After a PlayStation Store listing was spotted overnight, Cuphead has been officially announced for PlayStation 4 via a Summer Game Fest livestream put on by host Geoff Keighley. Better yet, it's available right now on the PlayStation Store for £15.99/$19.99. The upcoming Delicious Last Course DLC will also launch on PS4 day and date with other platforms.
What makes this release so interesting is the fact that Studio MDHR wanted to very quickly stamp out any possibility of a PS4 version all the way back in 2017. "There will be no PS4 version" is what was said at the time. Since then, Cuphead has released on Nintendo Switch and even Tesla cars of all places. Now, finally, it comes to Sony's current-gen console.
Here's a link to the PlayStation Store listing. Will you be checking out Cuphead? Let us know in the comments below.

Well there we go. Good news for everyone who hasn’t played it yet!
Was hoping we'd get some news on the DLC other than it "still being worked on".
Awesome that it's finally coming to PS4 though. It's such a fantastic game.
Meh, I'll pass on this one ☹️
I’ve honestly got no desire to buy this. Given out as a ps+ game I’d add it to library probably, but I couldn’t see myself ever actually playing since there are so many games I actually want to play in my backlog.
Ive got it on Switch and I love the art style while the gameplay is pretty good.
Pleased that PlayStation gamers finally have access to a game that's never coming to PS4, ever, period... You simply can't trust anything Phil Spencer says. lol. Joking, joking before the fanboys start in. Cuphead is a great little game and I'm genuinely glad a number of people I know will now get to play it.
Argh! I am already playing death stranding and Thronebreaker but I don’t know if I can resist this...
Oh my god. I just realised that the delicious last course stands for dlc.
Anyone who hasn't played this, give it a go, you won't regret it! It's difficult but impossible to put down, I love it a lot
That make my day.pushsquare is the g.o.a.t. mad respect from you guys in the 🇬🇧 uk.if it wasnt for you guys a lot of people wouldn't know a lot of games.word ☝ up son
When I had an Xbox I loved playing it with a friend, I'm trying to buy it right now and I can't find it though 😭😭 I NEED IT
FALSE ALARM I just bought it (: I need online play though cause I have no friends 😭😭 lol
Fantastic news for anyone who hasn't played it! If you haven't, and only own a PS4, by all means don't miss out on this game!
It's not exactly a masterpiece, but it's very good, and a one-of-a-kind experience.
@Daleaf You were asking about co-op just the other day: well, this game is a blast with another person! 😁
>"There will be no PS4 version" is what was said at the time.
Always hard to take this kind of statement seriously. I remember way back when Shinji Mikami said he'd commit harakiri if RE4 came out on PS2 (translated in English media as "cut off my own head".)
This is great news! I’ve actually been waiting on the Switch physical version to be released but will wait to see if there will be a physical PS4 copy.
@Katon that would be wise. a ps4 physical copy (complete edition) seems likely once the dlc is released later this year.
Quite a surprise but great for anyone who's been wanting to play it. Def. not my cup (head) of tea but hope you guys enjoy it!
It's great to hear this is coming to PS Vita; I've got this on the Switch and it's great hand-held. Graphics are kinda low rez, so perfect for Switch and Vita.
Vita, right?
@clvr cheers mate will give it a blast, hopefully my bro will be up for it. Heard good things about it so defo interested in it
If I hadn't bought this on PC I would be jumping at this asap.
I would double dip but I remembered how infuriating the dragon boss is.
Funny how 100million+ potential customers can change ones mind eventually.
they did just put up a launch trailer on PlayStation access and they're doing a live stream right now
Played a bit on PC, maybe I'll pick it up if it gets a physical release. Very difficult though haha. Great soundtrack tho.
I haven’t played this, but I absolutely love the art style of it. I’ve heard it’s basically a series of boss battles which has put me off buying it on other platforms. I’m hoping it goes on Game Pass so I can give it a go.
So it was basically a really long timed exclusive? shrugs ok, not really interested in it anymore at this point, but I might pick it up for $5 down the line.
Great news, I always wanted to play this game
Great news, now just hoping Ori gets ported over.
I'm going to wait till the DLC comes out.
Anyone who hasn't played this needs to do so. The game is a masterpiece. Seriously one of the best releases this entire gen if you enjoy creative boss battles or action-platformers more generally.
Good, but no words on The Delicious Last Course...
Hope for a physical complete edition.
@Ralizah so seriously tempted. Idk if I can manage three games at once
@Feena If it helps, it's not really a game that requires much juggling. The entire experience, if you're just trying to beat it, is only a few hours long. Longevity primarily comes from revisiting bosses and stages in order to master them.
@Ralizah it seems like my favorite kind of game. I like that arcade feeling of redoing stages over and over again to get better.
All right day 1 download it is
@Feena I pretty thoroughly mastered the normal difficulty bosses, collected all of the coins across levels/the overworld, unlocked all the overworld secrets, etc. but I don't think I ever fully S-ranked all boss encounters on Expert difficulty.
I might repurchase on PS4 and go for the gold at some point.
But yeah, I'm fairly certain you'll love it.
Enjoy, Dualshockers.
Wait how did this get on Tesla Cars before PS4?
Wow, that went from never going to happen to my library in the blink of an eye.
Super excited to finally play this.
Finished this on Xbox a few years ago and this is genuinely one of the very best games of this generation
Nah, you're alright
I was interested until I found out it’s basically just boss battles. If it was metroidvania I’d be in.
Art style is gorgeous though...
@Matroska maybe someone has too remind him what he said.
Wow, awesome. I never expected this. Already have it on Switch though.
I just want some deadly premonition 2 please
Keen to check this out
I still think this should have been exclusive to Microsoft, they needed this.
@Kefka2589 with the xcloud, you wouldnt need a top of the line pc. Just a really great internet connection. I was able to play gears of war 5 on my galaxy a20, over wifi. Which is nowhere near your pc rig and wired(?) connection.
@Akurusu they are doing fine, financially. Exclusively, I dont think ms cared after so many years. When the devs inquired, ms said go for it. Make your money, in so many words.
Why was they initially so against bringing it to PS4.
@clvr I got cuphead yesterday, just waiting for my bro to pop over today to give it a go. Also bought gang beasts so will give them both a go. Gang beasts looks like fun.
@Daleaf great, I hope you'll enjoy it!
I played it co-op on a friend's PC years ago and had an absolute blast!
@Deadlyblack the one with the three heads? I finally defeated that git last week — been chipping away at the Switch version for the best part of a year now
Art style is totally my jam, but the gameplay and difficulty aren't.
I'll pick this up in a year or two when it's on sale for $10.
