I'm always skeptical though.

Absolutely zero chance of Sony under cutting MS for one simple reason they don't need/have to, the disc based ps5 will be £450...unless Sony have been slow to reveal the price because they have to launch at £550.

No reason not to tell us the price at this point. I'm curious how aggressive they'll be on that front compared to Microsoft.

@teknium_ I think there's pretty much 0% chance of PS5 disc version being more expensive than £449/$499 especially with Xbox prices already being out in the open.

Last gen, the PS4 was more powerful and $100 less. So I think some people are expecting Sony to pull that move again and undercut. I don’t think they’re in a position to do that again and I think we’ll be fortunate if they’re able to match the price of $499 usd.

At last, all I need to know is how much, when and what games are actually here for launch

@Hopewell true. the only reason ps4 was $100 cheaper is because kinnect was packaged with every xbox, otherwise both would have been at the same price point. you are right, though, sony doesn't have the incentive to undercut the series x. that said, the series x is theoretically more powerful than the ps5 (other than the ps5 having a superior ssd) — it would be a hell of move if sony listed ps5 at $450 and the all digital at $400 (i still believe the all digital will be $400 regardless of what happens).

Why they have to show the PS5 looking all black like that, it's just rubbing it in. Anyhow, day one for me again. I have a space on my wall sorted and I'll be getting one of those floating wall brackets so I don't have to care how big it is or how ugly it looks! I'm looking forward to replaying some of the PS4 greats without needing headphones.

@MichaelHawj - disc version. i like the flexability of buying either digital or physical. i get your point though about the digital - it may be easier to get. what i'm wondering is if each person is allowed to buy just one ps5 - or one of each model? if each person can buy one of each, that digital might be hard to come by too.

@vegeta11 - gotcha! and i agree. when i heard that MS opens preorders on the 22nd, i've said since that sony has to give price/release date before then and have preorders open no later than the 22nd.

My gut reaction - they were going to announce it on Monday for Wednesday but w/ all the Xbox news this week - a week earlier than planned as Phil Spencer tweeted - they decided to not deal with insane social media fans all weekend long and just said "screw it, announce it now". Yesterday would have been better though.

Hopefully this is like the bits in the likes of Rocky II/III etc.,where Rocky gets his second wind & brings the counter attack after taking an extended time-out after getting head-butted the last week or two!
Don't get me wrong,I've loved the exclusives & AA indies giving a great showing of what Sony next-gen is all about.
But I'm still waiting for that promised teardown-I want to know about the new UI interface,that button replacing the share one, battery duration on controllers,& esp. the b/c functionality & how it'll operate in greater detail,& if there's any additional PS5 services related to the PSN store etc. too.

Just let me pre order and pay for it over 24 months please 🤣 oh and also a black model day one would be nice. Plus demon souls 🤛🏻

I will say if a price and release date aren't shown there will be a giant backlash so big that it will overshadow anything that was shown. Hopefully Sony understand this and will come prepared.

Other than that I really want to see the next gow and hopefully some Demon souls gameplay!

I think they will announce a price and date. I want to see some major shake ups with PS Now and PS Plus though, something to compete with Gamepass. I think with how aggressive Microsoft are being, and how good of a deal a Series S is with Gamepass, (i am seriously considering that to be my first xbox system ever at some point) Sony just doing the same old same old isnt going to cut it. Unless they undercut the competition in a BIG way. But even then how long can it last when up against gamepass. 2 games a month you might not like that are only available for that month to add to your library or else you miss out, or a bunch of games for way less that are always available as long as you're subscribed. PS Now kind of fills that spot but its not available everywhere and certainly not where i live. Gamepass is. I want a PS5 but for the first time ever M$ have tempted me. Surely there are more people that that think the same. This gen will surely be interesting and disruptive. And we would all benefit if Sony started going aggressive and disruptive too instead of what feels like some of that post PS2 arrogance shining through after the success of PS4 i.e talking about value, the exotic look of the PS5, clearly stating they believe in generations which could mean they like the status quo. Don't get me wrong, i like the look of the PS5, the dual sense looks like the perfect controller i cant wait to get my hands on one. I really want to play Spider Man Miles Morales and Ratchet and Clank. But do i want it at launch if there is no decent response to Gamepass? I just don't know now. I'm excited to see how it plays out thats for sure.

This HAS to detail price and launch details. Microsoft have made a major move in the right direction with pricing the Series S the way they did. I at least expect a launch date given how we're hypothetically speaking, just under two months from launch.

