been the same since ps2
@playstation1995 Good to see you enjoyed the reveal! Word up son
I wonder how much we lost due to streaming and not seeing it live.
Picture quality was not to good.
For some reason the Kena game really speaks to me. Thought it looked pretty and gameplay was decent and it had an awesome vibe going for it.
Gt7. Yes pls. Trial mountain baby! Now just let Feeder do the opening theme.
Hz2 OK. It's a game, bit burned out on open world.
I kinda miss an jrpg in the line up tbh.
I will buy it day one anyway.
I know the look of the console will divide opinion but I for one loved it and think it looks amazing but then I've always had a thing for white gadgets.
Just wish we found out more on pricing and release dates
@undercoveragent It's not different to how games run on the PS4 just now, you have the disc but the full contents are installed to the HDD, it only checks the disc is present for rights management. The disc version gives the option to use Ultra Blu-Ray and of course physical games but in the end they all copy to the internal storage. They are not going to make an SSD with superior I/O to then run from a disc.
@arnoldlayne83 Plus the games are great if you like anime style or Japanese games. It's also the best console if you don't like pew pew or ultra violent games.
@JohnGrey
Gt7, ratchet&clank, spider man morales, Demon souls remake, hzd2.All that in the first year. Are you for real?
I missed about 95% of the stream, but from what I caught, and recapping everything I missed, I'm pretty happy with it.
@suikoden PS2 had Wild Arms III and Dark Cloud at launch.
@thefirst I expect it to have more than 1 Usb 3.1 port at the back to maybe have all the wires hidden if you get the charging station etx
@TowaHerschel7
Rare but brilliant expectations . We might see something revealed in next few months.
Demons Souls, Ratchet and Clank, Sackboy..just those 3 alone has me hyped! The other stuff looked good too!
@AhmadSumadi Hellblade 2, Halo, and of course everything coming to GamePass.
That was a great PS4 games event.
Above my expectations. ☺️ I expected disaster, but Ratchet & Clank, RE VIII and Demon's Souls surprised me. Design of console is ugly as I expected.
What is REAL disaster, it's digital version. I have to remember those sentences from xbox I told to customers: "No, you cannot play this disc game on your digital console. Your console was cheaper right? Yes. You have to buy that game digitaly. No. We cannot refund you full price for unboxed disc."
Last christmas it was hell with xbox all digital, looks this christmas it won't be any better.
Mostly negative. Capped off by a disgusting looking console.
They should’ve cut about 20 minutes of footage here. Also, I’ll never be blown away by «footage of cut scenes captured on console». The games that got me hyped the most were those that showed actual gameplay, like Ratchet & Clank. I still find it baffling that they didn’t find a way to show us these games in 4K and 60 fps - that would’ve made it much more impressive.
(Also, that console is the worst looking Sony has designed so far, wtf.)
@arnoldlayne83 I don't doubt it!! Any hidden gem recommendations?
Jesus that was not good. Pretty much everything looked like it could have ran on ps4. Unless theres some amazing launch games they're holding back this will be the first playstation I dont buy on launch date. Worst thing to happen in 2020....🤯
Very good, a Mark Cerny appearance from being perfect.
@Akurusu Well you can always get the microsoft console if you don't like the design. Once again MS gave the world a box. This thing looks sexy af. Like it came out of some futuristic sci-fi movie. Bring it on!!
@Marios-love-child i also loved the console design. Imo best looking console ever. Few games that float my boat there as well. GT7, ratchet, spider man, HZD, demon souls and Hitman were my pick of the bunch but some of the indie games looked tidy.
It did and didn’t meet it. Games looked good, some even great. Consoles versions were better than expected and as everyone is still wondering about the price I’m still asking what about backwards compatibility? Even so I’m more likely to keep my PS4 pro and get the digital version of the system.
