Alongside its release date announcement, Guilty Gear Strive got a new character reveal trailer during its latest developer livestream. Giovanna is an entirely new fighter who commands some kind of spirit wolf... thing to both attack and defend. An undeniably cool design.
Giovanna's trailer also confirms that Guilty Gear Strive will have 15 playable characters at launch (we've seen 13 of them so far). An additional five characters will arrive through the game's season pass. However, we don't yet know if more season passes are planned for later down the line.
What do you think of Giovanna? Kick us to bits in the comments section below.

If this is anything like Arc's previous games I expect the starting roster to be very good and varied. However, the season pass characters take it a little too far in their previous games. They could definitely add a few more at launch. It's something I've learned to live with in Arc games lately.
Got some KOF vibes in that gameplay. And even favoring Vanessa somewhat in looks. I dig it. I'll definitely try her out. Read her bio, she's a bodyguard for the President of The United States lol.
In 2021 on the PS5 you get fifteen characters at launch FIFTEEN!!!!!......(sigh) What happened to this genre?
@Keyblade-Dan Rise in cost happened for one thing. Plus ASW characters tend to be on the expensive side too. Also they don't get huge budgets for these games.
The game looks wonderful.
I'll wait for the Guilty Gear Strive2TheSkyz XX edition in 2021 with 25 playable characters.
I think I'll wait for GG Strive 2 XxX hardcore plus
@-Sigma- And that president might be chipp zanuiff.
She'll never get that shirt fully buttoned.
She seems cool, i like her fighting style, it seems a bit more down to earth, did i see chun li's lightning legs in there!?
Man this is a stunningly beautiful looking game!!
Ive said it a thousand times but i wish capcom would get their **** together and start taking notes.
Watching it in slow motion on YT you really appreciate the animation and character design.
the 60fps animation during gameplay is stellar... but the opening and special cinematics, when the perspective changes, is still running at 30fps and looks jarring in comparison. always hoped they would iron this out but perhaps it is an engine limitation from last gen. the next ps5 exclusive fighting game from arcsys should hopefully take the visuals to the next level once and for all and accomplish true seamless transitions.
but yea, outside of this, i have lost enthusiasm for fighting games unless i try them out years later with the complete editions. the price point and lack of content at entry is a joke these days with the entire genre.
15 seems a little meager for a starting roster ngl. It's not Street Fighter V bad but I'm a little concerned.
I’m surprised this franchise hasn’t died yet with so many re releases and confusing names of the same game but with only 5 new characters from time to time and then going back to 15 characters lol, all fighting games need to learn from SSBU which has 74 characters in the base game from the start not this 15 characters nonsense at full price this is and old franchise not a new fighting game
Game looks gorgeous but as with every fighting game I will wait till the complete edition is out a year or so from now.
Again ill wait for a complete package 15 characters is way too little.
@GKO900 Hey now, this franchise is one-of-a-kind! And let's not get Super Smash Bros Ultimate mixed-up with real fighting games.
First of all, no other fighting game in history has come close to the amount of characters in SSBU, so it should be the exception, not the rule. Second, all of those characters are just copy-pasted from previous SSB games with the exact same moves and no new mechanics. Next, all of those characters look like garbage up close...compare that to the detail in Guilty Gear Strive. The difference is insane! Lastly, this game was impacted by the quarantine, so I'm sure the devs would've liked to include more characters (and they're not alone...look at MK11's newest character pack having 3 characters instead of 6, Street Fighter V's crazy drawn-out release schedule for its next character season, and Tekken 7 and Soul Calibur 6 rolling out characters at a snail's pace too).
I don't blame anyone for skipping this game initially, given the roster and price point. Personally, I definitely wish there were more characters, or if they released it for $30. But this series has an incredible legacy, and I'll take this over a SSB game with 1000+ characters (still waiting for them to add Boo or Toad, dang it!!!), and that's why someone like me would foolishly drop $85 on Guilty Gear Strive at launch, lol. I can't wait!!!
