Talking Point: Did the PS5 Showcase Event Deliver?

You know, it was pretty good. I do think that the first showcase was better, but this was great too!

Did anyone get the demon souls launch window ? The gameplay blew me away xD

I went with good. Games wise, it looks ok long term, but not clear what we are getting at launch (not much it seems). But saved by the PS+ Collection and that price point. Game on for next gen - Sony ain'y messing that's for sure.

It was alright, FF16 was the only amazing showcase, nice to see some gameplay though, hopefully for a big surprise like Silent Hill or Bloodborne 2 or something but otherwise it was decent, A GoW teaser was pretty pointless since we all know it's coming and it didn't show anything

My personal opinion.... It was awsome . First look at FF16 with gameplay, Harry Potter finally revealed , Demon's Souls gameplay and Spider-man gameplay . How could you not love this ? Lol

Games looked great, there were a couple of great announcements and the price is reasonable. I'm perfectly happy with it.

Started strong and ended stronger. Everything in the middle I could take or leave, but if I'm already sold on the PS5, so I cant really complain.

Demons Souls and Miles Morales looking every bit as fantastic as I hoped! God of War in 2021 is earlier than expected too! Oh and love the look of FFXVI, can tell it’s the team from XIV and that fills me with a lot of confidence. Price and release was pretty much as expected so happy with that too. Hype!

I thought the high points were great (Harry Potter!), but so much of it was a re-tread of the last event.

God of war 2 teaser was a cherry on top for me. A+

It was OK. Sequels that we knew would come and some decent stuff peppered about that was already announced. Price is a bit rich for my tastes but not awful.

FF 16,initially exited me,then I saw the combat and the design choice and it felt underwhelming,maybe more gameplay footage and story info,will clear things up.

Every thing else was ,very good,and it was priced at,what most of us predicted,so yeah, besides the price and FF16,everything else was prefect.

The games on show weren't overly exciting (Definitely hyped for Demon's Souls but knew about it, FF XVI is nice but FF just hasn't been great in recent years, and GoW was awesome), but I only wanted to know the price so I'm happy with that.

Hoping for more info on the console and its features, but this was still really good!!

It was ok. We got the price and release which is biggest thing! Demon Souls looked great and I’m happy with God of War 2 reveal for 2021. Other than that meh. FF16 looked interesting and console exclusivity is huge, but the gameplay is not what I want from an FF game.

It was fantastic, some great reveals and nice seeing some gameplay. 5/5 for me.

Thought it was very good. Now for pre orders to go live and get 1. Shopto site seems to be overwhelmed just now lol

It was good. Still plenty left in the bag and keeps us wanting more. And the hype and speculation up.

Very good, it was losing a bit of steam but Demon Souls and the God of War tease dragged it back up. FFXVI PS5 exclusive is huge, I like the look of RE8 and Oddworld, not a big Harry Potter fan but that looks great. So many games for 2021 and a great launch price, particularly for digital and a very good show all round

I’m going to say 50/50 the games were great but some games I don’t think really needed to be included? I mean fortnite? It’s obvious that’s coming lol! But they gave us release date and price which were my important wishes! Still nothing on Slient hill🤔 But loved all the game play!

Not really. It was... Fine? Nothing surprising, except maybe FF16.

They still haven't shown the console in action, it's features. The price was what I expected, and here in the UK we have to wait an extra week lol. Oh well.

Much as I despise Potter, that looks very good. Sony pretty much said "yeah you can pay less, but all the good stuff is here" and for me at least it paid off.

It was okay. Getting the system at launch regardless, but not much in there for me.

It was ok. Nothing really wowed me. The thing that interested me the most was the God Of War tease, though I hate teases as reveals. Good to know the price, but I also feel we should really see the UI as well considering it releases in 2 months.

So hyped!!! When can we preorder!?

Harry Potter looked good, I hope it's good.

Miles Morales looked better than I expected.

And God of War 2. Yeah pretty overall.

