Genshin Impact, the free-to-play action RPG regularly compared to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, has today released on PlayStation 4. It's available as a free download from the PlayStation Store, or you can opt to purchase an £8.99/$9.99 Adventurers Bundle alongside it to give you a headstart.
What really pushes Genshin Impact's comparison with one of Nintendo's finest titles of the past few years is the ability to do practically anything you like in terms of traversal. As the PS Store description points out, you can "climb any mountain, swim across any river, and glide over the world below, taking in the jaw-dropping scenery each step of the way. And if you stop to investigate a wandering Seelie or strange mechanism, who knows what you might discover?" We will be sure to post our own impressions as and when we can.
Are you going to give Genshin Impact a go on PS4? Let us know in the comments below.

I'm actually playing the real Breath of the Wild at the moment but I won't be trying this. Not because of what it takes inspiration from but that sales model, as a complete game I could buy I may have had a look
I had no idea this was f2p.
I don't know how many people will be bothered by it, however i will point it that it does not have a platinum.
I will play this casually between Trails of Cold steel so personally IDM
I'm so glad this game is a free to play. I was seriously tempted before learning it was F2P, but now this will never be added to my backlog/wishlist.
@carlos82 Me too! Getting ready for Age of Calamity.
Played Breath Of The Wild to death.
Will grab this now just to try it. Don't think it will have a patch on BOTW though
Just playing this, the game is good but the system is a bit complicated, everybody talking re-roll or something which seems quite important for some reasons. Playing this on pc because it has cross-save with my ipad and iphone, it's annoying the game can't cross-save with psn.
There’s little by way of gameplay description here. I typically avoid free to play games but can make exceptions for those that are fun despite not spending money. What I generally always stay away from are MMOs / service based games. Do what do you so in this one?
This game looked so good!! Thought it'd be a normal game, I'll steer clear of it now though if it's F2P. Would rather just buy it like a normal game, totally tone-deaf on the part of the devs (or more likely, the publisher) imo.
Gonna try this because I’m an action RPG fanatic. FTP leaves me nothing to lose.
Glad to see that Breath of the Wild is getting some love even here.
Helluva GOTY-winning Wii U title, that one.
I think I’ll wait until later to play this. It looks good but I put hundreds of hours into Breath of the Wild. I don’t want to burn myself out on anything that looks like BoTW before Age of Calamity.
Absolutely beautiful game graphically, puts other anime rpg games to shame
@AndyKazama
No plat AND F2P? Bummer....
@AlexSora89 The Wii U was the worst console of its time, yet the final bullet in the chamber ended up being the 2017 GOTY and 2010s game of the decade. Pretty Wild if you ask me.
@carlos82 not sure why you felt the need to comment this but you do you 👍🏻😂
I'll download this to see what all the fuss is about.
Free to play?
Shame.... i was interested, but never knew it was a free to play game.
I’ll stick with the prequel for now, Breath of the Wild, until I hear some raving reviews.
This game is one of the beautiful games i ever play.i play 20 minutes yesterday.and man is it pretty.gameplay is cool.also.word up son
@Jacko11 the irony being it still had more purpose than your reply or indeed this one
Free? Weird...does it have microtransations or is online mmo-lite? What is the trap here?
@AFCC It does have microtransactions.
They cut an impressive trailer, but I'm VERY weary of it being F2P.
I have never minded the free to play games. Generally if you are willing to put the hours in you get the experience you want from it. If you want to save time then put money into it. There are many successful free to play games its just gettng the balance right
@carlos82 ......touché
@carlos82 double the irony.
Gona download this one , it looks really cool
I'm really enjoying it and it looks fantastic. I would of preferred that it wasn't free-to-play, but so far, it's really good.
Put a couple of hours into it, really impressed so far. The game plays well, beautiful to look at and very polished. It throws loads of stuff at you seemingly all at once and the systems aren't really explained well but still, half the fun is in the learning for me so I'll stick at it.
@AndyKazama - To be fair very few F2P games have a platinum.
Been excited for this since it's original announcement.Shame it went f2p but it still hasn't put me off and I have it ready and downloaded.
Just an FYI for everyone saying they’ll play this after BOTW or because it’s like it - it is NOTHING like BOTW. Art style is similar but this a free to play gatcha game with micro transactions. But you can finish the game without buying a thing. No news on endgame though.
