There’s no real huge surprise here, but it looks like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will run at 60 frames-per-second in 4K on the PlayStation 5, as was also confirmed for Xbox Series X previously. Word comes courtesy of a Eurogamer.de article, where it’s also mentioned that the release will leverage the Sony console’s SSD for improved loading times and Tempest Engine for 3D sound.
The Ubisoft published Viking-‘em-up has a marketing partnership with Microsoft, so details about the next-gen PlayStation version have been thin on the ground. Presumably the title will also take advantage of the unique features of the DualSense controller, but we’ll probably have to wait until closer to launch for more on that.

I don't know who that guy is in the pic, but he looks like he would have made a better God of War final boss than the one he fought. Just sayin'
Edited for spoilers, they wore me down. 😁
I guess I am renting AC: Valhalla for PS4, putting the disk in and see if it will upgrade me to AC: Valhalla for PS5
GameFly is still not listing any PS5 version, so hopefully that works.
@rjejr spot on
In fairness to ubisoft, its also one of the few ps5 games that is currently on sale for the same price as the PS4 edition
And just like I said it would. What a surprise. If there is a difference this time around it won't be HUGE.
This summer UBISOFT said it was 30 fps.. 😴
@rjejr Baldur is a good final boss imo.
I have to interest in the game but appreciate that they got it on par with the series X. I was already picturing the ***** show that was coming if it only ran at 30fps.
Ubisoft got off their a$$ and optimized the game. I think they started to look bad after everyother developer announced that their games will run 60fps at 4K.
@rjejr
Even though the story pretty much leans towards the fact that he's the final boss, your comment could be kind of a spoiler
After spider-man mm and demons souls 60 fps mode, I don’t think many ps5 gamers will tolerate 30 fps old-gen assassins creed games.
Goodbye 30fps, hello 60fps. It is going to be so much better.
Meh i don't think so. According to the internet the PS5 is too weak to run games at 4K/60 fps XD.
@Leon_93 the internet has no idea what they're talking about 80% of the time.
As someone who builds PCs myself, i'll just tell you myself that the hardware thats in both the PS5 and the XSX are literally around the mid range of a high end PC. the XSS is at the lower end of a High end PC.
They are literally stronger than about 50% of the PC base on steam in many regards. Only 8% of steam users even have 8 core processors. Lets not even get started on the GPUs. Less than 3% of the PC base is using an nvidia 2XXX series card. The most common card is a GTX 1060 which is made for 1080p superior gaming and can run 2K fine at best. Its outside the realm of 4K.
The hardware in the consoles at $500 is a literal steal at the power they have. If they can't do 4k/60 native, it'd be very close at them not reaching that target, it'd be unnoticable.
Good to know, but I'm much more interested in Immortals.
@Nalverus you're assumptions are wrong in most part. Do you have a navi2 card to have a basis on the midrange performance ? Second part, PC space lacks the optimization that consoles have for games. Even if you have the latest and grates they will never run at their full potential CPU and GPU alike. Consoles are made to do only one thing and only one spec(most part, last gen to consider for the moment), devs will optimize to use all cores all CU units as much as possible.
@SilkySmile89 to say PC games don't have optimization is absurd.
thats all down to how the devs optimize for the hardware.
tl;dr - have a little faith.
The hardware being used is 3xxx ryzen CPU line in the consoles, which is currently being succeeded by the unreleased ryzen 4xxx cpu line.
That makes the processor, in ps5 and xsx/s already outdated in hardware terms but not in usability. Its new but no longer bleeding edge.
That CPU line has already been out for a year and most developers are actually very familiar with that architecture now. CPU optimization won't be an issue.
Navi2 will be though but its probably not too far off from Navi.
Consoles ARE PCs. The parts are somewhat customized to work specifically as the company designed it to interact with the other parts on the motherboard and designed to use as little power as possible while squeezing as much as it can from the hardware without too much of a performance loss. So yes, its slightly gutted, but all things considering, most ryzen cpus run off the 65TDP requirement to begin with so the CPU still isn't hit that hard.
its still just hardware, no different than a PC. If any OS had code to run on that specific hardware, it will. Don't misinterpret that.
I've been using a gen 1 ryzen for 3 years now, and no game even comes close to maxing out this CPU. Which is actually nuts.
edit: i also play at 144+fps so that puts even more strain on the hardware at 2K resolution.
this means i'm entirely gpu bound.
