The PlayStation 4 titles included in the PS Plus Collection will all take advantage of the PlayStation 5 Game Boost feature with improved framerates and load times, and Days Gone appears to be preparing itself for that right now. The Sony Bend-developed title has just received a gigantic 25GB patch on PS4 that is being downloaded by fans across the world as we speak. The underrated zombie shooter could be about to really shine in the next generation.
The patch notes are as follows:
- Added operational stability improvements
- Addressed crashing issues
- Fixed framerate drop and lag issues
- Performance and stability performance
The update brings Days Gone up to version 1.70, and while there's no official confirmation that this patch has been pushed live directly because of the PS5, there has to be some sort of correlation here. The update follows in the footsteps of The Last of Us Remastered, which has just had its load times dramatically reduced. Let's hope the very same thing is about to happen here.

How long will it take to download the update?
I would imagine the sequel being on the PS5 would be amazing, the horde would be like 3x times the size given with the SSD
Does it patch out Deacon? Might go for the platinum if I can play as a blank rectangle instead.
@thehappyaerithch I think you can safely say that about any game, they very rarely live up to the hype generated.
Days Gone started off pretty badly, but over the years after its release, a lot of work has been done to make it a worthwhile addition to the PlayStation line-up.
I was never interested in this game on release, but I will probably give this a try since it's free on PS5.
Edit: Instead of free, I should have said included with the PS+ Collection.
So perhaps much faster loading on PS4 like with other first party games. If it was exclusively gif ps5 then PS4 owners wouldn’t have to download it. Looking forward to hearing the reports as I haven’t played this yet.
@God_of_Nowt where in the name of god do you work? 😂
This is the most underrated game for ps4. I mean... how could I trust those damn reviews? How could I? Im sorry Bend Studios, love you🖤
@thehappyaerithch It was my GotT that year.
Didn't care about it at first, bought it in big sale many months later. Absolutely loved it, even ended getting the platinum trophy.
@huntbearpig You need to be a PS Plus member in order to take advantage of the PS Plus Collection. So, basically, it's not free.
A 25GB patch? That's a sequel.
Imaging buy this game on disc...
@makina I did and I don't see the problem.
@God_of_Nowt I believe you mean 1 Gigabit per second symmetrical. Currently, there is not a single ISP in the world that provides households with Terabit internet.
@Wake13 CPU and GPU dictate that
@Crimson_Ridley
Maybe, but games should be ready and good day 1.
Sadly, this happened a lot this gen ;[
@Wake13 I was just thinking that.
And the many mongols for ghost of tsushima 2
@nessisonett I second that! Might be even better if all the other characters were circles and crosses.
@ShaiHulud Basically just give me Tofu Mode and I’d be happy.
@Revengercm In an ideal world, of course, but then when companies like CDProject decide to postpone a release while they work on getting it ready for all the consoles it'll release on, they get death threats. There's no way anyone can win.
@God_of_Nowt PS download speeds are notoriously slow regardless of your connection speed. My Xbox One X downloads are way faster.
@Veturius @God_of_Nowt haha! I thought we might be having a GB/TB mix up there. Autocorrect - improving download speeds since 2020.
But yeah, I'm on a gig down although I've never actually proved it, I get about 500Mbps on the phone, 200 on the laptop (no ethernet port), and my consoles are in the office which is a bit away from the router so never bothered trying them.
I provide fibre circuits for a living and spend all day checking out 10G/10G circuits run perfectly but don't bother to make sure I'm not getting shafted by Virgin Media residential. Go figure.
@KahnArtizt07 well yes and no to speeds if you use Ethernet I can get around 50mb a second but I have virgin 350mb so it is possible to download things quickly really.
@Crimson_Ridley ****those people. They are the same ones that bombarded Abby's model.
Some gamers makes us look so bad.
I hope the load times are improved. I just recently finished this game (minus the post story stuff) and it acts really dated (slow load times, janky character bugs, etc). The best part of Days Gone is Sam Witwer. If not for him, I probably would have never finished the game.