The $399 price of the all-digital basically made the Xbox Series S completely pointless since it costs $299. Who wants to buy a 4 teraflop machine with a slower 512 gb SSD for a mere $100 less?

I still have no idea what games are actually available at launch. That's a pretty serious failure when we're less than two months out now.

That was a MASSIVELY underwhelming event.
Not a single thing looked interesting.
Final Fantasy, Kid Arachnid and Devil May Cry all have very similar air and ground combat.
Ps5 Price is laughable considering how much weaker it is than the XSeX.
Playstation Plus Collection is better than the Switch Online, but much worse than the XSeX online.

Great overall, but I wanted release date for DeS Remake, unless I missed it. The HP game looks better than I expected, and I'm glad that FFXVI keeps changing the gameplay.

Happy with the price, Miles Morales and demons souls. Everything else just kind of slightly annoyed me, Probably because the lack of info in Launch titles.

Truly nothing groundbreaking in my opinion during the PS5 announcement. Final fantasy 16, but also coming to pc. Bunch of games we already had seen. Are any of them truly groundbreaking? Almost all CGI stuff. One button press and the character does all kind of things for half a minute. Just like playing a movie. No dates for any of the games. We have no idea about the launch lineup.

FFXVI and Hogwarts Legacy were nice surprises and I got a price and date. More than satisfied. Now about the preorder info...

499 isnt cheap exactly but the 100euro difference will definitely be worth it in the long run by buying 2nd hand copies

Disapionted in the footage they showed. Not next gen, but more ps4 capability. Sorry not convinced to order a ps5 at dat one. I also have my doubts on the disk capacity .

Absolutely loved it, and every game shown is something I'd play day one, only two gripes, firstly no ps5 ui was shown and secondly not happy that the UK have to wait longer.

Also I wonder if the PS Plus collection will cost extra money? Or will the ps plus subscription go up in price

Was not expecting FF16, Hogwarts or God Of War! Happy to see RE8 again (although still waiting on news for PSVR support). Spider-Man looks great. The new PS+ library is awesome. And finally! A date and cost (just need AUD now). I’m blown away by the whole event!

It was pretty good to be fair, Demon's Souls looked great. Unfortunately, I'm not really interested in any of the games shown.

I didn't watch the presentation at all but from the comments on Live Chat, i could tell there was NO suitable games for me.

Okay overall. A lot of these games we knew about already. FF and Demon Souls have absolutely zero appeal to me.
RE8, DealthLoop and Spiderman all look really good. I was right about $500 USD for the disc model.

It'll be very interesting to see how MS's $300 USD stragety for their digital console fairs in the long run.

Very sad to not see Uncharted 5.

Yes and no. Still no idea what the launch line up is. Still don't know when pre-ordered open. Still haven't shown the UI, but the price and release date is out there... and Demon's Souls had me throwing my debit card at the screen. Sad there was no Returnal, but otherwise for 40 minutes, that was a lot of games.

Not a bad showcase, glad they finally released the prices and release date. I am hoping to get dates of the games they shown off so we know which are launch games also prices for the peripherals (and a pre-order date).

Meh. “Covid makes it hard to show you what’s unique about our system” -> “here is a bunch of gameplay free trailers”. system comes out in 62 days and we haven’t seen boot to a game. backwards compatibility is a confusing mystery (it’s there but who knows what works, how). upgrade paths are confusing. does Ps+ cost more? Accessories pricing? Bueller?

I really enjoyed it. Saw more of the games we saw in the first reel and some ones wasn’t expecting.

Enjoyed the new FF more than I thought I would. I wasn’t surprised by the price for the disc version and have budgeted accordingly. We can find out more about the UI between now and launch day.

It was clinical and cold with none of the usual PS humour. When can we preorder? Nope, they couldn't even be bothered to tell us that. Really really underwhelmed.

I enjoyed it. The gargoyles in Demon's Souls were a highlight for me.

Some big names, but none of the reveals got my blood pumping. Also, the showcase kind of lost steam near the end.

