Okay Sony, we get it. We know the PS5 is coming. We just want to know when and for how much. The Japanese giant appears to be sending out yet another wave of PS5 marketing emails, this time inviting fans to "discover a deeper gaming experience". The message links once again to the official PS5 webpage, which has all of the feature details that we already know.
Rumours are rife on the internet right now, with many of them suggesting that there's a PS5 event planned for early September. If that really is the case, then it won't be long at all until Sony says something. At this point, though, we wouldn't like to get anyone's hopes up.
Does your heart skip a beat when you see an email from PlayStation land in your inbox? Keep waiting in the comments section below.

Hopefully my pockets are deeper than their gaming experience.
Ok-I have defended Sony’s odd release strategy to a point. I am sure Covid has made a huge mess of the launch plan. And I am def. buying a PS5 somewhere close to launch.
But I must say, it is pretty ridiculous that we don’t know a price and launch date at this point. If a rumored Nov. release is true, we are about 8 weeks away. Just tell us what the deal is already.
Covid can not be used as an excuse now just total rubbish and this cat and mouse excuse waiting for a competitor to reveal a price is just ridiculous. There is literally no excuse for this lack of communication, I’ve defended this too but I’m starting to get annoyed with us finding the information from game sources or rumours example: Ubisoft confirming the backwards compatibility...
No price, no release date, no launch line-up confirmation, no tear down video... etc
At this point the price has to be an amount that they know isn't going to go down well. There can be no other reason for leaving a price reveal this late. The amount of nonsense already surrounding this gen has me a little worried. I can see some people being turned off by all this weird Stockholm syndrome approach the industry seems to be taking on recently. PC and Nintendo combo is starting to look more appealing by the day.
It ain't going to be cheap. But I still firmly believe Sony hasn't locked in the final price point yet...
Its really starting to worry me the price my be higher than we expect. Most of us are thinking 499 if that is the case there is no reason to hold out for Microsoft price. I will buy at 499 even if Microsofts is just $1.
In addition to the frustration we're all feeling because of this waiting game Sony and Microsoft has us all involuntarily playing, now Nvidia has (smartly) thrown a wrench in our next-gen upgrade plans.
"Hey Sony and Microsoft, your consoles are on par with our 2 year old high end GPUs? What's that you say? The consoles will be able to outperform current top tier PCs? Well we'd like to introduce you to our new 3000 series cards."
@Turismo4GT Top end 3000 is $1,499 it better triple console performance. Don't matter I am sticking with my 1070Ti.
@jamberino93 To be fair it's really hard to launch a console during a global pandemic, that's why the price and the release date aren't revealed yet
Like, we get it, it's still coming.
And still not even a glimpse of the UI with only two months to go. Surely that's ready?
@Milt Sony has been building them for a while they know their cost. They could come up with a price they feel good at. What about Microsoft they jumped the gun and released everything but price early.
@JohnKarnes You share my thoughts...if it was below $500, there surely would not have been any need to wait...I hope I'm wrong!
Just a reminder that we didn't get the Switch price until 7 weeks (and 1 day) before launch. There was no global pandemic and no game of chicken with a major competitor. They just chose to leave it until 50 days before launch.
@JohnKarnes True, but when you consider the 3070 still outperforms the 2080 (and in addition the new consoles) by a considerable margin for $500, if you've already got the oter hardware to take advantage of that card the value of it is pretty good. Possibly even the 3060 may be able to go toe-to-toe with the consoles, whenever that card is announced.
@Matroska But I think it's precisely because of COVID (And 2020 in general) that people are getting antsy. This year has sucked, and the PS5 is this big fancy thing a ton of people are looking forward to. So there's questions of if it's even going to come out this year because of COVID, or how much we need to set aside because of the state of the economy and/or job status, or if people can even afford this thing that we're hyped for due to rumors that it'll be more expensive than we expect due to its parts. So the circumstances you described for the switch makes sense, but it also explains all the tension a ton of people are feeling.
