If you’ve played GTA Online at all, you’ll know that it can take minutes to get into the game. And when we say minutes, we mean minutes – like, four or five of ‘em at least. It’s no surprise, then, that with all the talk of the PlayStation 5’s uber-fast SSD hard-drive, fans are hoping it’s a bit quicker to access Los Santos on next-gen hardware.
One meme which went viral on Reddit this week showcased the general sentiment of the community, and prompted a wider discussion about why GTA Online takes so long to load. The issue, from what we understand, is a complicated one: the game not only has to load the map, but it also has to synchronise the data across all players, including NPCs and ambient traffic.
As such, while Sony’s next-gen hardware will certainly speed certain elements up, it sounds like Rockstar may need to rewrite parts of the multiplayer mode’s networking code in order to accelerate the time it takes to boot the game. We reckon these would be worthwhile improvements, though, as currently GTA Online is the polar opposite of pick-up-and-play.

Well, I'm sure it'll be faster, but seeing as how Rockstar's online servers are made of actual spaghetti, I wouldn't expect it to be seemless. I'd also expect it to have a lot of issues at launch.
Honestly I play GTA Online a lot & it really is a serious issue. Its not just initial start up, its loading into properties, changing lobbies post game modes, joining invites etc.
I honestly feel that because its Rockstar & GTA V was a profit guzzling behemoth, the insane load times go largely ignored by media
@Jacko11 It's frustrating! The worst is when you lose connection, and it boots you back to single player with a huge load, and then you have to load back into multiplayer again.
It just makes me not want to play anymore.
Its about 2 minutes for me running with a SSD
@get2sammyb exactly! It’s annoying cause myself and my mates want to play the updated 2x cash modes each week, though longer sessions get tiresome cause they’re plagued with load times.
At least that’s your only real issue. Red Dead online fans (myself included) have many, many, things to moan about 🙄
How about a new gta instead of the same game over and over and over and o... I dont see the appeal of gta online it's way too predatory with all the microstansaction bs. Rockstar really have gone down the hill since last gen imho
Mine loads fine.
Everybody complain. Go make a new gta style game and quit crying. Why make something new that old is working?
This did become a burden just to do some quick dailies. Fortunately, Red Dead Online load times improved massively on this.
@get2sammyb I don’t understand how it has remained fun for so many people. I played it on the PS3 and bit on the PS4 but was completely over the experience once they finally added heists.
I wish it had died years ago so that RStar would have moved on.
@AJDarkstar Yes, but those cans are filled with spaghetti!
The SSD won't do anything for online as the rockstar servers are awful even on pc they are takes a good 5 mins to load even on my Samsung Evo SSD but then I have to sometimes do the alt ctrl del and suspend the game and resume because it sometimes another players causing me issue. As when I go back in 1 player will have left and it load up the room that's full
Everything bad started to happen since they let fortnite players in and now it's full of annoying non mic muting 5 year olds 😡
rather they stuck to making massive open world single player stories why I love the studio.