I guess they have had to do this quickly because of xbox giving a date and price in order to compete.

I honestly thing Sony are in a hard position. Xbox has given the green light on a £500 console but does Sony really want to price the disc-less at £450, £150 more? I don't see they have much option tbh and although £450 will be a decent offer in comparison it suddenly doesn't seem great...

Probably go the disc edition though I prefer downloading digital, but there is always the odd game that I play say COD single player than have no use for it after, so can sell the disc.

This is just a blog announcement for an event, not a breakdown announcement of every little thing that's going to be in there... The price difference on the PS4 and Xbox One was mainly due to the kinect. There will be a price difference on the PS5 and Xbox Series X due to the PS5 stand. That sort of tech does not come cheap I hear!
Seriously though they will have to match the price to not lose the initial momentum. Doesn't matter which is the better console. They both run COD, FIFA, Madden and Fortnite, so for the average Joe it is all about price.

I really dont care about price at all, im getting it regardless. I just want to see more games that haven't been shown and to find out the release date

@Darylb88 I think they will take a bigger loss on the DE so they will move more units. That’s all profit for them. Yes it’s an issue. Most people will think that you are paying a premium for the disc version but actually they are taking the loss on digital. The price between them will be controversial either way. If it’s just 50$ people would be better off just buying the disc version.

@SilkySmile89 Yeah I guess they can't win either way. Hopefully they take the hit as £399 is my sweet spot for either the digital or physical. I'm planning on getting the Series S at £249 so a £349 or £399 PS5 would allow me both for what I have saved up.

@Darylb88 the only way they can please every body is either increase storage on the 500$ or reduce on the 400$. But looks like 825 is set in stone for both consoles. Or who knows they didn’t say that explicitly. During Mark Cerny’s presentation, he said that the storage is 825. During the June announcement was nothing about storage.

If you buy a digital edition it means you have a good internet connection and you can download games easily, and can live with a smaller SSD. Even you can use a ext HDD just for storage and when you want to play them just transfer on the SSD. IMO they could drop the storage to 512ish and drop the price even lower to 350$ and then it’s really competitive.

As a gamer who prefers physical media, the disc-less PS5 is irrelevant to me. However the Series S is appealing for a couple of reasons. My Xbox OG/360/One digital collection being available to me in a different room. And GamePass. Microsoft may have actually convinced me to buy both consoles.

I think with MS being aggressive, Sony can’t afford to not give us price and release date this week. They also need seriously good pricing as MS have played their hand very well with series s and game pass. It almost feels like a reversal of this gens launch to me so far...

@IronMike - xbox preorders start on the 22nd. sony has next week to get price/ release date out to get their preorders opened no later than the 22nd. it doesn't take much smarts to figure sony wants their preorders to be live when MS opens up theirs.
price, release date will be announced at one of those events next week and preorders will start no later than sept. 22.

@UrNowMyMonkey It's backlit so it shows in extreme shadow, but if you look at the upper-left corner where it's better lit, you can see it's still the white version.

I think the fact it's backlit is just supposed to look dramatic, but instead it makes me really wish they were releasing it in black. I'll just hide mine behind the TV anyway o/

@theheadofabroom I wasn't too bothered about it being black but it would be nice considering my surround sound, sky q, ps4 and ps4 Pro all housed in my TV unit are black. Not to mention the black bezeled 75inch 4k beside the 50 inch 4k I bought for the girlfriend so we could game side by side, all black just makes for a completely ascetic setup but my unit is white gloss with a black gloss drop down drawer so either way I will just be happy to have a PS5

Never owned an Xbox before. I don't care which company sells more consoles. I just care about games and my wallet.

@TheAdza - with a new console i care about who gives me the most and best games - and that's always been sony. i will agree that if you're cash-strapped and need to watch your spending, gamepass could give you a way to play a lot of games without spending a lot of money - but i think you miss a lot in the sony exclusives. good luck with whatever choice you make.

@TheAdza I agree I think Sony will combine PS+ and PSNOW which would give all Ps5 users access to the majority of the p4 back catalogue, certainly the PS exclusives as a way to get PC and Xbox customers to snap up a Playstation. This combined with great exclusives will be how Sony win.

i tried gamestop.com - i got one in my cart but it wouldn't let me check out. said, not available. they all couldn't have been taken that fast - preorders tonight are really wonky. we'll just have to wait to see what goes on tomorrow - good luck!