Loved it! Design is great, we have several news platformers, a proper full Grain Turisimo, and I get Hitman 3 confirmed. it could only have gone better if MGS remake had been announced lol
I’m mainly an Xbox guy and I was impressed with that reveal, it absolutely blew last month’s Series X “gameplay” reveal out the water. Showing the PS5 at the end was just the cherry on the cake. I really want to know about it’s backward compatibility, I want to be able to play Spider-Man, Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone on it.
@Party_Cannon people moan they dont want a box then they moan when they are given something with curves and nice lines. Cant please some people,eh.
@Starkei well I am not yet so much into it to have played many many games, but apart Zelda BOTW and Mario Odyssey (must have for any console owner) I had a blast with Fire Emblem 3 Houses, Children of Morta, Arms (couch coop is sooo funny and chaotic), Dragon quest builders 2, Astral Chain (masterpiece of gameplay), Snipperclips (hilarious when played with friends). But aside of games (there are plenty, and it really depends on what are your tastes), it is the portability that is a huge winner for me. I can now play AAA games in 15 mins stints whenever and wherever I am in the house without having to turn on the TV....
I forgot: Splatoon 2 is the best thing that happened in pvp after counterstrike
@sanderev can’t you get those on 1X?
Love the games but I don’t see the jump in quality from a PS4 to a PS5 game and I need to know the price and power of each console
Met expectation in Every way. Big new games. Strange smaller ones and Fan favorites.
Also tons of different art styles and a top Racing Game for online.
I wish I had a JRPG, but those take time I guess.
Better than I expected, from Demons Souls, R&C Rift Apart, Gran Turismo 7, Spider-Man, Project Athia, Sackboy, Horizon Forbidden West, Housemarques game, Godfall. Sony differently knocked it out of the park, your also on drugs if you believe some of them games can run on a PS4 or blind.
Lots and lots of different types of games which is what PlayStation is all about so I thought it was excellent Could of done with more real gameplay of the bigger games tho R&C gameplay looked so COOL jumping in and out of World's, loved that + that Cat and Robots game I liked Not sure why but it looked cool + SACKBOY IS BACK!!! LOVE Sackboy + Horizon + Spiderman, Hmm looks like next-gen will be a good one to
I think outside the planet-travel we saw on Ratchet & Clank, I'm mostly unimpressed with what we saw. Resident Evil Village looks intense, and can't wait, but it doesn't feel "next gen" to me.
I also find it terrible that we're yet to know the price. Makes it feel like they have a PS3 in their hands and they know it.
@MS7000 Oh yeah I forgot about Stray. That looked pretty cool.
People should relax. Sequels to the likes of God of War and Days Gone are a given and I like how varied this original slate of games was.
Horizon Forbidden West looks absolutely incredible and Kena delightful.
Good, I like more gameplay (with hud etc) but this will do, I'm hyped for horizon zd 2, spiderman miles morale, ratchet and clank, gran turismo 7, resident evil 8, and of course demons soul is really good.
I can see sony decision to make state of play for one game only will be really advantageous for their news cycles, can't wait for 15-30 minutes state of play for all of the titles above
The game name kena? That look promising! Demon baby I am Inn. Kind disappointed ny Godfall.. I like the show 😱
@nessisonett. What game did you like on the show.word up?son
@Menchi it's better looking than the Xbox but whatever floats your boat.
Hello, police? I'd like to report a crime in progress. Yes, Sony are murdering Microsoft in public. They're even streaming it all over the internet.
@playstation1995 That one with the bow and arrow and the wee black blobs looked brilliant. Ghostwire Tokyo looks great too!
These nintendo fanboys complaining about everything foh.
@nessisonett i also liked the look of the one with the girl. I liked the look of the adventuring one too with the guy plopping one out on the bog. Looked weird but i liked the look of the gameplay.
Great show! Great mix of AAA and indie. They even have the great slogan Play has no limits. Don’t underestimate the power of it. Greatness awaits also works well in PS4 era. Even EA’s challenge everything gave me goosebump back in the day. Also post about the accessories announced.
An outstanding presentation from Sony! 👏
@Col_McCafferty I'm indifferent to the xbox design, it's just "generically there" but the PS5 is actively ugly to me. So apathy from genericness beats actively ugly.
