While Observer probably isn't the first game you think of when it comes to next-gen remasters, the updated Observer: System Redux is planned to launch on PlayStation 5 this year -- potentially providing us with something to play during a quiet period. Bloober Team has now detailed the sort of upgrades this next-gen version will be packing, and the trailer above makes it seem like a genuinely big improvement.
Volumetric lighting and global illumination bring even more colour to the cyberpunk world of Observer, while raytracing and HDR look like huge game-changers. Materials and objects are said to look even more realistic and character models have been completely remade. The game will also be running at 60 frames-per-second, but it doesn't seem to be one of the many Confirmed PS4 to PS5 Free Upgrades. You'll need to pay for this one.

Never actually played this one, is it actually a good game?
Hidden gem?
@Futureshark I never played it either but I plan on getting it. Looks good to me. And usually if a game gets a remake/remaster it was good enough to get the funding.
"Many" upgrades
@Futureshark @Waffles12415 I think it's a great detective mystery / walking simulator. The grungy cyberpunk atmosphere of the apartment block (and glimpsed mega-city in the background) is amazing, helped along immensely by ambient synth that Vangelis would not sneer at. Rutger Hauer owned the main character as well, and while the story delves in cyberpunk tropes like trans-humanism and uploading a human consciousness to the net, it does a good job with those tropes in my opinion. I haven't played any of Bloober Team's other games, but this is one I'm glad to have experienced.
Only downsides in my mind are 1) performance on my base PS4 was a little rough in just a few spots, and 2) beware of a tricky "sequence" where it looks like you're in a forest and not getting anywhere no matter how far you run - really it's an illusion and you have to use your scanner to "see" the real world in outline and interact with 3 servers to dispel the illusion.
@LiamCroft after seeing this i Demand a Deus Ex Remake make it happen Sony... Please!!
Think I will be all over Cyberpunk 2077 when this one is out. May get this a bit later.
Lighting is just fantastic.
People keep talking about SSDs, but RayTracing and illumination in general will be the real ticket next Gen.
Consoles will finally have what we been seeing on PC for the last 18 months, and needs a push into mainstream. Not needing $1,000 to see it will help 😉
@Diamond1980 one of my favorite franchise in all of gaming, I'm bummed by the fact Square is sleeping on it . I would love nothing more than a MD remaster and yes bring back beach mode i actually enjoyed that challenge
buying games in this time is huge mistake in the current gen.
@Brasilkilla so true it's amazing for me playing a game that was released in early 2000 and still unbelievably great!
Does anyone else find it interesting that Bloober, a team with commercial ties to Microsoft (they've paid for Medium to be a timed exclusive) would choose to show their other game / launch title running on PS5? There are plenty of potential reasons they might have chosen to do so, it'd just be interesting to know which one it was.
