How long does your favourite game take to load on the PlayStation 4? We’re not talking about Suspend/Resume or anything like that; we mean the first time you select it from your system’s main menu. About 15 seconds? 30 seconds? Heck, a minute, maybe? Kena: Bridge of Spirits takes two seconds on a PlayStation 5.
The information comes courtesy of Game Informer magazine: “In practice, we watched as Kena: Bridge of Spirits was launched from the PS5 system menu,” the publication reports. “It took about two seconds. That’s not resuming a suspended game, but launching the game fresh.” So pretty much by the time you’ve selected it, you’re into the game.
“They have a whole thing set up where you can do a transition and it’s very nice, but frankly it doesn’t have time to play the animation,” explained Josh Grier, chief operating officer at Ember Lab. “It just loads the game so fast.” Obviously, after a generation of slow loading, this is a novelty that will wear thin in time. Still, we’re thrilled at the prospect of never having to see another loading screen again.

The game I can't wait to play on PS5. Hopefully Microsoft finally forced their hand for some info now so I can pre-order it and make sure I can spend some Holiday time playing Kena!
Damn.....means I'll have to pause games to reply to texts now!! How disappointing
Great now I'll have to make a cup of tea before turning the PS5 on
Kena: Bridge of Spirits Takes Two Seconds to Boot on PS5.................yeah but no but £250 enables me to play "next generation" on a Xbox Series S
@HMazzy111 This is what I've been thinking, when will I be able to scroll through Twitter now?
Really excited for this one. So glad it's on PS4 too, I won't be getting a PS5 any time soon.
Wwf Shawn Michaels sweet chin music.thats good to know.kena is going to be a masterpiece.word up son
Wow thats insane, next gen is gonna be awesome!
"How long does your favourite game take to load on the PlayStation 4? "
My Top 3 PS4 games are Dragon Quest Builders 2, The Sims 4 and Portal Knights but they took very long loading time to boot.
@LiamCroft PS5 results in world peace because nobody has time to argue on twitter anymore?
Btw.
Will PS4 games have faster loading time when being played on PS5?
It's not my favorite game but ya know Metro Exodus taking like 5 ******* minutes to boot the hell up. Glad Persona 5 Royal which is my favorite game takes very short to load up along with Bloodborne and Ghost of Tsushima.
Ps5 is worthed it just for the quick loading alone 😃
@phil_j Wow, you may be onto something actually.
I feel when I press X to start a game it already takes 2 seconds from my DS4 to reach the PS4.
It s nice they got to see the PS5 in action 😃
@Anti-Matter Yes it will benefit from the SSD. but not so much that it boot up in 2 seconds. Maybe 15 seconds more or less. Unless it's upgraded to next gen, then maybe it will.
So does it actually take 2 seconds, or does it take ‘about 2 seconds’, the well used idiom?
I quite like the initial loading screens, and the fact you can take a screenshot and use it as a theme if you time it correctly.
All those instant boots and no load claims have already dried up and it's not even out yet. This is why you don't believe marketing.
The same amount of time it takes to microwave my Hot Pockets.
@SamMR That a lot better then the minutes with some games now si ill take it.
@nessisonett If its near 2 too 5 secondes would that be a issue? Even 10 seconds too boot up a game would be great for me.
That sounds fantastic. One of my top games coming up. It really looks great.
@Flaming_Kaiser It’s not really a deal at all, it’s just interesting for the quote to say ‘about two seconds’ and the headline saying specifically two seconds.
It's as if I have travelled back in time to the NES days when games loaded up instantly - only with exponentially better graphics!
@JJ2 LOL
@nessisonett Look at the waiting times on my PS4 when i load in a level and i want too change my loadout before the match with the latest COD. 😆
Is it two seconds to reach the game's menu from the ps5 homepage or 2 seconds to load the actual game from the game's menu?
Most impressive either way, and that will change from loading time like my time at Portia on the Switch. You had time for a quick nap before even reaching the menu, then you could make diner before it was done loading your save.
Man, I remember the simple act of autosaving in Street Fighter Alpha 3 on PS1 took what felt like about 8 seconds and froze the game while it did it. Everyone I know always turned it off since it frequently autosaved. This 2 second thing is even better since you should be able to boot right into a saved game.
@Rhaoulos Yeah, I have that Fairy Tail game on the PS4 and it even has to load the main menu - which takes about 10 seconds. Then it has to load your actual saved game. PS5 is going to feel so luxurious.
@nessisonett it'll depend on how well the game is compressed, and how much data is needed to get the game up and running. At 16GB the average throughput from the PS5 SSD will be around 9GB/s so at that sort of speed you are looking at an average of 2 seconds to load a game that requires / uses the full 16GBs. If your game use less memory you could have faster loads times, if your game compresses better then you should see better load times, and conversely you'll have slower load times if it doesn't compress well, but average times will be around 2 seconds I guess will be normal.
So just as long as my sex life, neat!
No kidding, that's impressive!
@Number09
Oh, you mean on hardware that is not worthy of being called "next-gen" and is pointless/ laughable. Good for those on an unwise purchase. This is basically like a glorified Xbox one X and devs have already called out the bs about ease of scalability in regards to performance. I see this as just being an unnecessary obstacle for dev time on a platform that should be unified in performance by now. Halo has already been delayed because it looked like dog sh*t and, worryingly of all, was not even running on the hardware itself. What does that say, aside from 343's ineptitude? You'd think Xbox would have learned their lesson from the SAD edition that flopped and was almost unanimously panned. 400 or less on very decent hardware, on the no doubt cheaper PS5 digital edition. This means Sony has been handed a win with their proposition and flexibility with a performance that is the same. 250 may seem like a good deal, but it's not when you actually look into it.