@Col_McCafferty Sony definitely got the games on display right in my personal opinion. I felt there was enough there that at least one of the games shown will get some interest. Kena does look good stylistically, but I want to see more before judging any further.
Did people really think the graphical leap was going to be that huge ?, I don't understand what people were expecting ?, We are at a point now were the only real leap forward graphical wise would for them to look indistinguishable from reality, everything shown looked clean and tidy, rachet and clank was the only game that really showed of what the ssd is all about, and will be impressive for sure, hzd, Res, kena and little devil peeked my interest but demon souls alone is enough to sell it to me lol, fair play to Sony for not playing it safe with the design and going for something a bit out there, I'm not a huge fan but I really couldn't care what the thing looks like aslong as it does what it's suppose to do
I wasn't that hyped before, but still came away feeling a little flat.
There were definitely some games which caught my attention... Stray, Returnal, a few others I can't recall at the moment... and of course Horizon.
But I lost interest in the likes of Ratchet & Clank a while ago (last I bothered with was A Crack in Time on PS3, which bored me), and Gran Turismo looked... well, like Gran Turismo - it seemed largely the same as ever, but a bit prettier, and I haven't bothered with that since GT5 on PS3.
The console looks incredible, even though I'm not usually one to care much about the box itself. The digital-only option was a surprise, though with the cost of digital being on average £15 higher than physical, there's no way in hell I'd buy one personally unless they make some announcement about price parity, which seems highly unlikely.
I still want to know more about the workings of the system itself, though, and although they did say that this would be all about the games, I'm starting to get irritated about the lack of info on storage options etc. But at least now this is out of the way and the dam has been been breached (so to speak), we will hopefully start to get a steady trickle of info going forward, hopefully building to a flood in the not too distant future.
And did we get our first glimpse of the PS5 startup screens in there as well towards the end?
@Party_Cannon Good Lord, has the fanbase become this annoying? No one can criticize PlayStation without some fanboy bringing up Xbox. The console is ugly and it better be able to lay flat. I said what I said.
@MaccaMUFC As they are Sony first-party games, I think it's pretty much guaranteed that they'll work on PS5. In fact, most should.
I was not excited during the presentation. A lot of confirmed rumors and sequels that I think most people were already expecting. I want to see more Deathloop as I love Arkane, and I thought Returnal was surprisingly interesting looking. So glad Housemarque shelved that battle royale. Maybe my excitement will build as they reveal more, but not hugely feeling next gen right now.
@thefirst My stream wasn't too bad during the GT bit, and it did look very pretty... but then GT has always looked stunning; it's the gameplay where it's been showing its age for a while now. You could say it's the epitome of generational changes... exactly the same, but a bit prettier.
Though to be fair, Driveclub was - and still is - a stunning looking game. For me, it's still one of the best looking racers on any platform.
Honestly, meh.
Then again I wasn't hyped, so you could say it lived up to my expectations.
PS5 is a sit and wait for me at this point.
The box itself I don't know, maybe I'll grow on me. Right now it looks like a "will age poorly" design.
@Chryssy75
100% real. I despise racing games, Spider-Man wore out its welcome, HZD was thematically and mechanically one of the most mediocre games I played in 2017 and a sequel is not high on my list of must-plays (disregarding the fact that it'll be on Steam within a few years of release), I have no interest in playing Demon's Souls again after completing six playthroughs on PS3, and Ratchet & Clank do not merit a US$500+ outlay.
So yeah. Thoroughly disinterested thus far. Perhaps when I see more of Ghostwire Tokyo it might pique my interest, and Kena has some potential, but it's early yet.
There were some duller moments and games that don’t look that great among with trailers that could have been better, it between Demon’s Souls, The SE witch game, Stray, and Spider-Man Morales having potential (it looks like an in-between game though, something to push out at launch) as well as Ratchet & Clank being a good maybe, with some interesting indie game I’d say it was a excellent showing. Horizon will be cool, but the trailer fell flat for me. Aloy is an average character and showing her doing a bunch of riding and climbing isn’t exciting. Show off the dynamic open-world, how you feel like a hunter, and what’s improved over the first game. As of now though, I’m not getting Horizon at launch.