I swear this game has some of the biggest update file sizes. I think the last update I had to download was 37gbs.
@nessisonett Hahahaha I concur! I ended up really enjoying the game but yeah... Deacon’s character and personality sucked. Angry boring macho douche.
I still have no idea who they were aiming this character towards. There was no attempt to make comments about toxic masculinity or rural America or anything else. They just settled on the most rote and cliched ‘dude bro’ we’ve seen literally a million times in film and tv.
So basically the patch offers nothing much.
Other games which have received patches in last few days:
RE7 , RE3, Resistance, Hatsune Miku Future Tone (which actually added DLC after nearly 5 years) Far Cry 5.
@God_of_Nowt My mrs works for VMB so we're getting the residential broadband on the cheap - upload speeds are dire in comparison to the download of course but it's of no consequence to me.
Gig symmetrical will be absolutely beautiful though, enjoy! If I know VMB though (which I do as I worked there for a couple of years ) they'd absorb a few k of the cost of civils, cable pull etc. if they weren't in the area, and pass excess costs back to yourself to take on - unless you agreed insane rentals I suppose. But this LilaConnect bunch sound good. I'm jealous!
@LTPenguin this happens with loads of games on the Pro. Far Cry 5 is particularly loud.
Ha Nessie has some friends, he must be happy.
😜
Completely disagree about Deek, I liked that he was angry. I mean he's an ex biker living in a post apocalyptic world and he thinks his wife is dead. What exactly is there to be happy about?
And he does change, that's not even up for debate.
Then again there are people out there that think Arthur Morgan is a 'forgettable' character so you know, people suck sometimes.
🙄
@KahnArtizt07 correct. They throttle it deliberately. In real world terms (not mega-bits) when downloading from PSN I get about 7-8Mb per second. But I’m in Australia where the internet is garbage.
@thehappyaerithch
I have to agree with you, i finished it but not much of it was memorable
@Col_McCafferty the issue with Deek is that he is is a very cliched character we’ve seen millions of times. The angry male who can’t process his feelings is soooooo done to death.
I thought overall the writing in this game was above average especially if you persist to the end but Deek is one dimensional and inexplicably aggressive ALL THE TIME.
I think the scene SPOILERS where he is tortured by a former gang member now Ripper leader is one of the best this gen. The way it's shot, the lighting, the pain we see and hear from Deek as his skin is burned, it wouldn't look out of place in The Last of Us.
Then there are the horde battles and of course the brilliantly creepy ending.
I really hope there is a sequel and if there is it will be a day one purchase for me.
25GB for stability and performance fixes...wtf?
@Arnna He has reasons to be angry though, I think you're overthinking it tbh.
That anger is what allows him to survive and not just curl up in a corner and give up. He does change though, don't want to say too much but it all revolves around Lost Lake. Maybe you think it would've been better if he'd been a woman.
🙄
Anyway this patch, interesting that earlier on in the year they reduced the file size to under 40GB but have reversed that. It does have quite a few bugs I'll give you that but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely play it again at some point on PS5.
An additional SSD is definitely on the agenda I think!
@Col_McCafferty I’ve finished the game and ended up enjoying it. No I don’t think he would have been better as woman, but I do think it’s pretty regressive and rote that the writers couldn’t think of a more interesting way to portray a him. He’s a biker in rural America and we’ve seen this archetype so many times it’s dull.
Comparing it to another game set in rural America, Far Cry 5 had its problems but at least tried to portray the characters beyond redneck hick stereotypes and made some commentary on the modern world and politics too.
Days Gone really half-heartedly made some comments about politics and rural America in the first few hours and then dispensed with all that almost immediately to focus on nothing but ‘the bonds we have with people’ stuff and nothing more.
Not all games need to be social statements but this game really leant itself to this and could have been so much deeper. I’d like to see a AAA developer have the balls to go all-in on sociopolitical themes instead of lazily pandering to the widest audience possible all the time.
