SEGA has revealed that Yakuza: Like a Dragon will feature an optional English voice track when it launches later this year here in the West. The upcoming role-playing title will follow the same path as Judgment, which released in 2019 complete with a great English dub.
Kaiji Tang will voice protagonist Ichiban Kasuga, and Judgment's Greg Chun will play party member Yu Nanba. What's more, SEGA has acquired the talents of seasoned actor George Takei, who'll voice Masumi Arakawa, the big boss of the Arakawa family.

No offense to those involved, but it seems like a waste of money to dub. I'm sure there are people who would prefer to play the game in English but I don't see a lot of new fans jumping in on what is like the 14th Yakuza game!?
Yes, it's a new protagonist and therefore hypothetically it's a good jumping in point, but the presumes the series exists in a vaacum. Plus, the new turn-based combat debatably makes the series even more niche.
It feels wierd knowing that they are giving dubs to the games from now on. I thought Judgment was going to be an exception...
Ehh, I'll probably still play with Japanese dub.
Not gonna lie, having a dub does make me want to buy this more.
Japanese VA was always fine, and a good Japanese dub is vastly preferable to a bad English one, but this really does make me want to buy it even more. As an Xbox One owner I hope they do a PS5 patch as it would be stupid to not do a PS5 patch when it's already on PS4.
Edit: They are doing a PS5 patch, it just looks the western release is a timed Xbox exclusive. I thought it had already came west on PS4.
Ehhh, I’ll still play in Japanese but I guess this is good for dub people, however much I despair of them.
Ok greg.best name ever.do your thing greg chun.word up son
Yakuza games having a dub just doesn't feel right. I know the first two games had it on the PS2 but it's still weird.
George Takei, eh?

"OH MY!!!"
@Loki7T1
Now that was funny!
@lacerz That low chuckle at the very end of the commercial could be interpreted as downright menacing!
Clearly Mr. Takei will be perfect as a crime boss.
Hey, Kaiji Tang and Greg Chun! Now I can’t stop thinking about them dubbing Kunio and Riki in River City Girls.
Hoping Mark Hamill voices Majima again!
Noo. An English dub will kill the vibe. Stick with subbed muh dudes.
I will be listening to Majima and Kiyru in Japanese for their real voice. I know they aren't main characters but spoilers.
The first game's dub was a complete abomination, but that was IMO down to (a) script style being set by committee, going all out with US street slang / profanity to appeal to GTA fans while keeping Japanese honorifics and terms like "aniki" and "oyabun" and (b) poor or non-existent voice direction.
Hamill and a few others did the best they could under those conditions.
It is currently unconfirmed (read: the localisation team leader was asked point-blank about it on Twitter & basically replied that he was NDA'd on that point) whether any of the cast from the PS2 Yakuza dub will reprise their roles.