Housemarque’s new IP also looked good, but didn’t sell me.
I also wish they had focused on the Demon’s Souls Remake more, as that felt like or brought the house down and should have shown off the PS5 a bit.
Wait, if Ghostwire Tokyo isn’t on PS4 anymore add that to my hype list. I really liked it I just thought it wasn’t a pure next-gen game.
Too many titles had no date or vague "2021" (that i always just take for granted meaning "we hope christmas 2021".)
I was not wrong about the ton of third party games.
I was wrong about lots of sports titles (only saw one.)
I was wrong about Horizon sequel being a launch title (its one of the games with no date.)
Want to play Spider Man: Mile Morales, but so far, this console does not have me locked in for launch purchase with only that game.
If I got the console magically gifted to me by family, I would also play Ratchet and Clank (although never played the series.)
Many games in the showcase made me feel they were padding the show.
REALLY not crazy about the digital edition even being a thing. Didnt like it when Microsoft did it with the XBox either.
Loved it?? More than loved it. Came bursting out the box, slowed a little on the middle straight then crossed the line with a bang. More excited about the next gen than I was yesterday. Yh the new design is a little out there but I still love it.
It was a new PlayStation reveal; of course it was poor. For me, PlayStation consoles don't really get enough system sellers for a good few years. I'll do my usual and probably get the slim version in a few years with some cool exclusives when they come down in price. I am admittedly hyped for Horizon 2, though!
@Mega-Gazz Of course you can lay it flat! Sony would not make a console that you can only use one way.
I was really excited to watch the presentation, but it just seemed so slowly paced. So slowly paced that I almost fell asleep watching it, but then I noticed the Demon souls trailer. That woke me up and kind of made me excited for the Ps5.
People like you are hilarious. Always have to show they are the most contrarian and indifferent to stuff people appreciate. Just know you are in the vast minority calling Horizan and Spiderman mediocre. You probably didn't like god of war either I bet.
Nope, frankly I was pretty disappointed with the PS4 so they're going to need to work extra hard to win me back, Gran Turismo looks clean and all but that's not the sort of game to really entice me, nothing else on display really interests me whatsoever. It needs exclusive Fighting games and turn-based JRPGs, SRPGs & Strategy games. Those kinds of games are what sell systems for me.
I was a little underwhelmed to start with. It gradually improved as it went along. Deathloop made me sit up. It looked like an Arkane game straight away and I love Dishonored and Prey. Then RE VIII which really got me excited. Pragmata had me intrigued but I was disappointed by the 2022 release date. I wish they wouldn't reveal games so early. We've been stung before (The Last Guardian).
Horizon II looked beautiful but I'd been expecting to see it and I struggled to get into the first one.
The console looks good. The digital version looks nicer because it's more symmetrical but I want a disc drive for movies so I'm going to have to put up with that weird bulge which makes it look like one of those twisted skyscrapers.
Overall very happy with the presentation.
This was dog dirt “reveal” after dog dirt reveal. Weak exclusives, no real visual fanfare over the capabilities on XBox One X or PS4 Pro, GTA V.... AGAIN!!!! They do know this was a PS3 game??? Are we really to ensure another “next” Generation console 2 years premature, padded out with “remasters” of old games we’ve played to death and got bored of long ago? Sony’s hardware abortions served to end with PS5, it peaked with PS3 and is becoming worse and worse.
They are the new Sega of hardware.
What the hell is that pad except for the worst reimagined SNES controller they’ve done to date?
And why does the console look like a 1980’s student house dehumidifier???
Utter crap from start to finish. Classic Sony.
Was good but nothing to lose my mind over, was really hoping for silent hill, or a next gen fighter and cant believe quantum error didnt make an appearance.
