This is cool

There’s still a future for the Shenmue franchise, as Crunchyroll has announced that it’s partnering with Adult Swim on an anime adaptation of the legendary series. A full 13-episode run is currently in production, which will air on Crunchyroll outside of Japan and mainland China. It’ll also feature as part of Adult Swim’s Toonami in the United States.

While there’s currently no date attached, Chikara Sakurai is directing at Telecom Animation Film. Series creator Yu Suzuki will serve as an executive producer on the project. This all bodes well for the continuation of the series, which has been uncertain since the crowd-funded release of Shenmue III late last year.

We felt the threequel was enjoyable against all odds in our review: "Shenmue III is a game lost in time, but that’s probably the greatest compliment you can pay this long-awaited sequel. Newcomers will be utterly bemused by its slice of life-style idiosyncrasies, but for franchise fans this is the faithful follow-up that they’ve been waiting almost two decades for. This is a weird and wonderful game."
