Yakuza: Like a Dragon represents a major departure for the franchise, but according to reviews of the Japanese version at least, it's still a really great game. The western version is currently scheduled to launch at the end of this year, it's even an Xbox Series X launch title, and this lengthy slice of footage is our best look at the English edition yet. We've got 14 minutes worth of gameplay which dives into all sorts of shenanigans.
We get a really good look at the new turn-based battle system, complete with abilities such as Pigeon Raid and skills like Boundless Cheer. Elsewhere, you can still run about the city and complete goofy side stories while in-depth mini-games make their triumphant return. Can Quest is an optional activity where you collect cans spread throughout the city and Dragon Kart is kart racing with rocket launchers. There'll also be a business management side story where Ichiban takes over a failing confectionary company and turns it into a profitable business once more. This is still classic Yakuza, isn't it?
Unfortunately, there is still no word on a PlayStation 5 version. At least we can still play the game on our current-gen Sony system. Are you excited to play Yakuza: Like a Dragon? Take your turn in the comments below.

I like the look of the combat. Have to admit, the characters standing around shooting mean glances at each other while the player chooses a command looks goofy for some reason.
Game looks great, I can't wait.
Makes me wonder what kind of deal MS did with the RGG Studio. They seem to have a partnership of some sorts for this launch.
Words cannot express how excited I am for this game. The latest rush of joy I got from this game is finding out it has Persona style social links. I don't know how much better this game can get.
Looks great. Love turn based RPGs (and love Yakuza games), so excited about this from day 1
Just watched the video. I am still nervous about the combat. It is certainly yakuza style turn-based combat, but I don't know, it just doesn't look as fun to me. The minigames could be interesting based on the commentary, and yakuza normally has a good story but I don't think I'll know if I like it until I play it which is a shame.
I JUST got into the Yakuza series this year with Yakuza Zero and am now playing Kiwami 1. Initially, I thought I would just finish Zero, then I got through most of 1, and I have no burnout because it's so enjoyable--so waiting for a sale to get Kiwami 2, the Remastered collection, 6, and will decide if I really want Judgment or not before getting Like A Dragon for sure.
Really hope there's a demo of this, love the Yakuza series but absolutely detest turn based combat. Maybe a demo could win me over.
The protagonist reminds me of the awful awful Liam from ME Andromeda.
@ApostateMage I'm willing to bet this guy is at least 100,000x more interesting and more cohesively written than Liam. To this day, I still can't work out what the hell BioWare was trying to do with that character.
I'm not a fan of turn based combat so I'll be passing on this one.
@ShogunRok "I just p**sed that guy off, maybe because I shot him in the face"
....................
@ApostateMage Crazy how that example is just one of many "what the ****" moments when it comes to Liam. Genuinely baffling character!
@ShogunRok Skimming through these comments and seeing my name pop up threw me through a loop.
@Shigurui I wish it wasn't turn based. I'll be waiting for the next Yakuza game or Judgement 2. I just can't accept this change.
@LiamCroft You're a much better character than Liam, Liam.
@LiamCroft @ShogunRok What will be the next big event that should cover more of this game?
I'm still holding out hope it will get a PS5 port...unfair that the Series X is only getting it in terms of next gen.
@KidBoruto I'm not sure it'll be part of another big event like the PS5 showcase or Xbox presentation. It could show up at the New Game+ Expo later this month but that's the only thing that comes to mind.
I think it's more likely that SEGA will just promote the game itself, with trailers and press releases from this point on.
@ShogunRok Well for their sake I hope a PS5 port is announced .