Stray was a highlight for me though! Very intrigued but need to see gameplay. Returnal, athia, pragmata and little devil inside all looked really cool though. Just have to wait and see.
Though i dont love white hardware i do think the system and controller look slick af! But there BETTER be a bunch of usb ports in the back. Heres hoping for a black version too.
@A356852 Congratulations! You just gave people another reason to frown upon the PlayStation fanbase. Go back to your Vtech if you’re going to act like a kid.
None of the game s looked next gen because there was not real ray tracing. Just poor quality reflections in Godfall and on Clank or so we where told. My RTX 2080 already produces better graphics. As ray Tracing makes games quicker and cheaper to develop I'm worried the PS5 will age really fast.
This event was't any different form the Xbox event last month.
Just a bunch of CG trailers with some short gameplay sprinkled here and there.
Absolutely nothing that really looked Next Gen, just more of the same.
It wasn't up to the hype at all.
I don't dislike the design though. It's nice to have something a bit different.
Just a personal opinion, but as things stand right now there is absolutely no reason to buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X at launch.
And seeing the Demon's Souls and GTA5 stuff just made me realize that next gen (on PS5 at least) is going to be yet again a parade of remakes and remasters all over again. I'm pretty sure we can forget about getting upgraded versions of games like Smart Delivery is promising.
The lack of HD should, at most, cut the price by $50 (at least based on the XBox SAD price.)
They could go lower under the thought that anyone buying one is forced to buy games directly from them, giving them a larger profit margin on game sales (and removing the option of cheaper used or borrowed games from buyers.)
So maybe the PS5 SAD will be $100 less than the base model.
$600/$500 respectively?
It was ok but the issue I had with it was that there were just too many and even questionable indie titles here and not enough new Sony IPs. Like why was something like "Bugsnacks" or "Volcano High" in this event or even NBA2K21? These games could've gotten replaced with a much better announcement of games from Sony. Imo for this event they kind of just... dropped the ball if I am being honest. Sony didn't show any new IPs besides a remake(Which I am excited for) and 3 sequels(Which I am also excited for) but still no new exclusive IPs from them. I am happy to see new interesting and fun looking games though like Ghost Wire Tokyo, Pragmata, Kena, Returnal, and Project Athia
@Exlee300p God of War was very mediocre.
@Mega-Gazz @Mega-Gazz I saw a picture somewhere online with it laying flat.
@JohnGrey
I always ask people this when they are upset, what could they have showed that would have changed your opinion?
It was an OK showing. Some really cool stuff and a lot of fluff. Some of those trailers were far too long and just didn’t get to the point. There’s still a lot we don’t know and a lot of that presentation told me 2021 is the year to check out the PS5, not 2020. Did the presentation meet my expectations? It was about what I expected from Sony.
I found it to all be rather disappointing and the only game that "looked" like it would REQUIRE next gen (instead of cross gen) was ratchet with all that quick teleporting but it felt kinda "canned" so even then it might not be as impressive as it looked.
Gran turismo 7 still shows LOD pop in and makes the idea of a "next gen ssd" seem a bit like marketing fluff.
Most of what was showed looks very much at home in ps4 or Xbox one x.
And that's the problem with Sony's plans the 2 years that Microsoft will support cross gen the games that will be "exclusive" on ps5 won't be any better than what can be done on the previous gen.
This presentation just pretty much confirmed it.
I also highly doubt most of these titles will be at 60fps they went with 30 fps for more than streaming reasons.
As for the console itself. Well it looks like no other console before it but I don't know if that's a good thing.
As far as thermals I see why Sony went with variable specs because this thing will not be able to run at max the majority of the time. Or it will be screaming like a banshee.
Steve at gamers nexus could tear the air flow design apart and point out why it's so inferior to the open air flow design of the Xbox series x.
Ill still buy one (I buy all of them) but to me this presentation just confirmed many of the thoughts I was already beginning to worry about.
The only thing left that Sony really has going for me is their first party AAA titles and even then I'm not interested in ratchet or demon souls.
