Guerrilla Games has been developing exclusively on PlayStation for over a decade, and it seems it’s experiencing some teething troubles with Horizon Zero Dawn’s PC port. While we were quietly impressed with the conversion, others have complained of various technical issues which the Dutch developer is currently investigating. “Please know that we are investigating your reports as our highest priority,” a statement said.
It continued: “We appreciate those who have already taken the time to report their issues on Steam, Reddit, or via our website. If you are still encountering crashes or bugs, please continue to use those spaces, or refer to our FAQ if you are unsure of how to proceed. Your reports are, and have already been, incredibly helpful for our teams.”
Despite the issues, we enjoyed revisiting the release. In our hands on impressions, we explained that it’s an “excellent game that’s now being made available to a whole new audience of prospective players who haven’t yet partaken in its bountiful delights” and hypothesised that some of the features added to this PC port could offer a potential peek at a future PlayStation 5 version.

They should have joined the playstation master race
What about just focus on the Horizon forbidden west.
I'm glad I didn't buy the game on pc, I hope there's ps5 performance patch, I want to play it with 4K & 60 fps support on my tv
I've got a solution for ya. Should have just kept it exclusive.
Rather than just give yourself the headache of having to optimise it for potentially thousands of different possible hardware combinations Vs just two.
Same thing happened with Persona 4 Golden.
I used to be a PC gamer in my teens but for all their 'Master Race' comments they never address this, the biggest problem, optimisation.
For me, now being in my 30's the convienience of console 'plug and play' and optimisation far outweighs the better resolution/frame and the headache of driver issues and software clashes that comes with the PC territory.
People always find ways to break stuff, it’s really quite impressive.
I often see PC as working device. I'm a software developer and have a lot of think to handle on PC's. So if i want to play, i want to relax. I work on a PC and i play games on playstation or sometimes switch. It was annoying to find the right amd update for horizon zero dawn on my girlfriends pc.
I was going to wait until it went on sale anyways to pick it up and play through it again on PC, so I’m not that bothered. By the time it goes up for sale this will probably be resolved. Loved it on PS4 Pro, I’m sure it’s gonna look ridiculous on my 2080 Ti/Ryzen 9 3900X system!!
PC games just need to scale better than consoles. I did wonder if it was put out in a state that limited its potential on purpose so as not to draw to many comparisons with the PS4 Pro looking very weak. Either way, I'm sure it can be sorted with a little effort.
@SaikoWaifu2003 the fact that you missed the sarcasm behind that stupid "master race" saying is troubling to say the least. I'm kind of disappointed in you.
@SaikoWaifu2003 Yep, it is really no different from consoles now, Just let Geforce and Steam keep everything updated. I mean Geforce will even configure the games settings based on your hardware if you want it to.
@GADG3Tx87 I haven't seen anyone complain about P4G. I've been playing it solid 8k 60fps with only 1 minor shadow glitch in a scene that is only in the game once.
On topic: I refunded it because I don't support bad/lazy ports. I will gladly rebuy it to try the best version of a game I have almost no interest in, when it's fixed to an acceptable level.
@Menchi
I have. On Atlus' Twitter feed. People have complained with glitched audio, frame stuttering and game crashes quite commonly.
Bad port,which is suprising, seeing as Death Stranding,played well on pc.
@Menchi That was also a bad port for some,I had to cap my frame rate at 30 fps,so that the opening and cutscenes,would not have to stutter every time.
@rachetmarvel @GADG3Tx87 Hadn't seen those myself. Everything for P4G has been perfect for me, 60 hours in. Shame.
The port was handed to a second team as the main team is working on forbidden West, they want to fix the game but it will turnout like batman no doubt and have to end up leaving it.
@rachetmarvel Have to remember it's not just as simple as "the engine". Kojima Productions were talented at optimising it for PC, Guerilla aren't. I imagine a lot of the KP staff are from studios that optimised for PC before, unlike Guerilla
@GADG3Tx87 Amen!!!! This so much. Why spend time, labor and resources on something that it is not your market? AND THEN go about spending huge cash on time exclusivity of third party stuff. HYPROCRITE much?
@LemonHaze you don't really understand the concept between free and torrent
Told you, 1st party dev time wasted on another platform.
What's the point of first party in-house graphics engines?
All do you who say oh looks it needed to be optimized like Death Stranding was, Kojima actually did take the engine and tweaked it with the intention of releasing it on pc as well. HZD was probably never intended to release on pc at any point the actual game was code to use the engine differently, it uses the PCIE lanes of the what the GPUs uses instead of directly going to it and letting the GPUs and CPU do the work.
I for it for free with my new processor tried it today during the cutscene where Aloy is getting training in combat. It wasn't using any GPU or CPU % but just spurts of each not like any normal game does say GTA5. But this is how it works on the PS4 I believe and again with it never intended to come to PC, it's screwed up they should have released a demo or something got some feedback to a select few.
They have a lot of work because I don't think a driver update will solve it, it plays crap on Nvidia 2080ti's for god's for some owners. Until they fix things then we can know it's it does look better than the PS4 cause right now Digital Foundary say it's not all that great looking in Ultra settings and advise to play it on medium which looks like PS4 just higher res and FPS
Maybe focus on the sequel instead of spending time and resources trying to fix a port that shouldn't even exist
So many ps babies crying on here hahaha its great
@LuckSource
Someone's triggered. Lol.
What? Is it that you can't stand that many older gamers who have zero interest in meaningless resolution gains and streaming culture feel that PC gaming sucks and prefer convenience?
You'll understand when you grow up, 'kid'.