@Number09 not really.
@AJDarkstar Even if the PS5 is technically faster, Series X will still be lightning fast compared to the modern gen systems.
It amazes me how we keep seeing (via capture footage) and/or hearing (via interviews) about games being played on the PS5 compare to the Xbox series X, which, up to this day, has yet to show something actually running on that damn thing… Frankly, that’s just mess up.
Anyhow, this game looks neat. I can’t believe it isn’t a full priced either. I will probably get it once it comes out.
No idea I have slightly better things to do than sit measuring how long my games take to start up. How about you?
(>▂<) I'm gonna miss loading screens .
This is a game changer for me. Now I'm going to have to make my coffee before starting the game instead of during loading screens haha
Very cool though, and the game looks very nice.
@Anti-Matter yes but we will no have any improvements on games with locked frame rate until the game being patched or updated.
I wonder what this actually means, I dont know what kena is and it doesnt sound like that big a game, what about games with all those damn splashscreens and logos, several opening vidoes you have to skip through and the process of actually loading into your file once you hit the continue button, is that actually done in 2 seconds?
I can’t wait to see how the SSD in the PS5 compares to the two sitting inside my gaming PC. I think those little fellas load pretty damn quick, so I can’t imagine how this custom one’s gonna perform!
@carlos82 This is why we need to multitask: miss the cup pouring milk and burn your laps spilling the kettle while dying in game.
This is before unskipable legal and splash screens, right?
Looks like this game will launch holiday 2020. Another launch title for PS5. You can watch the IGN coverage, the devs confirmed the release date ... it’s not a leak
@Suckitbanmoderat there is a market that just plays madden fortnight etc for them its a chance to be able to play the next gen titles without the extras.
@Bish186 for £250 you can actually play halo microsoft flight sim madden fifa all next generation games.................what part of that are you having difficulty understanding.
@Number09
Then you surely understand that current gen will still be around for a while or the fact a casual wouldn't care and would probably play on mobile with a Bluetooth controller. Hell, even a basic PC can fun Fortshite and they're from subscription policies to play online. Regardless, even if that is the case, paying 250 for a console just to play a handful of games is false economy and the most pathetic excuse I have ever seen.
Hmmm........why the passive aggression chill your commenting on a public games console channel.....no need for "Fortshite" and " the most pathetic excuse I have ever seen."
for £250 you can actually play halo microsoft flight sim madden fifa all next generation games.................what part of that are you having difficulty understanding.
@JesWood13 this is faster than any singular SSD you can currently buy, additionally the system is designed to use the full bandwidth of the drive, unlike other modern PC's. This thing will outperform any PC you can buy right now. That'll change quickly though when Nvidia releases their new cards.
@Number09 His point is that those games are also on current gen consoles and will be for years to come. We'll be getting FIFA on PS4 and XB1 until at least FIFA 27. Halo Infinite is on XB1 too. So is Flight Sim. You're basically throwing away money to play current gen games on something marginally better than current gen but significantly worse than next gen.
Then in several years time when MS start releasing games that take advantage of the Series X power and need that level of hardware to run, you'll be able to play them at 20fps at sub-1080 dynamic resolutions. Wow. Might as well just set fire to a pile of money.
For the last time £250 will allow you to play the next generation games.......................your quote "Then in several years time when MS start releasing games that take advantage of the Series X power and ((need that level of hardware to run)), you'll be able to play them at 20fps at sub-1080 dynamic resolutions. "
1st thing is to accuse MS of such practices is a bit weird considering vannilla users of the X Box one can still play the beefed up Xbox one.........2nd even if it needs a hand crank to run it........for £250 you will be able to play ALL the next generation titles.
Your argument/point seems to have been made in haste and has no relevance to my discussion with Suckitbanmoderat.........I take the point the current gen will be around till at least Fifa 2025.....but there is no hiding away from the fact £250 will get you a unit that will play ALL next generation games....................if Microsoft did what you implied can you imagine the outcry.........just think about it for a minute.................hmmm anyway have a good day happy gaming.
@Number09
I think the part you fail to understand is the economics and the fact they won't run well. See, these kinds of people are irrelevant and also likely to wait to buy a console, which would be smart cosnodering digital is insanity priced and the only means aside from a service, but that's a rabbit hole for another time. Regardless, by that time the console will have depreciated and thus affordable, however, if history is any indication, most have no problem with a 400 pounds console or 450, obviously the conversion rate may be different but the trend is the same. It's not a big ask and doesn't take long to depreciate and you wouldn't be unfair in assuming people would want the best, even of they are casuals and the lowest common denominator. Regardless, I see no point in these people caring when said titles will be available on current gen until such a time they upgrade, whereby that original price will be more appealing and why they will gravitate to the more powerful series X. Also, your argument has a major flaw when you consider the package as a whole. As it has been pointed out before, the quality deficit cannot be understated when the xbox one X series X enhancements won't be seen on the series S and that's a big deal of you care about last gen games playing their best.
@Number09
Also, the people you talk about are casuals and xbox are trying to keep current gen around a bit longer. Seems kinda redundant if you ask me.
I was playing Ratchet and Clank, five seconds after putting the disc in the PS5. Not just loaded at a menu, but actually playing from the latest checkpoint.
So yeah, game loading times seem to be a thing of the past. Can’t say the same for install times, however.
As far as Kena: Bridge of Spirits goes, I am totally looking forward to this one. Looks great.
I have a feeling it might be download only, or will there be a disc version later, maybe?