I was impressed by Harry Potter, Miles Morales and especially Demon's Souls. The latter could be the first Soulsborne game I ever play.

And the next God of War us coming out next year? Along with the new Ratchet & Clank and Horizon Forbidden West?!

The price is a lot more competitive than some feared especially for the digital version. I think most PS fans should be very happy. Obviously there are still some questions yet to be answered and more details to be revealed BUT that showcase was infinitely more impressive than a thing Microsoft has shown up to now.

That was awful. FFXVI looked like a bad cross of FFXIV with Witcher 3 with 5 year old graphics.
Resi VIII looked ok, but it's another old IP along with loads of others (Abe's mates still doing same stuff they did on the psone) also too many remakes. Very depressing.

Nothing groundbreaking for me but enjoyed it nonetheless. I'll need waiting a year as I always do, so there'll be more games available by then.

It'll be interesting to see how many go the digital route. I'll bet going physical so I can trade in, but if the majority go digital that'll effect the amount of physical games in the wild, which might mean a higher cost for second hand. Who knows. We'll see.

Also, was good to spot 2 usb ports on the back this time. Sucks having cables permanently snaking out the front of my PS4.

Works for me!! Would like some more details on bc but otherwise pretty good. Have to say bluepoint look like they have done an amazing job for demon souls. Launching that on pc day one (unless I've picked that up wrong) is a mistake. That game exclusive would make so many pc gamers pull the trigger on a ps5

The only game that got me really excited was Harry Potter. Otherwise presentation was good but not mind blowing. Curious about the PlayStation plus collection. Will those games always be available digitally or is it a timed thing, and will they add new games or just stick with the old?

Harry Potter rpg, GOW tease and FF16 absolutely shocked me. Hellz yizzle! I was not expecting those. The only thing that would have made this absolutely mind blowing would of been a final release date for WiLD.

nothing was really my cup of tea, but that's a personal preference thing.. bluepoint have done an amazing looking job on that demon's souls remake. here's hoping sony ask them to polish up a few more classics from the PS3 era.

if you didn't own a PS4, the PS+ collection for PS5 is massively more attractive than gamepass imo.. that's a lot of quality there. it does seem to be aimed at either people who didn't own a PS4 though, or people who may decide transition from disc to digital - so not having to re-buy at least some titles they may have already. i suspect that it's going to replace the 2 "free" PS+ games a month though.

A lot of the games looked great and we finally have a concrete price and release date. I think it was very good.

I never thought the online games had the proper Final Fantasy vibe, this looks just the same and not much improved from FFXIV considering it's a single player PS5 game....unless it's not, which I fear is what it and also that wizarding world game unfortunately looks like too.

@PuppyToucher this is why you can now "buy" games redeemed thru PS+. Pretty sure ones you haven't purchased won't be accessible on PS5 unless you buy them there or they're part of the "collection". Also maybe free monthly PS4 games won't be part of PS+ outside of the "collection"

Um whose been releasing big new games this Gen and whose been relying on the trio of Forza, Gears and Halo? Horizon and Ghost as well a complete redo of God of War have been big things this Gen as well as risky stuff like Death Stranding and Dreams.

Fun fact during lockdown people didn't give a damn about Gamepass despite it being a clear ideal thing during that time, no it was Animal Crossing and Switch's what were selling out not Xbox One the lowest console selling this Gen.

Looks good but nothing blew me away. I will inevitably get a PS5 at some point down the road. I almost never get consoles at launch, mostly because of the cost and lack of must-play games. But it looks good. Harry Potter game looked really impressive, definitely on my radar. Excited for Demons Souls. But nothing else really wowed me.

I am very disappointed in the 3d person, only cgi games Playstation currently makes. Horizon, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, even Death Stranding all felt very the same to me in a way. All 3d person over the shoulder action stuff with a story. And they do that again.

Also, Sony has a thing for buying exclusivity rights currently. I don’t like that practice one bit. And they are the only ones on the market that do that.