Really only Horizon and resident evil 8 spoke to me and one of those ill be playing on my much more powerful gaming PC.
I just feel so bad for the Sony fanboys who are staying in full denial that Sony is up selling them on snake water.
Xbox series x and and Xbox one x will prove that this NEED for a next gen hard line in the sand is unnecessary as well not to mention they are just making sure they can resale you the same games over and over and not offering you any kind of "smart delivery" type system.
Then they go and copy Microsoft on an all digital system and though before Sony famys were tearing Microsoft up for making a "SAD" system and ur they are now eating it up acting like nits the best thing since sliced bread.
The system is ugly at full function and the digital edition just proves they really needed a bigger box and they have squeezed it in which with their closed off nature of the design cooling will be stressed.
Microsoft design points to an ability to keep its performance at max (and why they went with fixed clocks) and Sony's design screams a need to down throttle.
@sanderev Most of their games(on XBSX) are going to be on PC, as well as most of their 1st party. Isn't that the reason you're not getting a PS5 anyway? Where I come from, they call that being a hypocrite. By your logic, you shouldn't buy either console. Lol. I don't see a win here that you're claiming, but I do see plenty of fallacy from what I've from within your comments.
@AhmadSumadi I think his comment is hilarious because he claims Sony 1st party will be on PC in a few years(which hasn't been proven to be Sony's plan anyway), but he's going to buy an XBSX which most games including 1st party will be on PC practically day one. I don't get the whole logic in that, but I digress.
@Cybrshrk You really must want that commission money badly.
It surpassed my expectations. The wait was definitely worth it.
Was a bit disappointed that we didn’t see Silent Hill after all those rumours, but other than that it was great.
Will I get one at launch? Not sure, but then I’ve never bought a PlayStation at launch anyway. Depends on a lot of factors, but at the moment I’m much more likely to grab a PS5 than an XSX.
@maruse Your avatar fits you well. I also love your exaggerated responses. PS4 and Xbox One era had a number of remasters and remakes, but they make up less than 10% of their game libraries at most. Probably not even that. Get a grip.
@Akurusu So are your comments, but I digress.
@Shinobi1Kenoby From start to finish? Yeah...it's apparent you weren't going to be positive at all anyway. It's always amusing on how many just come to troll comment sections after events. Leave the console wars behind and grow up.
@YepYepYep Not sure why many don't like the console. I think it blends in quite well with it looking like a router. I believe most don't care for the design because they are so used to how previous hardware has looked over the years. To each their own.
@JohnGrey From where I sit, you just sound like someone who is nearly impossible to please.
@A356852 Fanboys are always around. Especially when such events happen.
Horizon and Ratchet look amazing! They really needed to be launch titles. I'm excited for Miles Morales, although it seems to be like Lost Legacy was to Uncharted 4 rather than a full-fledged sequel. Not enough for me to buy day 1 but I'll be all-in next year when I can get all three with my shiny new console ^_^
@InsertUsername 😂
Why is me holding a negative opinion trolling? I own and game every console since the NES, own and play PS1 through to PS4. My negative opinion is based on playing these consoles for 30 years. PlayStation peaked with the PS3 which was the best platform of that generation. The PS5 May be the first iteration of PlayStation I pass on entirely and have zero interest in as yesterday reveal only reinforced how poor Sony have become.
If you consider my opinion as trolling, I can only see you blind faith optimism as fanboy gushing.
The graphics were very underwhelming, no different to ps4, but the lineup is solid
@InsertUsername Do you really love my comments? That’s so nice of you, but you don’t really need to. I mean, different people, different opinion and all that stuff...
I have nothing at all against remasters and remakes (I’ve bought not a small number of those), but I still stand by my comment. Thank you very much.
@Blacksmith1985 If you heard, they said there is more to come before launch. They plan on having more events. I'm sure they'll talk more about the hardware in due time.
@maruse I also stand by what I said. I have my opinion on what I read from you, and I don't see it changing anytime soon. Good luck.