@Milt I agree with your point 100% but all the information is being leaked by everyone else apart from Sony. They are clearly waiting for Xbox to make the first move which is just pointless because I've always said without meaning to be a fanboy. The PS5 has proven on a many occasions that it's the preferred console, so they have nothing to lose.
All the information is just coming in little drips here and there it's quite a weird marketing planning.
I understand covid has affected beyond many shows and delayed events and information 100% but when they keep posting about the dualsense can do this and that and the ps5 is this and that.. yeah that's cool but they are missing the special sauce (release date and price)
Holidays are coming people like to plan ahead and this isn't helping. As it will push buyers away, companies that are straight up are the preferred companies to the general public buying the products.
I personally believe it’s in the region of £550/£600 which is steep and both console know they will get backlash for it but they need to rip the band aid off and tell us and see what the reaction really is like
i got the email yesterday. it's fine but all i want is preorder. i know i'm getting the ps5 and pulse headset - just let me preorder.
@jamberino93 - i think it's hard to confirm a release date during a pandemic. i'm with you on price though. while i'm not concerned about the price, i do understand many have to factor that into their purchasing plans. both sony and MS need to let people know how much the consoles cost so those on a budget can decide how to come up with the cash.
@Turismo4GT - what Nvidia is selling has no bearing on me wanting a ps5. the only way the RTX matters is if it can play new, ps5 exclusives on the same day it launches on ps5 - and THAT is not going to happen.
@Brydontk you are 100% correct.
@ankehuber - 2 months to go and there has been no gameplay from a seriesx game running on a seriesx. - that is a bigger mystery to me.
Yup I got the email, man this drip feed marketing is kind of suck 😕
I want ps5 event that tell me everythings about ps5 like the ui, launch games, price, etc
Well the Mario 35th remasters turned out to be true. Now I just need Sony’s state of play on the 9th with full details!
Come on Sony, give these poor desperate people a price and an exact date and time so they can find something else to moan about.
Don't get what people are worried about, okay we "usually" know by now but I wasn't aware there was a "Big Book of Console Launches" rule book that needs to be followed. It's not uncommon for tech to get announced and released a few days/weeks later.
Launch date, around November. Price, £350-£650. There you go, if you can't make a decision with that information you probably don't really want one at launch anyway. (And that's okay!!!!)
@jamberino93 Covid can be used as an excuse, for a variety of reasons. Many stores might be closed still, and the health risks involved for such a launch could cause an issue. The border between Canada and US is still closed for shipping items to I believe, so that might cause a problem. I don't blame them for waiting.
@SmileyK Of course not, I already set getting ps5. I do want to know more about the system though, I don't like this kind of drip feed advertisement, I want full event like apple iphone event or nvidia rtx 30xx event.
I am going to call it......... I wont get an Email
Some Portuguese retailers are sending emails "PS5 is coming", as recent as a few days ago. So I wouldn't really be surprised if Sony comes out with new info soon.
Shambles on an epic scale. At this rate we'll be able to buy ps5 games before the console.
I'm not joking!
@SmileyK WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU EVEN ON ABOUT?! I am not even bothered in the slightest about backwards compatibility as most people are. I have a ps3 and if wanted to play old games then I would be playing them on an older console or go to a game store and be looking at the pre-owned section.
Also if you are referring to my comments about UBISOFT then hardly shows I'm crying desperate for backwards compatibility does it? Sony should be announcing what this console can do and what it has to offer OTHER THEN FAST SSD and what the controller can do it's hyped up in so many articles, it's like yeah ok but what else can it offer?
We are getting rumours all the time from other sources but nothing from Sony. The silence is rubbish.
@SmileyK My main point is that other companies are either leaking or revealing certain features of the ps5 when Sony need to start communicating it's features more other then mentioning features we already know about.
More importand tha price/launch date is HOW MANY USB PORTS?????