I may be in the minority, but this event sucked away the minute bit of interest I had in the PS5 for the foreseeable near future. FFXVI was the only new reveal and looks very early in development. I’m thinking a 2023 release date based on SE’s history. Everything else was already revealed or is a re-release in some form or another. Console launches used to be a showcase event of jaw dropping new ideas, IPs and concepts. What the heck happened?

Also I remember when the PS4 was praised for its £350 launch price (with a disk drive) and now its £450 and getting praised? I guess that’s devaluation against the dollar but I still can’t imagine spending more than £350-£400 on a console (and diskless isn’t an option).

Guess it’ll be a repeat of my PS4 experience. Wait until a price drop, potential enhanced model and a worthwhile library that actually takes advantage of what the console is capable of.

Spiderman, Horizon Forbidden West will release on PS4 so I wait few yrs for PS5. Plus $70 games, no thanks.

@Friendly I understand that sentiment but there is a lot more gameplay there than you think (except Death Stranding ). I am not big on cutscenes, so I get you, but combat/gameplay is really good in Horizon, GoW, and Ghost. And sometimes a good story can add weight to the game. That said, I prefer something like DeSo or Bloodborne, with minimal story elements.

Mostly boring besides demon soul's gameplay, Ragnarok tease and ff16, though I could imagine everything shown running fine on current gen with a lower resolution and without the not so "game changing" ray tracing. And psplus offering games I could get for change is nice but not competitive enough for gamepass. Where are the big surprises?

There was one highlight of the stream; I recognised the Cross Body Salsa that couple were dancing in the Spiderman MM segment!

Those cross gen announcements put a damper on things for me honestly.

Now I’ve had a bit of time to process the show, I can say the show itself was really good. However the aftermath online is an absolute ***** show. Sony’s messaging is now unclear. “We believe in generations” clearly that’s gone out the window. Launch titles being £70, so if you get the digital version you have to pay those prices.

Sony PlayStation social media cant even say which select retailers you can pre-order with, and to top it off, pre-orders opened at GAME and Smyths toys are 11.30pm on a Wednesday night. It’s a total mess.

I’ve decided to save up a bit more and wait until the spring or summer next year. I can play Myles Morales on my PS4 now. I’ll save up and get the disk version.

Loved it all, Demon souls And spiderman looked amazing, so happy we got game play I thought Demon souls had a really amazing feel and look about it. The god of war reveal was the icing on the cake. thankyou sony

I thought the presentation was solid with some genuinely exciting surprises, but I'm quickly becoming pessimistic with the news that games are more expensive and tent-pole games like Horizon 2 will be held back by being developed on PS4.

Amazing gameplay and ideal price we could realistically hope for.
I like the Sony attitude of not telling everything or over promise but overdeliver.

Not sold on PS5 yet, Spiderman is probably the biggest game for me.

Quite happy to wait for further news and announcements.

It was OK. I wanted only the prices so I could’ve skipped the whole thing.

Harry Potter and PlayStation defined my childhood, this is a dream come true. But now that the initial hype is over and I can think clearly, ffXVI has me a bit worried. Its in early development, so things I might say will probably be subject to change.

The frame rate was pretty bad, It was not just my phone. Again though, early development, people seem to forget that.

I have no idea what people were talking about being generic or bad textures, it looked okay, the models are great as usual. The concept is something I don't think I've ever heard before, which very much excites me. But I guess people label anything high fantasy as generic now, that's their problem.

Now for the big problem, combat. People are comparing it to DMC or Bayonetta, which unfortunately I'll have to agree with. Looks kind of bland and uninspired, but again, early development. We all know how much a project can change in a few years when it's from square. They seemed reluctant to show the UI as well, which also furthers my belief the game will be a ways off.

Now, can we just stop and appreciate how utterly awesome the logo is? Probably my favorite out of all of them. Sorry for the long text

Spider-Man looked great...but not confirmed for launch, so probably going to be a month late. Maybe ready December 12th.

Demon's Souls looks pretty, but not the visual pop of Spiderman so not a strong sell today...and no release date at all. Probably not ready until February.

