Update: Oh, that's a shame. It turns out there probably isn't a new Yakuza game planned for reveal during Sunday's SEGA Nama broadcast. The co-host in question has now said that she misunderstood the panel's description, which reads: "there will be new information on the Yakuza series". So, there's going to be new info on something relating to the Yakuza franchise, but you probably shouldn't go into this expecting a new title anymore.
Original story: We're still a few months away from playing Yakuza: Like a Dragon here in the west and yet SEGA is already planning to announce the next entry in the series. The news was confirmed by a co-host of the upcoming SEGA Nama broadcast, which takes place on Sunday 27th September 2020 as part of the digital Tokyo Games Show. The livestream in question takes place at 8pm JST / 12pm BST / 7am ET / 4am PT.
It feels a bit too early for the reveal of another mainline entry, so maybe this could be a spin-off title? A sequel to the fantastic Judgment? Or maybe even the localisation of Yakuza Ishin or a Yakuza Kiwami 3? The only way we'll find out what it is is by tuning in this Sunday. What do you hope this new Yakuza game is? Let us know in the comments below.

I think a spin off or a localisation of Ishin is the safe bet. With 3 recently on the remastered collection and still very playable I can't see them doing Kiwami 3. Likewise I don't see a new numbered one. Judgement 2 for my money.
And I still haven't played any Yakuza game. How much time would it get to catch up with the entire series? 500h?
Only on Xbox baby
@Rhaoulos Good question. If you just stick to the story you can get through each game in around 15 hours. But there's lots of side activities you can do which can double that for each game.
Playing each game at a comfortable place without rushing I'd say you're looking at 200hours going from 0-6. That said fatigue would set in, they're very good games but they are similar and so probably best to play them with a break after every couple of games.
@Rhaoulos if you focus on the main story and play 0-6 I'd say around 150h playtime. I dedicated practically half a year of my gaming time (which is limited) playing yakuza only.
Fingers crossed for Yakuza Kart!
Sure hope it's the two feudal Japan titles or a full on remake of the PSP game, but that's very unlikely.
Probably more relevant to Xbox these days seeing as Sony seems to not care about this franchise anymore just like it doesn't seem to care about Japanese games in general the last couple years unless they're super mainstream.
@Kidfried
Who's been advertising Yakuza more these days? Who has the censorship policy that clearly targets Japanese devs?
@Gamer83 Can we not take this comments section off-topic, please?
I still need to finish Yakuza 5 and still not sure when I'll get Yakuza 7, but man I hope this is the samurai spin-offs getting a re-release
@LiamCroft
It wasn't off topic. The initial comment was about how Yakuza is more associated with Xbox right now which wasn't trolling but is true, Sony doesn't give a crap about it right now. I'll stop but I didn't take anything off topic nor was I 'trolling' some people just don't like when you criticize the wonderful and perfect Sony.
@Gamer83 The topic is about the announcement of a new Yakuza game. That has nothing to do with your perceived view of how Sony deal with Yakuza. This is a comment section about what the new Yakuza game could be, not a contest between Sony and Xbox and their Yakuza games.
It's Yakuza: Gamer83 Edition. It's set in Sony HQ and the end boss is Jim Ryan.
@ApostateMage CEO OF SONY INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT: JIM RYAN
Also knowing Yakuza level of plot twist, the final boss is actually Mark Cerny lol.
@SuperSaeko Personally, Kiwami 2 was the best Yakuza due to the fact it has Majima story which ties heavily to Yakuza 0 as well.
@Darylb88 Considering Yakuza 7 Japan release, im not suprise if its coming out on December 2020/ Early 2021 with western release somewhere end 2021.
I understand Kiwami 3 is in development so i'll be amazed if its not that.
For those saying Sony dont care about this franchise, get over yourselves. The importance of this series to Playstation - particularly in Japan (even if its popularity has waned a little) is huge. I saw first hand the launch of Yakuza 3 in Japan. You couldn't move in Tokyo without seeing the game plastered everywhere and the palpable excitement from fans.
It's not Sony's fault if microsoft has gone to SEGA with a big bag of cash. This Sony bashing is out of control now. Just stop.
A new game would be great, though I'm in no rush for it since I'm still on Yakuza 0. Plus my progress is slow in that since I keep getting distracted with the Out Run arcade game in it.
Better bring back Tatsuya from psp games, he was ace and shelved.
@Gamer83
Do you know why Xbox are advertising it more? Because Phil went to Japan 3 times and came back on the third time with a consolation prize. They paid for timed exclusivity of a next gen upgrade and advertising rights of Yakuza 7. It's well known, that's why.
But who has the entire series on their platform? Who just got an exclusive Japanese RPG published by Atlus? Who is owned by Sega. Who has exclusivity of Judgement also published by Sega? Who has Persona 5 and Royal as an exclusive?
Oh, that's right, Sony does.
PlayStation is far more popular in Japan than Xbox and Japanese people generally do not like or buy American products out of respect for their own culture.
And before you claim "Microsoft can buy Sega". Actually they can't that's why they haven't.
Japanese Foreign Investment laws prevent any foreign company from fully purchasing or having a majority market share in any Japanese company and as of April 2020 they have tightened those laws to further prevent this. Why you may ask? Because the arcade culture is still extremely popular over there and Sega makes the Japanese government a crap tonne of money from it.
Imagine a Yakuza Warriors game haha
Or Yakuza VR would be pretty cool.
@SuperSaeko @tameshiyaku @pip_muzz
Thanks for the replies. That's a lot less scary than I expected, so I might pick the up someday. I usually play a couple of other games in-between games of the same series/compilation, so it helps avoid the occasional overdose
I am going to guess that the announcement will be that the rest of the Yakuza games are going to drop on Game Pass in order to prepare for Yakuza: Like a Dragon release - especially since 0, Kiwami, and Kiwami 2 are already there.
"No Yakuza reveal planned for Sunday"
A true Dame Da Ne moment.
@Gamer83 Very good points. The greatest fans are the ones who can laugh at themselves and criticize what they love, not blindly follow and worship it, which in this case is Sony.
To appease the mods and general group here though, I just finished Yakuza 3 Remastered, hated it and loved Yakuza 4 Remastered, and am on Yakuza 5 Remastered (boy that's a mouthful). If they do announce a Kiwami 3, I'll be a little mad I wasted time on 3, but hopefully the quality of life improvements and extras will be worth a second run-through. All the enemies turtling and those chase sequences...hated it. Didn't mind the orphanage or beach life at all--just the combat AI.
I saw an article on another site about a Yakuza movie. If its not a new game, could be related to this.
They're most likely going to announce xbox and pc versions of Yakuza 3,4, 5, and 6 tbh.
It will be in relation to the rumoured movie I would imagine.
@SuperSaeko The Majima everywhere system was a fantastic addition.
@GADG3Tx87 Xbox is growing it's influence on japan because at the end only price matters for some I guess
@SuperSaeko Eh not really, just finding him in random areas and seeing him do wacky stuff like being a zombie, just disguising himself as a woman, or even just finding him and playing a round of bowling is great. It adds to the gameplay, replayability and Majima's character(And just being hilarious). It never took away from fighting him in the story for me.
There's been a new Yakuza game every single year in Japan since 2005. Sometimes multiple if you count the spin-offs, remasters etc. An announcement is definitely due!
Or a maybe a well-deserved break for the team.