@Arnna It's a game about Zombies, sorry, Freakers taking over the world. No need for politics.
He does change though, maybe this change was too subtle for you but he's not the same person at the end of the game as he was at the beginning.
@God_of_Nowt for you then. i get the max speeds possible. of course if you play while downloading, the ps4 will put the dl in background to alleviate HDD stress
@huntbearpig wait what, how's it free on ps5?
@Col_McCafferty Totally agree that there was a lot of depth to the characters and I loved the relationship between Deacon and Boozer! Sure the characters were a bit rough around the edges but intentionally so, they’re bikers and survivors in a post-apocalyptic world. I think what sells the characters and makes them believable (even when they don’t have much to say) is the fantastic acting from a great cast of actors.
Great game, but the story really dragged for me at the end. So I won’t play it on the PS5
Recommend others who haven’t tried it to give it a shot, feel it’s underrated IMHO
@Makina the patch size is ridiculous 🙄🙄
@Sladey69 I misspoke. I meant to say included with PS+ Collection.
I currently own a PS4 Slim, so I'm really looking forward to going back and playing my PS4 games on a PS5 in 4K.
@nessisonett I wasn't aware of Tofu mode but having looked it up I definitely want it.
started this on my ps4 pro but sounds like a jet engine - will we be able to move our save over to ps5?
@frabbit what is so hard to believe. In Romania I have gigabit speed also and it's only 12$ a month roughly, unlimited data also . But the problem is that the PS4 has capped speeds so you will never download at those speeds, even if you are wired.
Edit: Ok he fixed it ) 1Tb that was the shock in question.
The perfect gaming equivalent of a b-movie. So much jank; getting 4 radio calls from a settlement you've just left; the way he falls, oh, the way he falls is glorious; so many NPC barks that don't make sense in the context of the moment. It's kinda great, but I was definitely mostly laughing at it, rather than with it.
@Makina Whether you bought it on disc or digitally, it's still installed on and run from the HDD, and you'd still have to download the patch, so...?
My personal favourite game of the generation, and coincidentally was just about to start playing it again. Will have to leave this downloading and installing, and wait until tomorrow now.
I want a days gone 2 with a brand new main character.
This game gets better as you progress. The first 2 hours is boring as hell. I bought this game last year, played it for a few hours, and never touched until last week. Now I think I've put more than 40 hours in it and I'm enjoying a lot.
This game just got better and better for me. The first few hours were terrifying when caught out at night but by the end you feel really powerful. I really loved this game and even platinumed it which does not happen often.
Considering other PS4 games that have recently gotten patches for, what seems to be, solely PS5 purposes, do all PS4 games need a patch to work on the PS5? I don't plan on getting rid of my PS4 anytime soon, but I have games that are kind of obscure and I doubt anyone is going to bother creating a compatibility patch for them. When Sony said '99% of games are compatible," I was hoping I could pop in a disc or download a PS4 game and start playing.
Pre patch 1.61 PS4 Pro 38.71GB.
Post patch 24.9gb update 1.70 PS4 pro 38.64GB.
So the size decreased.
Downloaded it.
Took 5 hours to download it.
@Kaisgrady exactly one of the best games of last year. Gotta the platinum also. Once u upgrade those weapons the game just becomes a blast. Looking forward for another run through on ps5.
Omg love this game! I shall download this on my shiny new ps5 disc edition when I get one lol , I don't like where gaming is going digital gaming meh I prefer the disc thanks
P.s if bend studios releases dlc you know in Pinnacles, South east area of the map. Ooh I don't know maybe a 6th camp could be in there with a new enemy???? Just putting that out there.
Thank you for the perfect game but I'm still wanting more! Boozer rules!
As soon as I saw this article I turned off my xbox and started up playstation I love this game so much and any update is worth it for me. Even if I don't plan on getting nextgen right away. Can't afford it unfortunately but it's all good. My time will come.
