It wasn’t on the list of PlayStation 4 games that won’t work on the PlayStation 5, so naturally free-to-play MMO Black Desert Online will play on Sony’s next-gen console. There had been some scepticism after the company effectively confirmed backwards compatibility with Xbox Series S|X, but failed to do the same for the PS5.
That’s since been rectified courtesy of the following statement:
There were concerns for quite some time that PS5 wouldn’t have backwards compatibility with all PS4 software, but those worries have been eradicated, with just ten or so titles failing to function on the new console. More importantly, as long as you use the same PlayStation Network account, all of your progress in Black Desert Online will carry across to Sony’s new system as well.

Oddly enough, I wasn't worried.
Sure is a lot of 'concern' out there when it comes to the PS5 and backwards compatibility.
Jeez.. This game needs it desperately! That game was made with SSD in mind.. They even recommended you a SSD on ps4 for better gameplay experience!..😂
I really hope genshin impact is also BC (with visuals upgrade) with ps5, the game framerate and loading time isn't good on ps4. And cross-save with mobile and pc too.
If one game needed the PS5 it's this. Haven't played it for ages but the framerate and pop-in on a base PS4 is beyond awful. Borderline unplayable. Not that I have any plans to ever play it again.
So,is this game free or not?
This game looks so good but when I got it I just couldn’t get into it. Played it a few times and had no clue what I was supposed to be doing. I already have the PS4 game so I guess...
Woooooo! I'll play this on the Digital Ps5
As if there was any doubt. That's only coming from Xbox fanboys and most of these bigger gaming sites. The amount of false information I see places like IGN, Gamespot, Kinda Funny, etc reporting on is astounding.
@Ridwaano The engine still sucks even on a Pro with an SSD.
I've really tried to like this game but it runs so poorly on the PS4 I can't see how it can any better on the 5.
@sanderson72
It is the IO that was a Bottleneck for the ps4. Even if you put a fast SSD into it.. It could not exceed the reading/writing speed
@Ridwaano True. The Pro at least has a SATA 3 interface so it's quite a bit better than the base PS4's SATA 2.
Either way, Black Desert still plays badly on the PS4.
@sanderson72
But no excuse now on the ps5!