So for launch we have...PS4 legacy games free with Plus? Yawn.

I am not pre-ordering based off of what was shared today.

Oh, and God of War 2 coming out next year? *****! We know a vague title flash with nothing else means it will be delayed to 2023.

Yeah I thought it looked great! However now after reading all the articles on here it’s looking like I’m going to stick with my PS4 and VR buy Star Wars Squadrons and Miles Morales for that! Get myself an Xbox series S as it’s cheap and get AC and game pass for a year!

I didn't even watch the presentation as i knew it will be majority of rated 18+ games as i really hate with games like that so i will not torturing myself by watching the presentation.
I just only depending on live chat comments to describe what kind of game was aired from the presentation. I posted some question about what kind of game was running so i will get feedback from other users.
After the presentation i got the informations by words from Pushsquare articles and unfortunately NO games caught my interest as i really wish new kids games on PS5 from the presentation.

I didn't even say negative comments during Live Chat.
I joined in LiveChat but not watching the presentation as it was the only the safest way for me to scoop out the information without seeing gritty images or videos.
I asked some question of what kind of game was runing based on the comments i read if i didn't figure it out. Some users helped me by gave me notification about the game was being aired by given an age rating code.
After the presentation, i found NO PS5 games caught my interest from the presentation as it was okay for me because i can always get another information about upcoming PS5 games from another source.

I’m disappointed that there is no clarity on backwards compatibility and other system features. Understandably, this doesn’t make for great showcase content, as of course it’s all about the games and system sellers at the moment. However, given the time from the presentation to pre-orders is about 12 hours, this leaves little opportunity for further clarification from Sony. Will the questions of how backwards compatibility is implemented on the PS5 not affect the choice of launch model for some? For me, lack of backwards compatibility for previous generations is the biggest disappointment about PS5.

I just want to say that its great to see all the positive comments finally..and i still dont get the xbox fanboys posting here..you guys/girls/somewhere inbetweeny,hard done by basement dwelling sunlight dodging monsters are not welcome...go away and leave us alone to bask in the sun...degenerates..

@Sim1 not many, you’re right. However, there are still some games that are still groundbreaking.

Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild and Flight Simulator are those groundbreaking games of recent years that I’m thinking about. New experiences. New technology.

Maybe God of War and Last of Us collection (for storytelling) could be on that list. But then again, Sony is turning it more and more into blockbuster movies.

That’s how I feel about them though.

Sony should fire their marketing team cause this was just stupid. Where is the incentive to buy a digital console when you hiked the prices for games at launch ??? Wait 2 years to have enough adopters and then you can ease everybody in on new prices. I get that all prices are going up, but salaries are still the same especially in the current situation of the world, a lot of people also lost their jobs, price of living increased, game consoles will be a luxury. Luckily it's BC with PS4, most people will revisit they're backlog until they will find some new games on sale or pre-owned.

@Friendly whatever mate, Sony games are regularly up for GOTY awards and this year will of course be no different what with both The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima being massive contenders. They deliver the goods.

Xbox though? Wtf have they got?! Game pass? Yawn. An all you can eat buffet which actually turns out to include rotten items and only one type of cheese. It's a load of crap, it really is. If that's the future of gaming then the type of gaming I prefer, story-driven and focused single player titles, is on it's way out and it won't be for me.

If Sony bore you so much then you know what you can do.

@Col_McCafferty yes, I’ve made up my mind. I won’t be buying PS5 soon, since Horizon comes to PS4 too, my only anticipated exclusive.

Next to that I’ll continue enjoying my switch, and I’ll get a Series S or X for all 3d party stuff and Game Pass when Flight Simulator gets released on the system. And I’ll enjoy the Medium, I’m sure.

Also, how a Flight Simulator game innovative? I remember my friend playing a series called X-Plane a couple of decades ago. MS version has just got fancier graphics, nothing mind-blowing about that. Sure it's impressive but it's not innovative and so what? It's hard to reinvent the wheel each and every time anyway.