@Agramonte just go digital with that one anyways
You've taken the word of that article without verifying the information it says. Where is this Ubisoft release with this information that the article mentions?
I’d have been worried if it wasn’t, it’s a cross gen game hardly pushing any serious graphical boundaries.
@Ridwaano they didn't say that, they said at the very least it would hit a locked 30 FPS and they were targeting higher frames. I think given the team were working during a pandemic, with new hardware, and a new iteration of the AnvilNext Engine, that was a wise thing to say. I however had no doubts they'd hit 4K 60 FPS.
@Ridwaano
The press said that.
I would expect cross gen games to hit this consistently, as well as first party output. I doubt true next gen third party games will optimised to the throughput of Sony’s console though, so as games become more complex I have no problem with dynamic resolution drops. 4K is largely a waste of resources these days.
@Nalverus the 6GB edition of the 1060 will (with a minor overclock and adequate cooling) push 4k in less demanding titles at the sacrifice of reducing settings a little (source I have one and got s little excited when I first got it) but yes generally games look better on that card at 1440p.
Game looks so boring. I loved AC right up until the last two installments.
It's just too much crap now. So boring.
60fps 4K on PS5 cross generation game, obvious it was.
I’d rather see options for dynamic 1440p pushing for that 120hz target. Games feel much better to play at 120, input lag is reduced and motion clarity is improved dramatically. When my 3080 eventually comes I will run at 1440p 120hz this gen, with all the RT options even getting to 120 at 1440p Will be a challenge. With the PS5 I will enable performance/framerate priority mode for every game that supports it.
I really hope Sony has a DLSS like solution to be used in the ps5. it's way better for games to run at 1440p and be upscaled to 4K than running 4K native. And considering DLSS is superior than their checkerboard solutions used in gamed like Horizon and Death Stranding, I hope at least they have enhanced it look to better
Why buy a console just buy a pc that leaves a console in the dust . U can play all Xbox games on pc . And half the ps5 exclusives coming to pc . If u already got a half decent pc u can just upgrade the gpu no need to touch anything else the ps5 10 tflops - Xbox 12 - pc up to 30 tflops playing 8k . Any game can run at 4K 60 FPS if u dumb down the graphics enough . Once they implement more ray tracing and better graphics consoles will be back to 30 FPS 😂that’s the trade off graphics or FPS
@Possessed Any sources for the "half the ps5 exclusives coming to pc" or is that something you've just made up? Also not everyone one has the space, the time, the money or the inclination to be bothered with keeping up with PC updates and their high prices.
We will explore expanding our first-party titles to the PC platform, in order to promote further growth in our profitability," Sony said in its report. Direct from Sony Microsoft just bought Bethesda parent company - so I would say no Skyrim , doom, fallout etc on ps5 or maybe a year later as Microsoft owns them all now to.
@NYJetsfan123 Having played the game when it released, 2 years 5 months and 3 days ago now, I look at it as less of a "spoiler" and more of a "warning" that the final fight is lame and the game ends unfulfillingly. There are at least 2 events that happen after that which are spoilers for the next part of the game, those I still won't reveal, nearly 2 1/2 years after the game released.
@Nalverus i'm with you on this..but you do know that you will always be wrong...dont you?
@rjejr I don't mind too much, but bear in mind that for those who missed out last gen, it's in the collection, so there are likely to be those giving it a go soon this year.
@Nepp67 If you ask 100 people who they want the final boss to be in a God of War game that takes place in Norse mythology I'm guessing very few say Baldur.
The fight wasn't that bad, but he's really more of a Batman type villain than Kratos. I almost felt bad for the guy.
@theheadofabroom How many people reading the comments on Pushsquare missed out on God of War but are buying a PS5 and planning on playing it on there? It's 2 1/2 years old. If they are reading PS I'm sure they've come across all kinds of spoilers by now.
But I do appreciate the concern about spoilers, spoilers suck.
@MarcurShaw Thanks. I'm guessing it wasn't a spoiler for you then. Or a warning for that matter.
@rjejr a better one? are you freakin stupid or something?