@LTPenguin sounds like your ps4 could do with a clean. Mine did then same and after a full clean is now silent.
Deacon taking out all the trolls for PS5 launch haha
@Mad001
Nah I prefer they focus on Days Gone 2.
I think sooner than people think.
@JJ2 omg that would be epic!
@Lee71 oh look, some jerkoff trotting out the usual conservative buzzwords. When you have something to add to the conversation try again. I feel nothing but pity for narrow minded puritans like you. It’s more than you deserve.
News flash - the world contains people who don’t fit into your myopic white/cis bubble. I’ll grab some Kleenex for you.
It took a mere mention of sociopolitical issues to trigger you. The general tone of your comment suggests you get your news from Facebook and you have real issues stringing a coherent sentence together. You laughable twit.
Folks, a good example of the type of person who makes death threats towards people on Twitter because of ‘the gay agenda’ or whatever you’ve parroted from the mouth of Alex Jones this week.
Other than a few questionable game design choices, this was a very enjoyable game for me (I did buy it quite late on so didn't have to experience the mess it apparently launched in). I wish I could go back into it with a blank canvas again but happy they are making it more stable as the PS4 did struggle with it in some areas. Very much looking forward to the sequel
25BG ? My patch is 30.27 GB...
@thehappyaerithch yet you overhyped cyberpunk
@Sammerine the first 2 hours boring?😝
This game is going to go down as a cult classic. it's better than some people think it is, while also not being as good as other people think it is lol. i really like it, but for weird reasons like the mechanic where you have to remember to keep your bike gassed up, and you have to repair it from time to time. for some reason i find those mechanics very compelling.
@Crimson_Ridley Maybe I didn't get the game right away...I thought I did. But the game was fun from the jump, then it slowly became an absolute blast. Its definitely top 5 favorites
I dunno about overhyped, but this game was easily one of the best £12 I've spent on a game. Absolutely loved it from start to finish.
So after skipping the initial release of days gone due to the overwhelming negativity I saw online about it. I decided to give it a shot as it was part of the PS now collection. I downloaded the game to my PS4 pro and I've been delightfully surprised at how awesome this game really is. I went into it with ZERO expectations and having that mindset has allowed me to fully enjoy the game for what it is worth. It's NOT the perfect apocalyptic zombie game but it has its own flair that it does REALLY well, not to mention it looks absolutely gorgeous on my 43inch 4K TV running on the PS4 pro. I'm over 1/3 of the way through the game & am impressed with how much depth this game has. If you go into open minded you will enjoy this beautiful game. Happy gaming ✌️
@GamesVanDerBeek 💯 percent agreed, I've been pleasantly surprised with this ge! I went into it with ZERO expectations & it's so much BETTER than I thought it would be. Not to mention it's absolutely gorgeous running on the PS4 pro! I skipped it's initial release but as soon as it was added to PlayStation now I downloaded it & have been enjoying the hell out of it lol it's got way more depth than I thought it would. I think more people would enjoy it if they left they'd expectations at the door & just played it ✌️
@Lee71 if by ‘we’ you are referring to the minority of trollish and abusive people like you who can’t respond to a message without pathetic alt-right rhetoric, then yeah, have fun being sad and alone.
@cali_kush70 I am infamously a run and gunner. Its part of the reason I love the Far Cry games so much. But there is something incredibly satisfying about plotting out a course of action a la Kevin McCallister and eradicating a horde.
This is just annoying. I'm on PS4 and can do without having to download a 25GB update I didn't need. The game worked fine for me before. Surely there's a way they can push this only to PS5 users!? Hopefully this doesn't happen with too many other games, pointlessly eating up my hard drive space!
@Arnna Agreed, he is totally one dimensional. Personally, I didn't feel that it hurt the game, I didn't really ever expect any more from him, and even as he heads towards some sort of redemption, he never really evolves as a character. But, that said, I did actually quite like him.
