You may not have noticed Rockstar’s abandonment of Red Dead Online, but franchise fans certainly have. While the company continues to pour obscene sums of money into adding features to GTA Online, it’s been a whopping seven months since the Western’s acclaimed Moonshine update, and the wait for additional content is clearly getting to fans.
The video embedded above shows an entire lobby of players dressed as clowns. According to a report on PCGamesN, this all started on Discord and Reddit, where fans have been holding impromptu fashion shows. “Since we’re all clowns for believing we’ll get an update, it’s fitting that we dress up as them in-game, too,” one of the organisers explained.
To be honest, we really appreciate stuff like this. Rockstar may have effectively abandoned the game, but fans are finding new ways to make their own fun, and we suppose that’s testament to the strength of the original package. Alas, with GTA 5 set to release on the PS5 next year, there’s very little hope of the label turning its attention elsewhere.

Okay, I can respect this kind of protest. Much better than logging into Twitter and sending devs death threats at the very least.
Yep! This is a fun way of getting attention, and in a weird way they're eking more entertainment out of the game they've already got.
I had no idea RDO had been abandoned for this long. Seems crazy when GTA Online gets weekly updates.
Imagine randomly bumping into all of them in a moonlit misty Bayou. I would've shat my strides.
Anyway, I'm still playing RDO but it has been a good while since the last big update. I would like a new Outlaw Pass at least.
@ShogunRok absolutely. Good on this site for putting an article out about it as well. While the vile action of a few folks definitely needs calling out, its nice to see not all gamers are aresholes and dummy spitters.
I'd pay for a clown expansion pack. Arthur takes some peyote and imagines a clown-filled nightmare.
Red Dead online is full of clowns 🤔
Red read redemption 2 was over rated just like the 1st one anyway and all rockstar care about is money and GTA online is where the money's at they couldn't care less about anything else
Sure is a lot of clowning around online.
Shame, because I would much rather this get support and a PS5 version that GTAV which should be put to rest by now.
Can’t believe they never made a zombies DLC. Was some of the most fun mp I ever had in the first one.
This is excellent. I particularly like the clown train.
The RDO community seems to have a great sense of humor. It reminds me of the stew bowl carry challenge they had (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLp38io1Vec)
Then play something else. The game is two years old and theres plenty of other great games to play. Move on
Inb4 someone makes a "we live in a society" joke.
The abandonment of RDO? How about the fact that they just cast aside all possibility of story dlc on both rdr2 and gta v? This is why i oppose the price hike for next gen games, because we are going to pay more just for the games to be littered with microtransactions all the same.
@JohnnyBastos It's mad how much different the communities in lobbies are compared to GTA Online. You get the odd trigger happy cowboy but most of the time other players will greet you and go out of their way to lend a hand. It's quite refreshing.
the game is boring as hell anyway, the world is nice but it's very much a linear story set in an open world, wasted wasted opportunity
This is the kind of protest that I support, funny and entertaining rather than toxic and mean
It'll never happen but the only dlc or standalone thing RDR related i'd bother with would be a RDR 1+Undead Nightmare remaster using RDR 2"s engine minus its horrid controls & baked in mtx grinding. Sadly its one of the few AAA games from ps3 era that's missed current gen entirely unless you owned the other console. (PS Now unlikely to ever hit the colonials & really needs local play anyhow).
@ApostateMage its been two years so things should change...but my experience with RDO2 is:
"I shoot you first or get killed/grieved later"
That was the start of RDO2, you couldnt walk or do anything without being in your toes because someone would shoot you.
I don't know how much things have changed since those early days, but I must tell you it wasnt pretty.
I would have loved another undead nightmare dlc but I’m hey ho😭
@get2sammyb RDR Online also gets weekly updates.
GTA Online last small DLC was in March, which brought 6 brand new missions. The last real update to GTA Online was in December, 11th 2019.
Wait til they add a casino somewhere in the game. Then they will focus on it.
This game should have never gotten online - the first one was a linear narrative masterpiece and this one is just an open world mess with a disjointed badly paced story.
@YeoSprings Casino is in the game from the beginning - only it doesn't have any functions (Casino boat - Great Carrigan or something like that)
It makes me wonder why they even bothered with Red Dead Online if they’re gonna focus on GTA Online instead, which that games is ancient in comparison to Red Dead. Makes no sense, because if they weren’t gonna support it I’d have rather them done single player expansions for this game instead.
I saw this coming! GTA has more modern stuff in it so I think that’s what’s drawing people in.
Its amazing how some people want news ways for them to add more MTX.