It's absolutely nonsense at this point. This endless game of chicken between Sony & Microsoft needs to stop. Both are rumored to release in November but both are waiting for the other to make a move it's bloody September. The economy world wide is in the crapper it would be nice to know how much I need to spend/save for with Xmas right around the corner from whatever the release date is.
@SmileyK More information on how ps plus and ps now are going to work would be nice!
Release daye and price is most important going forward. Holidays are coming up and people want and need to make the decision.. we have 8 weeks and they have really SOLD the console to the public really have they?
At this rate the release date is going to be the day after the reveal.
Looking at Cyberpunk yesterday in all its glory with full ray tracing may have changed my xmas plans, 3080 matched with a 8 core Ryzen 4 (provided they release before year end) with PC gamepass may be what ends up plugged into my TV for the next 12 months. I'll pick a BLACK ps5 when they have a few first party games in the bag but I really want to play cyberpunk how I saw it yesterday
@JohnKarnes if the Xbox is $1 I’ll buy the ps5 and the Xbox lol
@Gmork___ not really
@Consolegamer123
Is so
Does it really matter if we don't find out the price until late? We know it'll be £600 or under. IMO if this allows them to be competitive against Microsoft then it's not a huge price to pay (pun intended). Furthermore, the longer they let it go, I do wonder if this means, if anything, that they can't just whack on a huge price tag - as THAT would really add insult to injury, damage credibility and goodwill. There are probably several game-plans in place, people probably needn't worry about anything.
I'm feeling like the PS5 launch is like a friend who's throwing a party. They're promising me it's going to be the best party ever, but they haven't told me what date it's on, who's going to be there or where it is.
I really don’t understand why people freak out so hard. Am I excited? Of course. Am I hoping after 25 years of love and support I get picked, of course! Am I freaking out that today I don’t know the price or the exact release date, Jesus Christ no. It’s a safe bet they will both be announced before you can buy it. I’m just so happy we’re at this time again I just can’t find it in myself to be bothered by anything PS related. I know people will come back at me like, they’re a company with customers and they aren’t being customer friendly!!! Oh Frankie, it must be nice not to worry if you have the money! I mean I think we can all pretty much estimate a price. Do what I did, prepare for it to be 1000 dollars and be presently surprised when its less. I just look at all the people bitching and I’m like, come on gals and guys, the ***** PS5 is about to come out! The ***** ps5! After how hard this year is, all I can possibly have is joy when I think of that!
Next week guys on Thursday we get all the answer we need
Sorry to be "thst guy" but even though I wouldn't mind paying close to a thousand Canadian for the next console, I would be disappointed if majority of the releases cannot support 4K 60fps,
especially with the supposed higher price point and they hype of more powerful machines. I'll definitely buy one regardless but I can see how that can be a make it or break it thing for others who are not loyal to the brand.
I think I'm more interested in the bundle options than anything else.
Price isn't really an issue. It's a game console, it's gonna cost about what consoles cost. And i figure it gets here when it gets here.
But while my impulse is to hold off for a while after launch, I could be swayed by a spiffy LE bundle. I recall Sony saying we should expect more of those with the PS5. And I'm kind of a sucker for those.
@ApostateMage Those poor desperate people are potential buyers. Your arrogance is embarrassing.
I'm so over it right now. I have $2000 saved for the PS5, extra controller, two headsets, a camera, and a copy of (almost) every launch game. Still no word on price, preorders, launch titles. Nvidia just released the RTX 3000 series cards. As soon as they go live I'm ordering the $1400 RTX 3090. This will be the first PS console I don't pick up at launch. Maybe next year, maybe not, especially if PS Now starts offering the ability to play PS5 games on PC I'll just end up subscribing to that instead of getting the system.
Am I crazy or is nobody giving Microsoft crap for the same thing, even when rumors say they’re releasing first?
@rinks361 That's just sad
@ApostateMage Exactly.
Been a PlayStation fan boy since my childhood. I'm now 30 years old. I'm just gonna say it: ***** Sony
I'm not playing the sheep game anymore. @andyhunter132
You talk about arrogance? You? Go on, beeeeeeeeehhhh!
