Ready At Dawn, the developer behind PlayStation 4 exclusive The Order: 1886, has been snapped up by Facebook. As the company explains, the newly acquired group will be "joining the Oculus Studios team". In other words, Ready At Dawn will continue working with the VR platform -- it's already shipped four titles on Oculus, starting back in 2017 with Lone Echo.
As PlayStation fans, that's about all there is to this story. The Order: 1886 was quite a divisive release, but it's a shame that it'll likely never get a sequel. Sony owns the property, but it's anyone's guess as to whether it'll ever be revived.
Naturally, wish Ready At Dawn all the best in the VR space.

Darn, there goes my The Order 1887 then.
I enjoyed 1886 for what it was.
Hopefully one of the PlayStation studios will pick it up and create another great game
Ready at dawn and Mixer in one day. Facebook on a roll today
So to my mind, every studio that made big exclusive games for Oculus have been bought by Facebook, Ready at Dawn with Lone Echo, Sanzaru Games with Asgard's Wrath. Except one...Insomniac. I'm almost adamant that Facebook wanted to buy them but either Sony put in a higher bid or Insomniac said we'll join you Sony if you can match the terms.
Now excuse me while I wipe the sweat from my brow.
Disappointing for sure. The Order while painfully short had the foundation of a really great story/series. Though i beat it and got the platinum in a day I really enjoyed it and was hoping for a sequel eventually.
What? A surprise tbh
I had the feeling they were working on a PS5 game with the devs praising the PS5 lately.
this kinda suprises me.
i was almost sure we would get a sequel some day.
While I enjoyed The Order, it had the most missleading trailer I've seen. I really felt robbed.
Very good news, just like Remedy getting married with Epic Publisher.
That way Sony won't be tempted to buy it.
Sad. I actually like these guys. I was one of few that actually enjoyed The Order
The Order 1886 had potential in the story department. I know I've said it before on the site, but the game ends when it felt like a turning point in the story. Something new that would give the character a new goal to fight for then it just poof ended.
The game was fun while it lasted.
NOOOOO! I really wanted a sequel
The sequel could be way better than the original in this case, but honestly if the same devs are not involved I would prefer they would forget the franchise!
Fair enough. Not the greatest loss for Sony but never good to lose a developer.
The timed exclusives for the PS5 make a bit more sense now.
@AdamNovice The idea of Insomniac being bought/joining Facebook would have been a disaster for the studio and the gaming world... Thank god that didn't happen.
@Alucard-XII A sequel can still happen, Sony owns the IP. They can just give it to another team if they want something new.
Really glad the guys and gals at RaD have got so.e security now at least. Trying to keep a studio open and your staff employed is as stressful as hell in this industry, so I'm sure the heads will sleep easier now.
I had hoped Sony would give them another chance because I thought they deserved it. The Order 1886 had promise, it was their first full rodeo and although it wasn't a good game there were all the elements of a good game, it just needed a bit of work. I kinda felt after hearing them in interviews they knew where it went wrong and what they needed to do. It's a shame.
@JJ2 To be fair, Push Square had an article almost every day about a different dev loving the PS5. Looking forward to the article about Sammy’s mate Dave who really thinks the PS5 has potential 😉
Lone Echo is one of the best games on Oculus so I’m pretty glad they will continue to make VR games.
Now if Sony takes up Jason Rubin’s offer of swapping exclusives then all the PS VR players can see why it’s so good.
Wow that a crazy news.word up son
Disappointing because for as flawed as it was I enjoyed The Order 1886 enough that I hoped Sony and Ready at Dawn would some day revisit it. Best of luck to Ready at Dawn though, hopefully it has a good run with Facebook/Oculus.
Well, Push Square nailed it with their "low" rating for the chances of Sony acquiring Ready at Dawn.

Sony should just buy another studio up and have them continue The Order series. I mean, it’s their property. They don’t have to have Ready at Dawn working on it. Just my two cents though, the series has potential if they can find the right team for the job.
Goddamn it. The world and lore is top notch and us begging to be expanded upon. I kind of feel sorry for ready at dawn. Since the bad release of the order they kind of just been passed around
I was one of the few that actually liked the order. Shame Sony didn’t snap these guys up...
I've still never played The Order 1886 and had forgotten about it, assuming I would have played it on PSPlus by now.
As far as the acquisition by Facebook...I guess if they felt that was the right thing for their company. But anything related to Facebook is just kind of whatever to me. It's difficult to imagine them being a major player in the gaming industry.
That's too bad I was looking forward to more from that studio on the ps5. I quite liked the Order 1886, but I also got it for less than 5 dollars. So, expectations were low. I hope they find some success with Facebook.
Agree with a lot of what's already been said. I didn't particularly like The Order 1886 as a game, but I thought the characters and the world were really interesting. A sequel could go a long way.
Like the article says, Sony still owns the IP, but without Ready At Dawn, I wouldn't hold your breath.
@ShogunRok Would be Bonkers if that Rumored Action adventure game from the also rumored new Studio in San Diego was a sequel to The Order and not a new Uncharted! 👀
Sad news indeed. I'm all in for The Order 1887
The Order 1886 was a great game. Just not at 60$ I bought it for a tenner and it was a steal!
