Grand Theft Auto Online, much like its compatriot Red Dead Online, will be updated this summer, as Rockstar continues its commitment to its evolving online multiplayer sandboxes. There’s not much information on what residents of Los Santos should realistically expect, but a press release mentions “a fun mix of diverse new content from the game’s massive array of experiences to enjoy”.
But there’s more: later this year, the best-selling open world opus will receive its “biggest ever update”, which will feature “our latest take on Heists in an entirely new location”. The developer also mentioned that it’s continuing to listen to feedback, and is working hard to ensure that the title is safe from “modders, cheaters, hackers, and those who seek to harass other players”.
Are you still playing GTA Online regularly? Remember, a free version of the multiplayer mode will be released on the PlayStation 5 for PlayStation Plus subscribers, which is obviously a gigantic deal – especially if it finally reduces those abhorrent loading times.

New location? Hopefully that means what I think it means, I’d totally come back to GTA if they added more to the map.
Yeah, the new location bit is intriguing.
North Yankton maybe? Seems a waste to have details there we'll never see without modding (I'm a console peasant) like that alien under the ice.
I wish GTA online would have died years ago.

Kind of ironic considering the premise
@OmegaStriver why’s that? You hate the idea of other people having a nice time?
@kyleforrester87 No he hates the idea of a casino + microtransaction infected cesspool holding a new gta hostage.
You probably know the meme of GTA V already. Between 2001-2008 we got 6 gta's which include the console and PSP games. From 2013-2021 we got GTA V!! Why do you think that is?
"well games are more complicated now" yes and their team has increased several times over. They have well over 2,000 employees now compared to what 200+ back then if that, so no excuses.
@Juanalf ah.
North Yankton Heists incoming
@kyleforrester87 Honestly most of us just want a new GTA, I loved the main gta v when it came out but now it looks like they don't need to make another one with GTA online being a money magnet.
I'm afraid they will become like Valve who use to make great games, but now why would they waste time and effort making games when they make shovels of money on steam daily.
@kyleforrester87 @juanalf
Juan gets it.
Man would this game just die already. People just give devs a reason to be lazy and never make new games.
@Juanalf sure people want a new GTA. But I would hardly say Rockstar are holding GTA hostage. It is still selling like crazy every week. And like Fortnite it has a massive fanbase.
Maybe not your cup of tea, which is fair enough.
I’ve never been a massive GTA fan so not really too fussed about a 6th instalment, maybe I’d feel differently if it was a franchise I really enjoyed.
I still wont come back. Ive burned myslef out from GTA Online. A GTA VI would be good though.
Personally I just wish they'd improve the controls. I like the game but it's such a chore to play.
@OmegaStriver there is no reason for it to die, because it is one of the greatest online games to play, that is if you have friends.
@Juanalf They did make Red Dead Redemption 2, arguably their greatest ever grown-up title so it's not as if they've been completely idle!
I have been dipping into GTA V online in recent months but only in order to collect the million dollar bonus per month. I play it for a while and I just...don't get the appeal.. The main game I absolutely adore but online is a bit meh. I feel the same way about Red Dead online as well.
I'd love them to shock the world and announce within the next few months that they're working on GTA VI and expect it to be released within the next 2-3 years but sadly I suspect it's even further away than that.
I hope this future BIG update for GTA includes a large new map. A new large city to explore is long overdue.
Read Dead online needs fixed before any big update is added. Then if fixed a new big update will probably break it again.
@Bamila I’ve got friends but online never compares to SP. Especially with it’s horrible load times, matchmaking and inventory system, bleh.
@OmegaStriver Do you and the other 4 who liked your comment have something against people who enjoy multiplayer or...
@Akurusu Check right above your comment and you will have your answer.
It keeps on giving, I don't regret buying it on three separate platforms one bit!
Come on boys gta online has become a separate entity from gta6 which will be fully fleshed single player. That's why It doesn't have a number attached to it!!. Its a continuous growing game. Gta online. Get with the programme.
@OmegaStriver Your comment doesn’t change anything. So you’d rather the people who enjoy it not be able to play it anymore because you have some problems with it?
@Akurusu So you don’t want people that are bored of it to have GTA6?
See how that works?
My GTA is better than your GTA.
They should simultaneously release VR mode along with an undead nightmare like zombie mode! And a longer and darker day night cycle. And a whole entirely new map...... And smoother controls lol
@OmegaStriver Still sounds like you’re selfish. Explain why Red Dead Redemption 2 was still developed while GTA Online is active and the best thing about it? RDR2 was loved by many. So yeah, you just want other people to be robbed of their joy because you don’t like Online & want to rush another entry.
@Akurusu Yup, I’m selfish because I wanna move on to new experiences. I take it you are buying Series X because buying a PS5 would make you selfish wanting a new games?
@OmegaStriver Holy... I.... wow. You just made me laugh. I said it’s selfish to want a game shut down just because you had a few problems with it and want a newer entry sooner. I’m Pretty sure the Series X is getting new games too so I’ll get one or both, but do I want people who enjoyed the old stuff to have what they like taken away? Hell no. GTA Online can stay, Team Fortress can stay, Elder Scrolls online can stay. I didn’t like ESO, but it doesn’t need to be shut down & other people can enjoy it if they like it.
@Akurusu You are exhausting. When I said I wish it had died years ago, I meant it’s popularity.
You are so dramatic. How dare I want to take away people’s joy. You need to change your name to Karen. Chill.
@OmegaStriver What happened to your original comment bro? You keep switching up just to make yourself look better. 😂 Outrageous