OMG!!!!! I got an 3 Emails from Sony
1, Do I want to preorder The Avengers?.....
2, Buy Dutch ’87 Pack – now available for Predator: Hunting Grounds......
3, Preorder Call Of Duty BOCW for early Beta access.....
No console reserve/ preorder forms :-/
You guys must not know how marketing works and what hype is, nor how huge resource it is for selling any new thing to people. I mean, let's face it, being dull may very well just be a prerequisite for being an an an admin for this website these days. Regardless, as soon as you take away the mystery, the hype mostly dies with it and gives way to anticipation to get the thing. I mean, clearly, the hype is playable with many ready to pounce at that preorder as soon as the price and links are live. The point is there are approximately 100 mill ps4 users potentially jumping aboard, so let's not understate the situation this pertains to and how they are playing it right by keeping people wanting more by giving out just enough info. I may suggest getting over it and report on something that is actually newsworthy while developing some patience. This was the kind of bs that met the pre-announcement of the PS5, yet look how that turned out... let's just say "record-breaking" kinda speaks for itself.
9/9/2020 stop whining ✔️
It will cost between 5 and 6 hundred bucks.
It will be out between November and December.
It will be awesome.
Microsoft and Sony need to do a Deal or No Deal price reveal. Both on stage at the same time then open the lids. See who has undercut who 😎
Sony are not stupid. Getting off to a good start is key. It's like them and MS are waiting to see who goes first?. With both consoles less than 3 months ago one of these guys needs to go first soon.
Sony are managing potential sales well. Hopefully none of the usual eBay nonsense where buyers snap up consoles then wait for no stock and then sell on eBay for silly money...
If stock is short then there will be some peed off Sony gamers...
this is getting frustrating, only Nvidia has come up with price and availability.
Don't get me wrong, I'm getting very impatient waiting for more info and I wish Sony would have shared more by now. But the hysterical way people on here and across the internet are going on...have some self-respect people and just chill. It's only a games console.
If I'm being honest, I'm losing interest now. Was hyped back on June/July and if pre orders had went live then, I'd have been on it like a heartbeat. Now I'm, mehhh. Obvs the price is going to be a sticking point or they would have announced it by now. I'm waiting on the backlash from all those who think it's going to be sub £500. I'll probably wait until they bring out a slim/compact version of this monster.
I've gotten like 2 emails this past week..
Didn't get this email either. On any of the emails I signed up with. In the US, pretty active PlayStation user. Dunno.
@gamer_since_83 or they're waiting for a competitor to reveal their price first?
@SegaBlueSky so people shouldn't be passionate or really interested?
Ok.
@SegaBlueSky "self-respect"? You're asking too much of them.
@Steve30000 that’s obviously not what I meant. I love games and can’t wait for the next generation. And sure, I’m surprised there’s not more info and wish we knew more. But getting outraged is utterly ridiculous. We know roughly when it’s coming out and roughly what it’s going to cost. People just need to chill and wait for the info. It’ll come eventually.
@Consolegamer123 I don't think I would with game pass going to $180 a year.
@JohnKarnes I would because I already have games on there that I need to finish like rdr2, I used to play on Xbox but I sold it to get ps5
@eddie429 My comment was encompassing of people that may be on the fence of getting a new console in November or upgrading/buying a new gaming PC rig in a few weeks. In the past few days there have been people online that are saying that they will skip buying a new console and just upgrade their computer's GPU and other parts when the new hardware releases. Granted, if this comes to pass it I think it would theoretically have more of an impact on Xbox Series X sales than PS5's sales simply because of the exclusives that will be available on Sony's system.
That said, not everyone will be able to drop $500 - $700 new GPU or a new console because of the current state of the world. The fact that Sony and MS continue to hold out on pricing / preorder info this late into the year is just adding to the frustration of those would have to budget to get what they want. I'm in that boat myself.
