In the absence of E3 2020, Electronic Arts took its annual EA Play event online to debut just some of the games it plans to launch in the near future and a few that are further out. Done via a digital showcase, the publisher revealed the first gameplay for Star Wars: Squadrons and focused on sports titles including FIFA 21 and Madden NFL 21. The next co-op game from Hazelight Studios was also announced, named It Takes Two, alongside more titles from the EA originals program. That being Lost in Random. EA also had one big surprise in the form of the return of Skate with no footage whatsoever.
As always, we want to know what you thought of the presentation. Did Electronic Arts impress you with a solid digital conference full of interesting titles or do you land on the opposite end of the spectrum? Place your vote in our poll and expand on your thoughts in the comments below.

1/4 of it was racial empowerment
1/4 was people talking about how they want to make games instead of making them
1/4 was ports
and 1/4 was actual new stuff
Bust!
I'm actually annoyed I stayed up for it.
The squadrons footage and semi breakdown was nice.
Heres Skate news you've all been waiting for, but we have nothing to show you. The rest just didn't feel like they really had anything to say. Just seems to be the usual spit, polish and rerelease.
It was a complete lackluster event tbh. It didn't do anything for me. Disappointed overall
Shockingly abysmal.
The show did the exact OPPOSITE of what I wanted, lol, since it showed that Dragon Age 4 is probably years away from being a finished game (nevermind Bioware working on a new Mass Effect).
Squadrons looks like it'll be fun if the microtransactions are only delegated to cosmetics. Other than that, they'll have my gratitude if they ever do a ME Trilogy remaster.
Very Poor, waste of my time.
Complete trash as usual. The indie games were the highlight of the show. Says alot about EA.
Some of the ea originals stuff was interesting but this was just so boring and plain in general. EA really have not much this year do they lol
Lost in Random looks interesting, Squadrons okay but the rest? Who cares about all.these old games coming to Steam? Have a separate event for such reveals.
EA teased us though by mentioning BioWare and fantasy worlds. Does this mean Dragon Age 4 is around the corner? I hope so!
No Mass Effect news though. ☹️
Poor show overall.
Baffles me what they actually do with there riches besides giving it to the execs... Cause they don't make many games! The fact they've had the star wars licence for so many years and have made 3 games!!! If they can't be bothered let someone else have a go!
Not the worst thing I’ve seen but comes close. Star Wars doesn’t look too bad and Skate coming back is brilliant news. There was just a lack of tangibility, everything felt unfinished.
I give that presentation,
Two Enthusiastic Thumbs Down.
Utterly, utterly awful. Worst kind of corporate self congratulatory BS, and fake camaraderie. Hot air and lack of any new ideas. EA are like this rudderless ship that you just know is heading for stormy seas. There's just no originality in their games, and no joy, Respawns Star Wars game is starting to feel like a fluke.
star wars squadrons looks amazing - first star wars game i've been hyped about in ages and in VR too!! cant wait to play that game
That is a question right?
If there is no FIFA for them, this company might actually go under. Bored to death live stream.
@Scoobijohn could be good, but it could also be a micro-transaction nightmare. I'll reserve judgement until I've seen the business plan and the fine print. Just don't trust EA anymore not to try and fleece you at every turn.
Irrelevant. Just like the last year one.
With the bad news that Apex will now be unplayable with PC cheaters.
I could've been in bed.
55 mins of my life I'll never get back.
@SirAngry not really played any ea games in ages so cant say much on that - but for a vr star wars dogfighting game i think i'm willing to be fleeced
Atrocious. Not sure what happened to EA but they've been awful all gen and it doesn't look like they're going to get any better.
For as much crap as Activision gets, at least they're willing to throw a bone to fans with stuff like Crash and Spyro and more recently Tony Hawk.
When even Activision is more interesting, you know you've got a problem.
I'm not so down on EA like apparently most people are, so I quite liked their presentation. I actually look forward to see what EA shows every year. This wasn't their best, but it did have some interesting games I'm looking forward to try.
It's telling that the main highlight was them saying a new Skate is going to be made, with zero other details. That said, Lost in Random and It Takes Two seem fun.
Even though majority of the things didnt appeal to me, I thought it at least a decent presentation. Squadrons looks great and was certainly the highlight but I dont think it was as bad as many are making it out to be, shrugs..
Dreadful. I'm glad I watched the replay & skip most of it haha
Lost in Random was the only good thing to me. Squadrons looks super shallow, like the kind of Star Wars game EA should've made when they first got the license, just to get their feet wet.
Frankly, it was waste of theirs and ours time. Should have collabed with other event and it would have made it be much better. Now we saw like 3 new games and got SKATE confirmed, which is nice. The star wars game looks awful tho
I remember the year they bought Jose out to announce managers in games and Alex hunter to announce a new mode. Now FIFA just gets a joint trailer that barely showed anything. Nice to see where our money goes
I genuinely think Bioware might be shut down before DA4 is finished. Though they pretty much effectively have been since I don't think there's many, or any, key staff from the actual Bioware left now. It's like Theseus' ship.
