It sounds like the recent PlayStation 4 remake Trials of Mana has quietly done really well for itself as Square Enix reports that the game has significantly outsold any expectations the publisher held for it. The news comes via a recent financial results briefing, where during a final Q&A session, the publisher said that sales "are so strong that they have significantly surpassed our initial expectations."
Square Enix hasn't publically shared any hard numbers, but this must bode well for the future of the franchise. Could we yet see a sequel to Trials of Mana or another entry in the Mana series as a whole? Watch this space. Did you check out Trials of Mana on PS4? Do you think it was a worthwhile remake? What was the sales split though? I'm guessing the Switch port did way better than the Vita version for the previous game.
@Enigk The last time it showed up on the Famitsu sales charts (June 8-14), the Switch version had sold 100,451 copies and the PS4 version sold 133,593 copies.
Hopefully we get a new Mana game then.
@Storytime7 Thanks for the info. Surprised the Switch version didn't do better. Until all 3 of the remakes are on one system I am refraining from buying as I have the Collection of Mana on Switch to scratch my itch if needed.
The gsme wasnt that great too fair.
I’d prefer it if Square just released their classic games in the original form (with no iPhone graphics like they did with the first DQ games or whatever they did with the sprites and not the background in FFVII etc.), and instead made completely new games in the series. I wonder how many the Mana collection sold.
Great! I loved it. Beat it during my first playthrough with Duran, Angela and Hawkeye.
My second playthrough (currently) is Kevin, Charlotte and Reisz.
Great, now tell them to give us a FF VI remake already
I played the original countless times on emulator but the remake didn't justify a purchase.
@AyanamiReign if they decide to make more mana games, I really hope they will be worth something. I played most mana games and they really got worse and more generic over time. I wouldn't mind a secret of mana remake including all their original ideas like the extra continent with modern stuff, like QOL
@3MonthBeef You are absolutely right, I completely forgot about this one. The mana remake don't seem good at all. Maybe we can hope for a quality closer to the ff7 remake next time they decide to remake a mana game
Waiting for it to be $19.
FFVIIR, Avengers and Outriders are what they are pinning their hopes next quarter.
Oh Good. This game was a big surprise to me. I wasn't a fan of The Secret of Mana remake, but I loved this one enough to finish it twice.
Currently playing it and it's been a fun time. It clearly doesn't have the budget or depth of something like FFVIIR, but it's nice going back to a simpler RPG where you don't have to spend as much time in menus & whatnot.
Good. Maybe now they will consider either remaking Chrono Trigger or porting it to the Switch. Either way, I want Chrono Trigger on my Switch!
Probably helps that it was heavily advertised and clearly more of an ambitious endeavor than the last two Mana remakes.
I'll get it someday, but it definitely wasn't a "OMG day one!" sort of deal like FF7R and DQXI S were for me.
@Ralizah The great thing about this game is that it is a remake of a game that never released in the US. I think that fact helped sales, as for many, it WAS a new game.
Hopefully this means Legend of Mana gets remade next. Fingers Crossed.
@SmileyK I said that about Square-Enix once, and Bethesda, and Bioware, and Blizzard, and Sega.... never have a favourite developer, they only break your heart at some point.
