Mafia: Definitive Edition has clearly been constructed using the blueprints of Mafia III, but that’s no bad thing. The problem with Hangar 13’s threequel was that it lacked the variety of better open worlds; fundamentally, though, it was a great looking title, bursting with atmosphere and boasting some pretty darn satisfying gunplay.
In this gameplay video embedded above, Haden Blackman chats a little about how the project came about, which elements have remained intact, and what the overall goals for the project are. Honestly, we reckon it looks rock solid, and we’re really looking forward to getting our hands on it on 25th September. If you can’t wait that long, though, a new story trailer will debut during Gamescom tonight.

Yeah can’t wait for this. Three was good but prefer the setting of one. I’ve preordered the trilogy and know I’ll have fun with playing 1&2 and I already own three
I loved 2 but gave up on 3 pretty quickly. How do cats who love 2 rate 1 by comparison? I never played it myself so haven't got any frame of reference. I'm all about story and characters, so if it's on the same level as 2 I reckon I'll give this a bash.
To say Mafia wasn't born great is pretty insulting. 18 years ago Mafia was a stellar game. Wonky driving physics aside it still holds up fairly well today.
Can’t wait for this it looks gorgeous on pro .Happy days
It looks good from that trailer, but I'm in no rush to buy this. The recent release of Mafia 2 Definitive Edition had a lot of bugs and technical issues, so I'll have to wait and see whether this one also suffers the same fate.
Looks really good. Although the facial expressions were impressive, some of the face textures were a bit clayish. Hopefully it's one of the things that'll be smoothed out in the finish.
I forgot this game was delayed into September.
I realize it was a different porting dev that did Mafia 2,but did they ever resolve many/any bugs from the initial cashgrab stealth release put out? Curious to see how it turns out, but wary of anything 2K outputs.
Given Mafia III is still a disastrous buggy mess all these years after release quite frankly anyone buying a Hanger 13 game day 1 gets exactly what they deserve. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Also, for it's time the original Mafia was actually a damn good game.
@SirAngry what bugs in mafia 3?
@johnny30 where do I begin? I'll list the bugs I've encountered since it became the Definitive Edition and I played through it.
1. Multiple game length trophies bugging out and not popping.
2. Assets not loading in so you fall through the floor.
3. Cars disappearing while you are driving them.
4. Character models with missing torsos.
5. The sky box moving when you move, so that it turns with you.
6. Characters not being animated.
7. Misapplied textures, famously for me there was a bridge that had a skybox texture applied to it.
8. LoD problems where higher quality assets don't load in so you end up with low quality assets near screen.
9. Sound bugs, oh my God the ear bleeding sound bugs.
10. The game crashing repeatedly.
11. Frequent dips in frame rates to what appears to be single digits.
12. Enemies being able to shoot through walls.
Is that enough for now? Seriously, the game is a technical mess, and that's before I get onto the poor mission structure and the down right painful writing that just used the time period as an excuse to be racist. Awful product, from an awful studio.
@SirAngry it is, I got it for free on PS Now and after a day had to uninstall, terrible game, nothing good about it apart from visuals but the story is absolutely stellar. After playing Mafia on PC and then Mafia 2 I was expecting great things. I am slightly scared for this remaster seeing as it's coming from hangar 13.
@HUMPERDOO I grew up with 2. Didn't really get into 3 but 2 was always my favourite
Up until last month, I played the original Mafia 1 from 2002 on PC... and it became my favourite-- you HAVE to try it aha
Its aged a bit, it's really hard and you'll die a lot to begin with... Look beyond that and you've got the best mafia story
I love how the remake looks and I can't wait to play it... seriously play the original first, on PC, and you'll love it!
MAFIA was the best game for me growing up. I can honestly say that it's much better than the original GTA3. Stellar gameplay, mechanics and what a story. I think it will be a good game, Hayden Blackman was the game director for SW Force Unleashed. That game gave me a reason to buy my first console xbx360.