At one point someone said something like, "And now, let's show you some more games."
And then it cut to more people talking. 🤷♂️
10 seconds of Dragon Age was the best part, other than Star Wars. I'm eager to see more of both.
That was horrible. They should've saved their money and not do anything. They had basically nothing to show.
I wanted to see Star Wars Squadrons and it looks great!
The rest was boring to me.
EA had a event ? O.o
It Takes Two was the only thing that interested me. The rest was either bland or cringe-inducing. As for the Skate announcement, it's EA. They'll find some way to screw that up.
All the time they spent telling us how WOKE they are...who gives a sh*t...by the looks of the trailer...the Empire is led by women after Jedi....I saw 3 women in power each of a different race....oh boy...that’ll show us...🙄
Glad i didn't watch live, what a crock. Still no Dragon Age 4 gameplay, what the hell?
@SirAngry Didn’t they say a firm no to micro transactions?
I can’t wait for more Star Wars in VR. I still play the free VR mission in Battlefront every now and again.
As for the rest of the EA Play... snore fest.
An absolute waste of time. What I don't get is how/why EA is so bad at this. They've been appalling at E3 for years. It seems like they show up because they feel they have to but they never have anything to show to justify an hour or whatever it is. So why bother? It's not like we'll forget to buy FIFA because they didn't do this. This was the perfect year to take a year off, but no, here's a pointless stream.
Literally the only thing we want from you is Mass Effect and then go away.
I missed the show as I was working. Sounds like I didn’t miss much. I’ll check out the Star Wars gameplay shortly. I don’t believe the Mass Effect remasters rumour, surely if it was coming this year why would it not be announced?
Good job there wasn’t an E3 for them to try and pad three days out with that truck load of new info........
Madden and FIFA with nothing new at all.
Squadrons..... still not convinced this is worth bothering with.
Skate..... no.
Everything else? I’ve forgotten already.
I thought it was pretty good. Skate 4 was a more surprising announcement than anything in the PS5 reveal, and I love their approach to next gen. As much as we'd love proper next-gen games at launch like the old days, it's just not possible when dev cycles are 4/5 years or longer. Any game launching on PS5 this holiday was not started with PS5 in mind. It will be holiday 2022 before real next-gen games come along.
I didnt see the point. Should have dropped the squadrons trailer on monday and the other news in press releases. Skate had already leaked before the show which blunted the impact - but the fact they didnt even have a proof of concept trailer for their closing game is just baffling. This isnt how you reveal games in 2020.
It seemed more of a desperate attempt to appease shareholders that they are finally showing an interest in nintendo switch (i think they said 7 games coming this year)
EA are in desperate need of a shot in the arm and some creativity sadly lacking since they released dead space and mirrors edge
Didn't stay up for this as I knew it would be average at best. Very disappointed that all BioWare got was a couple of screenshots. Just maakes it seem like they're struggling so badly.
One good thing I'll say is that Lost in Random looks really cool - a playable Tim Burton/Henry Selick movie with more than a few influences from American McGee's Alice series? Yes please!
Wow I'm just skimming through it now and its appalling, 36 minutes before anything even remotely interesting is shown and before that virtually no gameplay with Apex, an old Command and Conquer and something that looked like Fortnite. Probably about 8 minutes of gameplay in nearly an hour, absolutely pathetic
The only good thing about watching this was the company here at pushsquare.
Only wanted to see game in their next gen form so I just played the last of us part 2 while it was on
@SoulChimera I also heard no MT and I'm looking forward to VR space fighting.
@SegaBlueSky
Bioware is a studio on life support why would they promote them after a number of high profile failures.
@hotukdeals Because otherwise there's no point keeping them on life support, surely? Why would you continue to waste money on hundreds of staff and ongoing development if you were going to just let them die quietly? Either get behind them or shut them down, anything in between is kinda pointless.
Admittedly, I buy FIFA, because me and a mate play co-op regularly - well, we did until COVID-19.
Outside of that, EA haven't really made anything much of note (for me personally) since about halfway through the PS3 generation. Apart from FIFA, the only things I've bought of theirs are Battlefield 4 and A Way Out... and the latter is not even really their product.
I picked up SWBF2 as it's on Plus, but even that was only really because a couple of mates have it and it's something different to play online during lockdown.
When I think back over the years (been gaming for 40+), EA was once probably my favourite publisher. They released many original, unique, fun titles, with a ton of variety. Now? It's mostly just by-the-numbers rehashes of the same few games year after year, and even those which were once something special they've managed to make old and stale via sheer repetitiveness, while simultaneously shelving/killing some of their better, more original franchises.
Absolutely brilliant!