@rjejr i mean I only have a sample of myself, but know I've seen a few others who have said they came over from NLife or Pure Xbox
@Nalverus when you see minimum/recommended specs, that is the sweet spot for devs to optimize their games, because most people are not running 2080/3080 ... When you play this games on those types of cards you are just brute forcing the GPU on them, optimization is minimum. The PC space is so segmented from different hardware to API(DirectX Vulkan Metal) is difficult for devs to optimize for all, that's why the returns for 3000$+ rig's it's not worth it. SSDs still underutilized on the PC space. Even if consoles are using the x86 architecture they still have limited instructions sets so actually you can't catalogue them like PCs. So even if the hardware on consoles is not bleeding edge you will get better visuals/performance from your money than anything "medium spec".
And FYI when you're running for a lower res with high FPS you will always be CPU BOUND.
@theheadofabroom I edited it shortly before you replied. But don't take my word for it, see for yourself.
@jomy1990 "are you freakin stupid or something?"
Asks the person who is too stupid to know how to use sentence case.
@rjejr my bad, once I start scrolling down I rarely scroll back up
@theheadofabroom Not a problem. Only took like 3 people pointing out to me that I was being a jerk to admit to myself that I was being a jerk on purpose - hated how that game ended, the last fight, the last area, the cliffhanger dream - so I edited it. Still stand by my feelings but no need to spoil it for others.
Though my intent is still a warning, as I wish somebody would have warned me 2 1/2 years ago that the game ended on a huge cliffhanger and it was really more like the first part of a story and not a complete story, even if people want to argue it was a complete game.
You just don't put a dimensional traveling machine in a game with 7 worlds to travel to but you can only travel to half of them b/c they are saving the other half for the next game and get to call it a complete story. Maybe they'll call the next game God of War 2 and people will then be able to figure it out. But I'm not buying it until I learn how it ends, or doesn't, I want the warning if there will be a part 3.
@Agramonte PS5 version isnt out anytime soon and you have to have the disc to play.
@rjejr
Just so you know, I wasn't looking to pick a fight or anything. Just simply stating that it came off as a spoiler before someone attacked you. Regarding the age of the game though, I still haven't gotten around to some of the games that launched in the first year of the ps4 release. I absolutely love this gen of playstation for that reason! So freaking many games to play! Haha
@rjejr not really! I'm a GoW fanboy, so no spoiler there for me at all. Just honestly agreed with your comment!
But, but, but only the new Xbox can do 60FPS, 4K... As long as a game is good I don't really care really. All the games I have played since the PS1 days I have just played without getting obsessed with all this technical stuff.
@MarcurShaw
@NYJetsfan123 I haven't gotten around to playing a lot of games either, know lots of people are in the same boat, just figured by now anybody reading comments on PS, even if they hadn't played the game, had to know how it ended, just from all the articles on here.
But I finally decided if that many people felt that way, who was I to argue, so I changed it. I hate spoilers myself ever since FF7 in 1998. Got stuck on some puzzle and read a guide online, and read ahead a page too far. So I do try to avoid spoilers, suppose I didn't see that as a big one. Mistakes made, and since corrected.
@WCRjv27 Hey, Ubi updated the pre-order page. It is out on PS5 on November 12th.
I'll have the PS4 disk I rented from GameFly. I guess I'll find out when I put the disk in... if anything I just loose 1 rental slot.
@Agramonte Holy *****! Thats new news. Great find.
@rjejr you leave Desmond from Lost outta this!
@BowTiesAreCool I leave Lost out of everything, never seen an episode. 😎
It was the same crap with Origins when it was partnered with Xbox
@Leon_93 There is a difference between 4k 60fps max quality and 4k60fps with lower graphic settings. Technically when it comes to Assassin's creed the ps5 does not have the power to 4k60fps with max quality nor does any PC without an RTX 3000 series GPU.
@SilkySmile89 doubtful they optimized anything. They just lowered graphic settings from max quality or they made XSX version for example is running on DX12 Ultimate instead of DX11, which is very unlikely and the benefits of this result in being able to almost max game out at 4k60fps.
@Nalverus Such an awful way to judge hardware, more than half of steam users in that survey don't even play modern games given 10% are intel onboard GPU's, 80% are windows 10 users, some are MAC users, dual core cpu/other account for 27% remove these and take away mac/linux users who account for many dual core cpus given 51% of mac users on steam have dual core CPUs and approx 25% on linux. Seen here: https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/cpus/.
Here's another telling tale of how skewed those numbers are only 35% of the intel users have CPU clock of 3ghz or higher. That right there tells you 65% of intel users are not really main stream gamers buying modern games.
8% of steam users is could mean 80 million users as of April 2019 steam had 1 billion accounts.