I think Sony just wants to pretend that The Order didn't exist.
Sony owns the IP for The Order 1886. They can commission another studio for the sequel.
The next acquisition for Sony should be Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The Spiderman 2018 is probably the best Marvel game in recent memory and I know Sony can do the same thing for the DC Universe.
Does this mean that the possibility for a The Order 1886 sequsl are slim? If so, then that's a shame. The Order was personally not my cup of tea but I can see the sequel improving many of the first game's shortcomings.
what games does facebook own?
The order had so much potential shame we will probably never get a sequel now
Never finished The Order 1886. Maybe someday get back to it.
Loved Lone Echo. One of my first Wow moments in VR last Christmas. Lone Echo 2 is day 1 on PC for me.
In a perfect gaming world it Should come to PSVR now that the PS5 can handle it. Graphics are stunning.
God speed RAD.
@Danloaded can you explain to me what this actually means please? I'm not on Facebook and had no idea they were involved in gaming.
Sony should acquire Bluepoint after they wrap up Demon's souls. I'm sure they'd make a fantastic game and sequel.
@Agramonte The game was like 3 hours long, how did you not finish it?
That's it then. I'll have to cancel my pre-Order 1887 copy!
Gamers should not be suprised that the Order never got a sequel when it sems that most players only bought it when it was deeply on sale.
My favourite. I am huge fan of werewolves, vampires, and greek mythology like God of War's monsters!
@Makina
Was this you after they bought Insomniac.
That's a shame for any potential PS5 games.
Ready at Dawn made great PSP titles. Kinda was holding out that they may be given option to make a Jak & Daxter 4.
@ankehuber @thefirst just because RAD have been snapped up it doesn't mean there won't be a sequel, Sony own the rights to The Order and they've got a good set of teams that would do an amazing job with it
Hi there fellow gamers. The Order 1886 was and still is one of the most beautiful games on the PS4. It´s visuals set a high bar for other games to come. Sadly, the game itself had issues that prevented it from being great. Very short and linear, lots of unecessary QTEs, forced walking (to apreciate all those visuals), poor A.I. But the thing that frustrated me the most was that when the story of the game started to become interesting, the game ends. Just like that. And it is a story and a universe with a lot of potential. With that being said, I´m hoping someone at Sony picks this one up and make a proper sequel. All the Best for the Ready at Dawn studios in their new endevors. Cheers and happy gaming to us all
garbage game 'shoot barrels' no thanks
@ankehuber I don't think there would be a sequel since the frist one was received poorly.
@AdamNovice I don't think so. Insomniac didn't develop a VR game.
@East76landS they've started getting into vr gaming recently. They acquired the company that made Beat Saber not too long ago
Dang, I was looking forward to a sequel that would hopefully improve on the criticisms of the first one, the story was going in an interesting direction... A shame.
@Danloaded Did they acquire the company from Sony?
Bummer. I really enjoyed The Order 1886. It was basically Gears of War with werewolves, but I like the Gears franchise as well.
The only disappointment, for me, is that the game only supports Stereo.
@ankehuber Another studio could technically make it because I believe it's Sony property. I wouldn't hold my breadth because the original did not sell well. It was never going to happen.
The order. One game ive heard ao much about and never actually played. I think i might have to hunt it down. I know its short but ive heard almost nothing but praise for it.
sony made a huge mistake in not purchasing RAD. the order was only their FIRST AAA game and they did an incredible job on it. you can see how talented the studio was in that they created one of the most beautiful games on the ps4 as well as one of the most original in terms of its setting and world building. yes, it had flaws, but they were not game breaking. short length and linear game design is not something i would deem unforgivable. the misleading marketing of the game is more to blame here than the game itself — in that it gave some people false expectations. that said, this is a textbook example of a franchise that had a great foundation and a huge amount of potential, only to be thrown under the bus. to make matters worse, it looks as though sony caved to the hostile and toxicity of the internet to determine the fate of the order and RAD. how embarassing of sony to lack the foresight here to give RAD another shot at it.
@East76landS they made a lot of games for them but Sony never owned them.
But Sony still own the rights to The Order? That's the bit confusing me.
@vhsodre They did, they made 4 games for Oculus actually. Edge of Nowhere, Feral rites, The Unspoken and Stormland.
Everyone's mentioning The Order but these guys also made the amazing Daxter PSP spin-off, one of the best 3D platformers ever made, it's a shame they've gone to facebook, these would have been the perfect devs to make a new Jak & Daxter game, guess the series will languish in the shadows for a bit longer
@Toadie Daxter and both God of War on PSP.
@AdamNovice Anything special or just so so?
@East76landS It's fairly common for a studio to make a game for a publisher who'll retain the rights to the IP. Same reason as to why Crash and Spyro have nothing to do with Naughty Dog and Insomniac today
the order property is owned by sony so I don't see why It likely wouldn't have a sequel. Sony could just hire any studio or use one of their first parties to do the game. Anyway, great acquisition to Facebook.
@Danloaded last question, do Facebook have a particular affiliation to anyone?
Good for them if that's what they want.
I'm glad Sony owns The Order though.
It would be great if a sequel did happen.
Not a fan of Facebook. This game was like an old hammer horror movie i really enjoyed it.