I thought it was great, but honestly, how worried was everyone when they started with Grand Theft Auto V?
Blown away more than I even expected. I was excited about nearly every game! Definitely worth the wait and am dying to get this console and many games!
There was no God of War 2 shown, nor the rumoured Silent Hill Reboot, I could've used more actual gameplay footage... but yeah, it was good. Better than Microsoft's event, and some of the games looked truly amazing. Demon's Souls, Ratchet and Clank and Horizon 2 are all amazing looking, and there was enough other things in there to keep me interested.
The console looked fairly ugly to me - the blu-ray version looks pregnant, and the digital one laying flat just looks plain wrong.
As for the games, most looked pretty good. Although the NPCs in Ratchet reminded me far too much of Jar Jar Binks...
Wasn't sure what to make of the console at first, but after seeing it on its side I have really come around to it, really hoping we get to see a black version.... I am so excited - tons of games announced/shown off last night that really took my by surprise. There are also a few of my most anticipated games that weren't included in the presentation (Dying Light 2, BF6, AC Valhalla to name a few).
I was so excited for the PS5, would have been my first Playstation console (not including the PsVita) since the PS2. But this reveal event actually put me off.
Watching it I couldn't help but compare to Nintendo Direct to be honest. There were what? 11 maybe 12 games announced? Most of which wouldn't be available until at least next year. Of them all only a handful left an impression. Whereas with Nintendo there's usually something for everyone, they talk about several of the games (expanding on maybe 3-4 of them), show trailers for 10+ games/dlc, have a montage of more games coming soon (usually another 10-15+) and then have a surprise teaser at the end.
Also what was with all those transitions? I swear 10-20 minutes of the thing was just transitions. Yes we get it there's a triangle, circle, cross (or x) and square. Thank you for showing us over and over again with super elaborate transitions that just weren't necessary. It felt like a) padding and b) they knew they didn't have much to talk about so they just tried to make it fancier.
GTA 5 and NBA just aren't interesting to me. Yay people can play the same GTA game just on another system, because it'll be soooo much different on the PS5 than it is on the PS4, PS3, xbox 360, xbox one, pc and xbox series x. As for NBA, sports games just don't do it for me. Same with Fifa, never got the hype, they may be different to the fans of the game but for me they're just the exact same game (as in NBA 2kXX is the same as NBA2k-whatever else).
There were some games that did look interesting. Spiderman, Godfall, Deathloop, Ghostwire: Tokyo, Hitman 3 and Demon's Souls all looked good. But there wasn't enough to sell me on "yes please take my money". I do like that actual gameplay was shown (take note Microsoft).
Designwise the PS5 would be triggering my asthma as it looks like the fans are exactly where dust would settle, therefore blowing dust right in my face and since I prefer physical discs I'd have to go for the physical edition which honestly is not very pleasing to look at.
The ending was just awful. Instead of some kind of montage of upcoming games they gave a montage of faces from companies behind the PS5, stating how amazing it is, clearly because they were offended by how many people preferred the Xbox Series X specs and yet again to show that they didn't have much to talk about.
All in all I'd say this presentation was better at showing off gameplay than Microsoft, but wasn't anything overly impressive to someone who hasn't owned a Playstation console in a while. Between design, lack of experience with the types of games shown and lack of games that interest me personally at launch, I'll probably wait and see what happens.
Edit: went back to check, there were more games announced than I initially remembered, but just goes to show how forgettable/uninteresting to me personally most of them were
@InsertUsername yes, but this is already obvious that there's some restrictions about BC, I only hope we will have PS4 gen totally covered.
Honestly, I'm not interested in deeper PS3, 2,1 BC. Those games are far too old to dedicate time to them today.
I enjoyed seeing Horizon. But beyond that, I'd say 1/2 was embarrassingly bad, 1/4 I didn't care about and 1/4 I somewhat cared about. Like... who starts a show of new hardware and what it's capable of with "Hey, we like this 7 year old game from 2 generations ago, it's going on be on our new machine and take our word for it, the visuals will get a bump (that's not ready to show, so here's a look at it on the PS4) at some point". So let down.
