Update: The 30-second The Last of Us: Part II television commercial was already epic, but its full-length extended version is a minute of pure hype. We've embedded it above, but you can watch the broadcast edit below as well.
Original Story: You didn't think Sony was going to launch The Last of Us: Part II without a big television commercial campaign, did you? Eagle-eyed fans have spotted the embedded CGI ad running on networks in the United States, and it features Ellie singing a spot of New Order.
We're going to assume there's a longer version of this that the platform holder will publish at some point in the near future. In the meantime, enjoy the 30-second spot above and let us know what you think in the comments section below.

this should dampen the concerns that the game might have been delayed again due to the riots.
it would have been a logistical nightmare to delay it anyway now that it has gone gold for a while now,and review copies having been send out etc,regardless of the current times.
It looks epic day ****ing one. 😃
Bit of a weird choice to air it now. Also kinda weird that it's CGI; I thought the days of CGI trailers were long gone!
I think that's ps5 gameplay
@wiiware that's a CGI trailer.
@Octane ubisoft still does CGI trailers for AC,also sony does CGI trailers for their big exclusives every now and than.
@Octane As good as in-game and real-time cutscene graphics have gotten, pre-rendered CG will always look better. After all, they are produced on infinitely more powerful hardware than what $300 gets us now, or $500 will buy in November. I think the idea is to be representative of the product as a whole, rather than to showcase the gameplay graphics. I think Sony has done CG trailers for God of War, Spider-Man and Days Gone, if I'm not mistaken.
That said, I hope the next-generation consoles can get us a step closer to the quality of the CG trailers.
It comes out on a Friday too. Feck it. I'm booking the day off work now.
I'm getting quite excited for this now.
@jdv95 Yes I know, it's a cg like god of war and horizon zd ads, I'm just joking 😃
@wiiware oops my bad! the joke flew over my head
@Shepherd_Tallon
Work? Does that still exist? 🤔
@Spoonman-2 Our company had already set us up to work from home when needed a few years ago, so when the lock down came we were already good to go with no issues.
Thats good news
Not much longer to wait now.
TLOU2 gameplay looks amazing in action why devs feel the need to have CG trailers nowadays baffles me
@jdv95 Correction. Sony does CGI trailers for all their AAA games.
@Turismo4GT @jdv95 But the game looks amazing on its own, why hide it behind a CGI trailer?! I rather see in-game footage than something that simply isn't the game.
But the face model for the CGI looks different from the in-game one. At least we haven't seen in-game Ellie with that passing-a-kidney-stone look. I guess we can joke that it's her stunt model...
@Octane I'm totally speculating here, but judging by the visuals and animation used on all of these PS exclusive CGI commercials, I believe Sony has a separate studio/division for making these and doesn't want to trouble Naughty Dog (or other studios) with the task of making these.
The way I see it, all these CGI TV ads have two things in common: The CGI animation graphics (As well as a little bit of colors!) and they all focus on action.
@Sam-Bridges Yeah that's a possibility.
Am I the only one who thinks that the first game was over rated and this one will probably be, too? Can't get away from news about it. It's almost like the whole leaking footage and "WE'RE NOT RELEASING IT FOR AGES NOW BECAUSE U ALL SUCK AS FANS." thing was a giant marketing strat.
Update: Yes, the extended version is pure hype, can't wait for the game
@Jayofmaya Nah, I played the first game on ps4 and the game is already in my top 5 best game ever. Also the first game sold like 20M, reviews really well, and bested zelda botw for the titles of the best game ever on metacritic user ranking. The game resonate really well with gamer, critics, and sales.
That is powerful.
@Turismo4GT this looks better to you than the game? To me it doesn't...I notice right away when it's CG and it becomes uncanny to me for some reason
There is not much I hate in life....................But females copying other songs and turning them into dowdy surly drabbs is excruciating God dam EMOs.
Any chance this trailer could be made on the PS5?
Preordered today as a little birthday present to ,myself for 23rd, yay!
This song really got me in tears, the emotions here are really tangible, love and hate intertwined, can't wait to experience this whole universe. And what a trailer, if next gen games could look like this it would be a dream.
Looking forward to this preordered on the playstatiom store the other day, told me i can predownload from the 12th so gonna tease me all that time till release 🙈
@AFCC In context, yes, it does look better than the in-game graphics. That's taking away nothing from the game at all, because it looks incredible. The great thing is that, come June 19, I can play what I've seen of the game graphics on my 'lowly' 1.82 TF PS4. I'll probably have to wait at least another console generation before I can play graphics that look as refined as that CG trailer.
Anyone know when the review embargo is lifted for this?
Ah reminds me to preorder it. I’ve avoided all spoilers so hope it’s good.
That is a really good CG extended commercial... Lighting is superb, animation and camera movement/transition is smooth, shot composition is excellent. Any one that actually knows and works with high-end CG pretty much will love this.
@IamNotPerfect And in the end the games always look fantastic. 😃👍
As if I needed extra incentive to buy the game. Okay Sony, I'll double dip.
@Jayofmaya Yes you are clearly the only one that thinks it is over rated...Sees thousands of tweets on Twitter saying it's over rated Clearly....
Anyways I don't think it's over rated. I think it deserves all of the praise it gets and hopefully the sequel as well.
@Nepp67 Not all of us use a quite frankly pointless social media platform that limits any sort of statement you can make and offers nothing more than what is offered in things like Facebook or YouTube.
@Jayofmaya I mean you can search right on the internet for yourself if you think "You're the only one" that thinks it's over rated.
@Number09
I was thinking the same thing. There are far too many of those sad despair type girls ruining songs in these trailers. And also if I hear another hush little baby song played for another horror game I will lose my mind.
Not watching it. Only 15days just under two weeks to go, I was hoping Sony was going to address if you brought TLOU2 for the PS4 Pro, will i have to buy it again on PS5 for the obviously upgraded graphics & performance. Yes PS5 has BC and not doubt games like this will be on PS5 BC, but that doesn't mean it'll have upgraded graphics & performance.
I’ve seen the leaks. No thanks
@Jayofmaya Nope you’re not the only one. Although over-rated was an understatement during my experience; spent most of the game lamenting I couldn’t use the many bricks in the game against a certain NPC.
Although considering I only bought the game at launch because Blockbuster was out of rental copies for days and I wanted to give the pre-order iPhone case to a girl I had a crush on at the time, I guess I got what I deserved. £45 blown to the wind and a distaste for loose bricks.
@FX102A Aww man. I remember blockbuster. Think my home town lost it's one when I was like 10 haha Did you at least get the girl?
@Jayofmaya Nope, but still good friends with her. Eventually found someone better though; even convinced her to marry me. She isn’t a gamer but she fully respects the hobby
@FX102A Well, a happy ending anyway. Similar story here, used to have a gamer girlriend but it was terribly tough as her insecurities basically just kept it just us and no social time. The one time I got her to go to a music festival with me she ended up meeting someone she dated after we broke up. Funny how things go. My partner now doesn't game either, but enjoys getting me a game for anniversary/bday/xmas too! Always fun to reminisce.