For all the people worried about being bothered about microtransactions. You DO NOT need to worry about them UNLESS you are doing endgame stuff. You can definitely enjoy the story and exploration with the characters they give you.
I am really enjoying it. Got a bunch of really cool units to play around with, and there is A TON of things to do.
Main quest, side quests, puzzle chests, dungeons, co-op dungeons, collectables. It's really easy going right now, I don't feel any pressure to spend money, but I reckon the end game is where you'll need the best units, artifacts, and weapons to play viably like most F2P games.
It's definitely beautiful as well. I am having a really good time with it.
It is kind of like BOTW, but also kind of not. The combat isn't anything like BOTW, as you can switch between your heroes to combo abilities, but exploration is almost exactly like BOTW.
You can climb, you can glide, and there are a lot of collectables, and puzzles you can randomly stumble upon. Not to mention kinda long side quests.
I'm looking forward to playing this a lot more.
Is it sad that I might be interested in this game if it was a purchasable commodity, but as a F2P title I am just automatically skeptical? Not ruling it out if favorable reviews come in since, not having a Switch, I’ve always wanted to know what all the fuss is about with Breath of the Wild.
@NinjaWaddleDee You also get quite a few freebies. I have 10 units already including a five star unit, and I haven't spent anything.
I will say the archer you get in the beginning is the most useful unit I have. She never leaves my party because of a few enemies that are annoying to fight because they'll fly.
Yeah I don't find myself playing this game much cause the combat is super boring. You can't do much with it which is lame.
People avoiding it just because its f2p? This community is ridiculous. I'll give it a look after more news to see if it is a type of game I want to play.
Not sad at all @Th3solution... I have the exact same stance/position as you regarding it.
If it was a £/$30 purchase I'd have easily shown some support for it as it looks rather good from all the trailers I've seen.
But the free to play aspect is sketchy to me too... My time with Let It Die was honestly pretty good (I'm sure I sunk 60-80 hours in it) til towards the end when it got extremely aggressive with it's free to play nonsense and put me right off of it.
That's a worry here too for me.
@Cutmastavictory It's understandable, some people don't like having to deal with those microtransactions.
@Constable_What This game doesn't feel predatory in my opinion. Now I'm sure once I get into co-op it will get quite grindy, but honestly I don't even mind because the world and combat is so good.
Keenly curious
@OmegaStriver Chinese F2P mobile gacha on PC and Console...
Started at 10PM when the servers opened here in the East coast, and did not stop playing till 1AM. Tons of fun.
Played 160+ hrs in ZBOTW - this does not play the same way (Switch between characters and swap out elements at pillars) it does have a similar visual style at times.
On PC @4K, it makes you wish you could play ZBOTW on something other than Nintendo hardware.
As for F2P. Seems you get everything you need as you play. I bought a $4.99 blessing because I wanted to support the digital artist that made the world. It is beautiful.
@Nepp67 LOL,you obviously have never done or seen an in depth look at the combat, the elemental combos and character swapping alone makes the combat enjoyable.
This game also has a kernal level anti-cheat.

@playstation1995 @playstation1995 why you talking like you have severe brain damage kid 🤣🤣
@rachetmarvel Except I have? It's not deep dude. I've already done the prologue and got the rest of the 3 base characters. Combat is pretty simple that a baby could figure it out. The combat is boring, swapping characters and elemental combos isn't enough to make it enjoyable. It is boring.
@Sambo91. Why you talking like a idiot🤔.wtf.haha.word up son
@Nepp67 Well,if you find that boring, than I guess it is just personal preferences, for me , I always get hyped when I mix different elements together,to defeat an enemy, and unlike something like Zelda, this games combat feels smoother and better.
It's OK I guess, played for a couple hours. 100% is an anime BOTW reskin not that it bothers me personally. Some good things going on but it being f2p I imagine it's going to be a massive time sink to progress in the late game. Hope others find some enjoyment in it!
Looks good but it being free to play has dented my interest. Dented in the way that the iceburg dented the Titanic.
@redd214 You must not have played breath of the wild,to think this was a reskin.
@rachetmarvel just checked, 250 hours in BOTW, guess I did play it a bit lol. Glad your enjoying it bud
@NinjaWaddleDee I really like this game. The pacing especially is pretty good with new things becoming available after each main quest.
Not every game is for everyone, but I'm pretty impressed by the size and scope of the game considering it's free. It doesn't feel predatory, and you get so much just for playing the game.