@InsertUsername Hey look! It looks like Sony wants you to buy a “remastered” Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS5! A remastered two years old game...
But I was exaggerating... wasn’t I? Oh well ¯(ツ)/¯
@kappasig390 As I stated in my original post, I'm not upset I'm utterly indifferent to the system based on what's currently on offer. The hardware reveal was whatever, it's a box so I couldn't care less how it looks. Very little that I saw felt unique.
HFW: Sequel
Spider-Man DLC: More of the Same
Demon's Souls: Remake
GTA V 12: Just trying to challenge Bethesda for Skyrim's most-system-releases crown.
Soulstorm: Abe's Exodus remake
Pragmata: Feels like Death Stranding again, which I abhorred
The rest was just meh. The only things that seemed remotely interesting to me, oddly enough, was Stray. That's an experience I haven't had a blue million times.
@InsertUsername From where I sit, you seem incredibly easy to please. Interesting how that can be turned around, eh?
@hush404 Even 25% would be too generous for the games I care about but your post basically expresses my experience.
@Broosh yea, there's a stand in one of the pics that shows it lays horizontal.
@ButtButton Thank goodness lol I think back to when someone walked by and accidentally kicked over my standing-360. Never stood up a console again.
It was okay, I wasn't really expecting anything though. Most of the games that they showed off I'm looking forward to I can play on my PC, so not really anything to sell me on the console yet. Spiderman and Horizon (and maybe Sackboy) are the only exclusives that look appealing to my tastes.
@Broosh Haha I've never stood up my console since it doesn't exactly distribute heat properly on all sides.
The console reveal was a pleasant surprise for me. I expected a sequel to Horizon and I was not disappointed The presentation did meet my expectations and even more... Kena was my favorite game of the show.
Very good, I was freaking hyped and shouting in joy when they announced Miles Morales, Rift Apart, Demon's Souls, and HZD Forbidden Wilds.
The other games looked cool too but waiting to see actual gameplay first.
@JohnGrey completely understand, I appreciate you expounding on your thoughts! I enjoy getting all sides of an issue, makes me a better writer
I definitely agree, if you're looking for something truly new, there wasn't a lot of it. There's old formulas done in new ways for sure (Deathloop is a good example) but not too many new game ideas.
Sadly I don't think there is a lot of proof that new and different pays the bills. Dreams is that, and while it looks like it will be successful in the long run, it's going to be a slog. The annual sports and COD entries selling millions just reinforces it for Sony, and I can't blame them for it, but for gamers like you wanting a new experience, they are few and far between.
@kappasig390

From a business perspective, I can't fault them. They're a business and their duty to their shareholders is to maximise profit.
I've been a gamer since I got the Nintendo Action Set for Christmas of '87 and I have difficulty not describing myself as a gamer, but increasingly I'm realising that the modern trends of gaming aren't for me. The last game I played on my PS4 was Death Stranding (abysmal), the last game on PC was Disco Elysium (tedious but at least had some novel mechanics).
I don't know why, I just feel tired. Very little in games excites me now.
@JohnGrey No doubt, those games are derivative and repetitive and soul sucking, but they pay for the better experiences so I am glad they happen as well, Sony definitely needs those to do it's duty to the shareholders.
I think we have all gotten to the point where you are now, I've been in gaming about as long as you (Atari 2600!!) and everyone gets burned out sometimes.
To me, the type of game isn't as important as the story, so I could play 15 open world games but if one comes along with a great story, I'm all in. But I see what you mean, there aren't a ton of new ideas out there, just different twists and stories at times.
Hopefully with Shuhei running the indie side of the shop now, we will see Sony get back to supporting those studios and some different, new ideas will result.

With someone like Jim Ryan in the center seat, I have no confidence at all in Playstation or SIE putting art on even equal footing with profitability. He gives the impression of a shameless pettifogger that would cut your stomach open if he thought you'd swallowed a penny. I suppose we shall see.