@Col_McCafferty Don’t know why but I’ve got the feeling you’re upset because I’ve said that a lot of Sony’s games are big block buster 3d party action games with different skins and different stories. They’re mainly relying on story and cgi—one-button-effects. They feel as if they follow exactly the same architecture / game designs, to me. Like 20 platformers, all different skins but you move from left to right. Also, Death Stranding isn’t a sony game.

Dunno, got bored by them after PS4. I’m back to RPG’s now, with which i got bored with 10-15 years ago. Guess it comes and goes in phases. That’s ok, right?

If you love PS4 games, PS5 is the exact same thing but with higher graphical settings if you have the setup for it. Nothing ‘new’ nothing ‘exciting’.

Haven’t played it yet, but I think Flight Simulator takes simulation games to an extreme different level. It’s not that you’re in a plane. It’s just that it feels completely real. The physics engine looks incredible. And really, having the actual real life world cramped up in a game and unfolding in front of you, that’s insanely spectacular. Technologically mind blowing if you ask me.

But as I said, haven’t played it yet.

Also, you originally brought up Death Stranding mate not me. The Last of Us Part II plays very differently to Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War is certainly not the same as Days Gone. Yes they're each third person but third person isn't a specific genre. Nobody moans about their being too many third person films do they.

A flight simulator is still a flight simulator at the end of the day, just fancier and shinier and more ooh's and aah's. Nothing wrong with that by the way but just wanted to point out your hypocrisy.

Oh and Mario Odyssey innovative? Come on, it's yet another Mario game where he has to rescue a Princess. Careful now, your bias is showing.

And yes, Odyssey is a milestone for Mario. Gameplay wise. And no, it hasn’t got anything to do with story, most of Nintendo’s games don’t have story, they focus almost solely on gameplay.

And if you think Flight Simulator isn’t a milestone, the general public and critics thinks differently. I also could have mentioned Half-Life Alyx if you think Flight Simulator would show me being biased or something. Alyx is just as much a groundbreaking game released this year.

a) Game Pass is AWESOME - fact. It's cheap, it's updated WEEKLY and regularly contains brand new releases (Hotshot Racing for example - available day one, 2 Point Hospital, etc. and not to mention all MS Studio games, Forza, etc. etc. - amazing value)
b) Sony are definitely going for the "cinematic AAA exclusives" to sell its new console - that's a good thing! "Ghosts", "Death", "Last 2", "SPIDEY" for goodness' sake - utterly amazing experiences.. it's what "next gen" gaming is all about. Unforgettable gaming.
c) PS5 launch has been a disaster - terrible comms, taking customers for granted, just expecting them to pre-order, expecting them to search in blogs, sites, etc to get info on pre-orders, not showing UI, not showing value for money, not showing PS Now variant, etc.etc. - it's really poor and I think will damage PS5 a lot
d) I've just pre-ordered a PS5 and all accessories (there goes 700 squid) and I've no doubt in a year or two I'll get XBSX - but I think MS have already won next gen.. more coherent, MUCH better value, just as good specs, and first-party games coming in the next year or so that will in effect be FREE with Game Pass... unless PS stop sitting on their hands (or take their hands away from their ears / eyes whilst shouting "I'm not listening, la la la") they simply can't compete next gen.. Hiking up the prices of games like Demon's Souls to £70/80? Utterly ridic. And this is coming from a 'fan'... :/

FF 16 made me sooo hyped. It's all I needed to confirm I was going with PS5 vs Xbox for this generation (Game Pass being very interesting).

Miles Morales looks amazing. Didn't play the one on PS4, but will play the remastered version on my PS5.

Pre-ordered yesterday before it turned out crazy. By that I mean, like 5 minutes before it went crazy here in Canada.

I wasn’t to tell ya the truth impressed nope 👎🏻 and they pretty much ruined it when they said no backwards compatibility with the PS1,PS2,PS3! Now that’s a waste of money! So a PlayStation next generation console without backwards compatibility! Sony you lost this competition because of your stupidity!!