I think once we start the endgame, and have to actually use Origin Tokens or whatever, that will probably change. I also, think awakening mats will be scarce after you complete the main story like MolaGora in Epic Seven. You'll have to wait a couple months to fully upgrade a character once you've done everything, but if I can put 60 or so hours into this without spending a dime, that's a win.
Great game so far. Me and a buddy played together on chat until we unlocked co op. Now it’s even better!
I'll give this one a go. Looks like it could be enjoyable.
Not sure what all the fuss is about it being F2P. Warframe is F2P as well, and I maintain the opinion that it's one of the better games this generation.
F2P doesn't automatically mean bad, and certainly shouldn't turn you off if you were interested in it before.
Okay, I have spent a good few hours in the game and I am surprisingly impressed, which I wasn’t expecting.
Yes, you get the BotW feel for the first 10 mins as you start to climb walls and collect items and fight a couple of moblin like creatures and then it quickly becomes clear it is very different to BotW.
It’s actually a very good game. The graphics are gorgeous, the gameplay is enjoyable and the combat fluid. The story moves at a nice pace and the characters are interesting and likeable. And the highlight being that the fantasy world and music are sublime. It looks similar to BotW, but also takes a lot of inspiration from Dragon Quest games and other JRPGs. It’s story, music, NPC’s, town settings and item systems for example. But it is also its own game, and respect to the developers for pulling it off.
This has got to be one of the best mobile games available. It’s up there with Minecraft and Fortnite in terms of games that can be played both on mobile and console and I have high hopes for this games future.
The main thing that is the problem is the fact it is a mobile game in pricing structure. It’s free and I’m not going to be spending much (if anything) on it. But I don’t agree with the fact mobile games can charge £80+ for some gems that don’t even unlock everything.
Apart from that though, it is a great game that deserves a shot. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.
More like "breast of the waifu"
I don't understand why people refuse to even try free to play games, if you don't like it you can delete it and you loose nothing
@BrettAwesome Because there are girls and woman in the game?
So do you get to create your own character in this or is a pre generated brother or sister?
@sanderson72 You choose either brother or sister,no CAC
@Sambo91 Hey, leave @playstation1995 alone, he's a nice guy. You can hardly talk, since you seemed to have clicked reply then @ him as well.
Yeah, I tracked this one for a bit. It looked great, I then learned it was going to be f2p and i lost a lot of interest. Currently, I am playing Warframe, other than a couple of brief stints into MMOs that is my first f2p game. It has certainly changed my opinion but talking to Warframe vets, they tell me I can just about grind up to the level I need to get through all of it's story elements but it would be easier to get multipliers and such, especially later in the game. So, yes, this is the model: Make a good game, let people play it for free so they don't "Um" and "Errr" about getting it, then after they're hooked from the first 30 hours of play make it too tough to go through without some insane 60 hour grind or you can just buy stuff to make it easier and quicker, allowing you to enjoy the game again. It just snowballs from that point, too. Will continue Warframe for now but I'm aware of these mechanics.
@Jayofmaya. Hahaha right on playa.im actually enjoy genshin impact graphics is amazing and gameplay is really fun.word up son
@Kienda If you keep writing coherent comments they're going to ban you for being an intellectual.
I think I may watch my wife play this one as she's been sitting through endless hours of watching me play The Witcher 3. I'm looking forward to us playing Age of Calamity in a couple of months so f2p can hold us over until then.
Since you mentioned Switch in a previous reply, you get Luigi's Mansion 3? One of the best couch co-op experiences I've had in a long time. Would be perfect w/ l kids I think.
anyone played this on ps4? it becomes so loud on most parts of the world even on just the main start of the game..better to play this on pc
@Orochilocka whats a gatcha game?
@LiamCroft Since this is a F2P game with no end in sight for the moment, will there still be a review or not?
@rjejr one man’s coherent is another man’s waffle, but I appreciate the compliment.
I haven’t played Luigi’s Mansion 3, in fact, I think it’s one of the few Nintendo franchises where I haven’t tried any in the series despite them always looking like really good games that people rave about.
I will add it to my list. Thanks man.
@Kienda You're welcome. I only bought it b/c it was on sale for $42 recently, which is a HUGE sale for a Nintendo game. My wife had played the original on Gamecube so I bought it for her, didn't even realize it had multiplayer but it was a really good co-op experience. Never bought the DLC, what was there seemed kinda lame.
